Chapter 10 Pumpkin Farm
"Why go to the pumpkin farm at this time?" Herag wondered.
The autumn harvest is over now. There is nothing on the pumpkin farm. No one will go there to cause trouble, and naturally there is no value in garrisoning.
He saw Emil's embarrassed expression and suddenly understood: "Okay, I'll go with you, but have you really thought it through?"
He had seen that day that Emil and Melissa really liked each other.
Emil went to the pumpkin farm this time, probably to hide for a while until Melissa got married.
He patted Herag's head: "Children should not ask too much about adult matters!"
Herag could see that Emil was in a hurry, so he packed up and went out with him.
At the gate of the castle, two horses were ready, with large and small packages hanging on the horses, which were all supplies for winter.
Herag turned his head and looked at Emil, and found that he was a little listless, probably because he hadn't slept all night.
"Emile!" Melissa's voice came from a distance, and Herag looked back and saw a beautiful figure running over.
"Let's go!" Emil hardened his heart and immediately mounted his horse and ran.
Herag saw him running away, and turned back to see Melissa running over. He didn't want to get involved in the affairs of the nobles, so he mounted his horse and rushed out.
When he rode to the other side of the river, he turned back to see Melissa kneeling at the gate of the castle, as if she was crying.
The autumn forest has changed its appearance, the mountains are red, the forests are dyed, the mountain road is covered with fallen leaves, and the horse's hooves make a rustling sound when they step on it.
Emil was silent all the way because he was worried, and Herag didn't care about him, just took it as an outing.
Although he is young, he has lived two lives and has much more experience in this area than Emil. Everything needs time to settle.
There is no mission on this trip, so there is no hurry to travel.
On the way, they passed the cave, and Herag and Emil both stayed there for a while.
Emil poured two glasses of wine on the ground, performed a knight's salute, and left silently.
Seven days later, the two arrived at the pumpkin farm.
The Pumpkin Farm is located at the foot of the Emerald Mountains. The two walked down the mountain road and passed through the forest. Suddenly, they saw a wide plain.
There are farmlands of different sizes on the plain. On weekdays, crops such as wheat and pumpkins are planted.
Since the autumn harvest has passed, most of the farmlands are bare.
There is a large yard in the middle of the pumpkin farm. The wall of the yard is made of heavy stones, which is like a defensive fortification.
"This is to prevent wild beasts and occasional enemy attacks." Emil explained.
The gate of the farm is also a heavy iron gate. Emil walked to the door and knocked gently.
After a while, footsteps were faintly heard from inside, and a hoarse old man asked, "Who is it?"
"Captain of the castle guard, Emil, come to garrison." Emil replied.
"Who?" The old man inside didn't seem to hear clearly.
Emil had no choice but to raise his voice and say it again.
This time the old man seemed to hear clearly, and there was a metallic sound of a key inserted into the iron lock behind the door.
Creak...
The door slowly opened, and there was a harsh friction sound. Behind the door was an old man wearing a bloated cotton coat.
The skin on the old man's face was as dry as tree bark, and his eyes were cloudy and I didn't know if he could see clearly.
"Are you Massimo? I'm Emil, this is a token." Emil took out his knight captain badge and handed it over.
Massimo took the badge without even looking at it, but touched it with his hand, and then returned it to Emil, saying, "Come in."
"He is the only garrisoner on the farm, and he has been here for forty years." Emil introduced.
"Forty years..." Herag looked at the staggering old man and was a little surprised.
"Remember, don't leave the room at night, no matter what sound you hear, don't come out. There are evil spirits in the mountains. In previous winters, guards came here to guard, but they disappeared the next morning. You have to be careful." Massimo said as he walked in front.
"Evil spirits? Do such things really exist?" Herag asked.
Massimo did not respond, and ignored Herag.
Emil said, "In the past, guards were indeed sent here to guard in winter, but they all disappeared without exception. Later, no guards were sent here in winter."
"Then why are we still here?" Herag looked like he was fooled by you.
Emile laughed and said, "Haha, the evil spirit is just a rumor. There are many wild beasts foraging in the mountains in winter. It is indeed risky to go out at night, but are you and I afraid of wild beasts?"
Herag thought about it and it was true. Generally, wild beasts come here as snacks. But what I am afraid of is that there is something weird here, and I can't look at it with the concept of my previous life.
There are more than a dozen houses in the farm, some big and some small. The big houses are basically warehouses, used to store food or houses.
The smaller houses are generally residential. Massimo lives in the small house at the northernmost end of the farm, and Emil and Herag live in a three-story house in the middle of the farm.
The house is messy. The two of them simply cleaned it up and barely had some life atmosphere.
There is also a cellar in this house. Emil opened the wooden board covering the cellar, hung an oil lamp down, and walked down after finding that the oil lamp was not extinguished.
There were bags of flour and several large wooden barrels in the cellar.
Emile was delighted and picked up a barrel and smelled it: "This is all good wine!"
The two of them carried a barrel out, found two cups, and poured bright red wine from the barrel. The rich aroma of wine immediately filled the air.
"Cheers!" Emil laughed.
"Cheers!"
After a long journey, both of them were a little tired, so it was just right to drink some wine.
It is difficult for a knight's physique to be intoxicated by alcohol. There was no one else here, so Herag boldly asked: "You ran here to hide, will you really not regret it in the future?"
Emile smiled bitterly: "I regret it now, but there are more important things than my personal feelings."
"The Baron's marriage is to preserve the entire territory. If I affect this marriage for myself, it will implicate the territory and the Baron." He continued.
Herag was a little confused: "Preserve the entire territory? The people of Behad don't have this ability."
Behad himself is so poor, how could he pose a threat to the entire Dur Valley.
Emil looked at Herag and said, "Do you know why the Baron has been able to control Dur Valley for so long? Is it because of the many guards? No, because the Baron is a great knight, and there are not many great knights in the entire Norton Kingdom."
"The top combat power like the Great Knight is a deterrent, so no one dares to invade on a large scale, because the Great Knight alone can kill your whole family."
"Could it be that the Baron..." Herag suddenly had a guess in his mind. If Baron Buck is not going to die soon, then Dur Valley will be a big piece of fat meat that everyone can take a look at.
