Chapter 458 Rebirth From the Ashes: Hydra
The dark land was pitch black, and the deepest night enveloped this devastated land. Only the sporadic artillery fire that flashed across the sky occasionally lit up the ravine-filled no-man's land.
The barbed wire was cut in the explosion light passing overhead, and the soldier in the coat passed through it. There were more fully armed soldiers around him. Tens of millions of Krieg soldiers passed through the battlefield silently, crawling or squatting forward.
Everyone's belts, water bottles and grenades were tied tightly to avoid any noisy sounds. Millions of soldiers didn't care about the arcs and rays that kept passing through the clouds above their heads, and approached the limit of the defense line with amazing discipline.
The Krieg warriors stopped and waited like statues in the dark battlefield gullies, craters and barbed wire. Among them, Ragnar lowered his body and moved to the front line. Behind him, the wild wolf warriors among the Krieg people were also silent. Although they were wearing power armor, they made no noise at all.
The wolf leader squatted behind the charred hillside, his eyes looking forward. Not far in front of him was the towering wall of Vlasov Fortress. The towering high wall stood there, illuminated by the explosion fire from the east behind him.
Olaf also came up from behind. The rune priest squatted beside his brother, looked at each other and took out a large silver skull pocket watch. He looked at the pointer on it and raised three fingers. When his last finger fell, a huge explosion occurred at the wall in front.
A ball of fire instantly rose under the city wall. The raging fire instantly shattered the main body of the city wall. The tall wall turned into millions of rubbles and collapsed in all directions. The flames of the explosion instantly illuminated all the uninhabited areas around, and also completely lit up the trench positions in front of the city wall. The rebels in the trenches raised their heads and looked at the huge fireball rising behind them.
The fire illuminated the entire sky, and also illuminated Ragnar who stood up from behind the hill. The wolf pack leader pulled out the power axe behind him and pointed it forward, "For the Allfather! Charge!"
With Ragnar's howl, he was the first to jump out of the hill and ran towards the gap in the city wall. Behind him, groups of Krieg warriors rushed out from the hillside with whistles. They appeared all over the mountains with rifles with bayonets hanging below, like a swarm of Tyranids.
The wild wolves rushed in, howling in the night that shook the earth. The defenders on the positions in front of the entire city wall heard the roar, and they quickly climbed up the trenches, pointed their guns at the densely packed imperial army in the firelight in front of them and fired.
The twin rapid-fire cannon turned the muzzle to the front, but just before firing, Ragnar rushed up and knocked the rapid-fire cannon to the ground with a fierce lean. He roared and swung his battle axe to smash several rebels, then strode forward. Behind him, the huge Krieg Death Army swarmed in.
The Krieg people rushed into the position, and the rebels who had no time to organize any counterattacks after their forces were withdrawn rushed into the trenches, wielding bayonets and engineer shovels at very close range, and behind them, the angry wolves rushed to the chain saw to inflict slaughter at very close range.
The Space Marines flattened all the defensive positions, and all the heavy weapons were destroyed before they opened fire. Under the huge fireball rising in front, the entire position was covered with blood.
Olaf strode forward, wielding psychic lightning with both hands and striking fiercely. The whistling arc instantly blew up a Leman Russ in front of Ragnar, and the tank's turret was blown away and turned into a huge fireball.
Ragnar, the young wolf lord, howled and rushed through the flames on the side of the tank. He raised his power axe and chopped the last position. The road he passed was full of broken corpses, and he also stepped on those corpses and rushed to the gap in the city wall.
Behind Ragnar, Olaf led the wolf warriors to follow closely. Groups of wild wolves howled and rushed through the gap, and the roaring chain saw axes splashed blood all around. Under him, the Krieg warriors holding guns also stepped on the blood-stained rubble and rushed into the gap, pouring down the slope.
The warriors who broke into the city wall immediately deployed, the wolf warriors holding chainsaws and bolters spread out in all directions, and the Krieg warriors holding guns in the middle also pointed their guns in all directions, quickly establishing a position behind the gap, but what was waiting for them was not a group of enemies attacking.
Ragnar held a battle axe and looked around the towering walls. They were in a surrounding wall, and behind the wall was another wall. Only the rebels who escaped from the gap in front of them rushed towards the slope of the narrow passage between the walls in the distance.
"Something is wrong." Olaf said so. As soon as he finished speaking, a whole group of Space Marines wearing withered blue armor suddenly appeared behind the slope in front of him. They suddenly climbed onto the platform from the back and pointed their bolters in their hands.
Olaf waved his arms and shouted to the soldiers around him, "Everyone, disperse! This is a trap!"
But Olaf's shout was still too late. The ambushers pulled the trigger, and the whistling bombs instantly tore apart the rebels rushing there, and then they all hit them all at once, killing several wolf and Krieg warriors in an instant, and the rest of them quickly scattered around.
The wolf warriors leaned against the high walls on both sides, and a large group of enemies instantly flipped over from the high walls above their heads. The blue-armored enemies fired their grenade guns downwards, and the bombs falling from the sky killed groups of warriors again.
Olav leaned against the corner of the wall. He looked up and shot a bolt of lightning upwards, but the lightning did not hit the enemy at all due to the angle, but slid over the wall. The surrounding soldiers who fired upwards also did not hit the high enemies. On the contrary, the enemy could ruthlessly harvest the empire's soldiers through crossfire.
The bombs fell like raindrops, and the soldiers kept falling down. Ragnar looked at the fallen brothers and glared at the front. He picked up the battle axe and strode towards the slope in front. Following him was a group of soldiers. The wolf warriors waved their battle axes and raised their bolt guns to sprint forward and fire.
The bombs hit the slope in front, and the enemy immediately counterattacked. The artillery fire came like raindrops. The soldiers who charged forward kept falling down, the power armor shattered and exploded, and blood flew in the rain of bullets, but they still strode forward, following Ragnar who was leading and howling.
"You will pay the price! Allfather! Hear our roar!" Ragnar rushed past the fallen warriors and ran towards the slope ahead, but suddenly an enemy with a plasma cannon appeared from the slope and pulled the trigger at Ragnar.
Plasma roared and instantly bloomed on the shield in front of Ragnar. Olaf rushed up behind the shining psionic shield. He summoned the shield to block Ragnar, and quickly summoned more shields from all angles with one hand. Fierce artillery fire bombarded the shield, and flames continued to explode.
"Ragnar! We must retreat immediately!" Olaf yelled, but Ragnar held his battle axe and looked at the slope in front of him. He took a step forward, "No! We can rush over, in the name of Russ! Wolves never retreat!"
"You idiot! Put away your pride and look around. Soldiers are dying. Do you want everyone to die for your glory?!" Olaf scolded harshly. Ragnar stopped and looked around at the warriors who were leaning against the shield behind them. They were suppressed behind the shield, and many imperial warriors fell around them.
Ragnar roared angrily at the slope ahead, then swung his battle axe back and yelled at everyone, "Retreat! Get out of this killing field!"
"Lord Astarte, you retreat, we stay behind to cover your back." The Krieg officer next to Ragnar raised his head and said, Ragnar looked down at the short mortal and frowned, "No, I won't let you take bullets for me."
"You are more valuable to the Emperor, we are the Emperor's currency." After saying this, the Krieg officer raised his saber and waved it at the Krieg people behind him, and then took the lead to rush out of the shield. Ragnar stared at the Krieg warriors rushing forward.
They rushed out from behind the shield, toward the slope ahead, using their bodies to block the explosive bombs fired from the front, and if one couldn't block it, another one came. The high walls of flesh and blood that fell one after another blocked the wolves.
Ragnar saw the officer being crushed to pieces. Before he died, he raised his saber high and looked at the sky, looking at the constellation of Terra. "Hope, I have redeemed my sins."
"Ragnar! Don't let them die in vain! Go!" Olaf grabbed Ragnar and pushed him back. The latter took a few steps back and looked at the remaining wolf warriors around him with the axe ring, swinging their axes. "Go!"
Olaf looked at his retreating brothers, then glanced back at the slope where the guns and cannons were roaring. He saw the giant appearing in the firelight. He stood there, wearing a dry blue scale power armor, with a helmet with a nine-headed snake under his armpit. He stood there and whispered, "Tell him I'm waiting for him."
Before he finished speaking, the giant turned and disappeared. He disappeared behind the flash of the wall of guns and cannons. Olaf frowned and stared at the gradually disappearing Hydra logo. After a moment of silence, he turned and ran towards the gap behind him.
