Red Soviet Union

Chapter 7 Kozhidub

The warm air from the Pacific Ocean blows to the Primorsky Krai, which has a temperate marine climate. Apart from being a little humid, it is very suitable for human habitation. There are dense forests everywhere, and the air you breathe is so fresh. There is no severe cold like in the vast land of the Soviet Union, only the same tension as in the Cold War.

As the Far East of the Soviet Union, it is across the Sea of Japan, with Hokkaido of Japan across the way and Honshu of Japan to the southeast. During the Cold War, this was undoubtedly the front line, and conflicts could occur at any time, turning the Cold War into a hot war.

In order to deal with the containment of NATO led by the United States, the Soviet Union developed a huge military force. The southern part of the Primorsky Krai is Vladivostok, the most important port city in the Soviet Far East. It is an excellent port where the main force of the Soviet Far East Navy, the Pacific Fleet, is stationed.

The Sokolovka base in the northern town of Chuguyevka is home to the 513th Regiment of the Soviet Air Defense Force, which is equipped with the latest Soviet MiG-25 interceptors. Once a war breaks out, these interceptors will be deployed immediately to fight. Now, intercepting the American EP-3 electronic reconnaissance aircraft is a routine task for the Sokolovka base.

However, this mission was completed in a very crazy way! In the office on one side of the base control tower, the base commander Kozhedub-Douglayev looked at the American EP-3 electronic reconnaissance plane that had made an emergency landing in the bushes far away from the base runway, and then at the two MiG-25 aircraft that had just landed, with impatience in his eyes.

Kozhedub, the Soviet Union's ace pilot, joined the battle in March 1943 and Germany was defeated and surrendered in May 1945. During this period, he participated in 120 air battles and shot down 62 enemy planes, making him the Soviet Union's top ace.

Unfortunately, this person is not the base commander Kozhedub, they just have the same name.

The base commander, Kozhedub, is 40 years old this year. During World War II, he was just a little kid. He graduated from the aviation school at the age of 20 and has been at this base since he first flew a MiG-15 fighter. Five years ago, he was promoted to commander of the base, and he has stayed here ever since.

Arrogant, arrogant, somewhat violent, and self-righteous, when someone hears his name and immediately thinks of him as the ace air combat hero, he will inevitably acquiesce and enjoy the admiring gaze. Perhaps this is a quality that all top leaders of this era possess, but he is still very caring towards his subordinates, especially those who like to flatter him.

The last time he went to Moscow, he had been given special care by the higher-ups. As long as nothing serious happened, he would be promoted to Moscow after a few months when there would be a vacancy in the Moscow National Air Defense Command. But now, he was intercepted one by one and caused a big mess!

It was just an interception of an American electronic reconnaissance aircraft! Generally speaking, if our own aircraft went over, locked the radar, and flew with it, the Americans would retreat and leave. During the Korean War, Kozhedub flew a MiG-15 fighter and intercepted American aircraft many times. Although it was thrilling, there was never an accidental discharge of the gun.

It was nothing like what was happening now. There was a collision with an American plane! Moreover, the American plane made an emergency landing at their base!

Kozhedub certainly would not hide such a major event. When he received the report from the control tower, he immediately reported it to his superiors. Then he saw the American plane that made an emergency landing in the control tower. Now, a large number of electronic experts are on their way to the Sokolovka base, and the Sokolovka base will become like a powder keg, which will burn violently at any time.

The Americans would certainly not be willing to see this electronic reconnaissance plane make an emergency landing here. They would definitely accuse the Soviet fighter of a malicious collision! There might even be a large-scale exchange of fire!

"Report." Just then, a voice came from outside.

"Come in." Kozhidub shouted, his eyes looking at the door. Two pilots who had just got off the plane and had not yet taken off their flight suits walked in, holding flight helmets.

"What happened this time?" asked Kozhedub.

"Report, during the interception, the American pilot deliberately moved closer to our fighter plane, which led to the collision." Without waiting for Andrei to speak, Belenko spoke.

After all, in this interception operation, Belenko was the lead plane, and he was also the acting commander of the aviation brigade.

Andrei was somewhat surprised by Belenko's answer. This guy was quite smart.

It turned out that the Americans took the initiative to do this! Kozhidub already had a plan in mind, and this report must be written in this way! It was all the result of the Americans' deliberate instigation! If a serious conflict really broke out because of this, it would have nothing to do with him!

"Report, an American reconnaissance plane has landed here. The Americans may take some action, so we must be prepared." Andre said, "They may send a large fleet of planes to put pressure on us."

"The superior has already issued instructions. The entire base is to enter level one combat readiness," said Kozhidub.

"Yes, then we will enter level one combat readiness immediately," said Andre.

"Andrei, your plane has been hit and had a stall and spin before, so it must be overhauled. Belenko, your plane's engine is about to be overhauled, and it's time to replace it." Kozhedub said, "You don't have to participate in this first-level combat readiness."

Kozhedub was very worried about Andrei. This time with level one combat readiness, it was even easier for an accidental firing to occur, so it would be better not to let Andrei participate.

Andrei wanted to ask for a fight, but Belenko patted him on the shoulder and took him out.

"Damn it, my plane is fine, it just needs some welding. What's wrong with you, Commander?" Andre complained.

"Andrei, don't you know the commander's character?" Belenko said, "Think about how to write your flight report. But it's really fun for you to do this today."
