Chapter 41 Suspected of Treason

"Because you have been exposed!" Shelov said, "Don't think that our KGB has only intervened now. We found out that there was something wrong with Annie half a year ago! Annie came to the Far East to incite you and Belenko to defect! The day before yesterday, on August 5, Annie gave you a note and asked you to meet her at the Red Flag Street Hotel. After the meeting, she should have told you that the situation in the United States had changed and that the action should be suspended, and asked you to notify Belenko. Unfortunately, when you came back, Belenko was already on his way to defect. In order to prevent Belenko's defection from affecting you, you quickly flew a plane and shot down Belenko to silence him!"

Andre was speechless that this kind of reasoning could actually be applied. Are all these KGB personnel guys with wild imaginations?

"Where's the note?"

"It's in your pocket. Our people have already found it." Shelov took out the note and showed it to Andrei. He continued, "In fact, you had planned it a long time ago. Last time, you flew over Hokkaido. Unfortunately, there were other MiG-25 fighters following you. If you surrendered to the enemy, you would be shot down by the fighters behind you. That's why you didn't act."

"What kind of bullshit logic is this! You, the KGB, do like to frame people so much? Do you want to make merit and achieve your promotion through this method? The night before last, I didn't even go to see Anne!" Andrei finally couldn't hold it in anymore. He discovered how hateful that woman named Anne was. Before she died, she plotted against him once. That note must have been slipped into his mouth by Anne when he was having dinner with Ekaterina. Damn it!

"Where did you spend the night before yesterday? You have been discharged from the hospital, but you did not return to the army," asked Shelov.

"In..." How should I say, where did I spend the night in Ekaterina? As an unmarried man, it seems not right to spend the night in a woman's house, right?

Thinking of this, Andrei stopped talking. This expression of his was considered by Shelov on the opposite side as a sign of having something to hide.

"Captain Andrei, your treason needs to be further investigated in Moscow. Now, please follow us!" Shelov said, motioning to the person next to him.

The two strong men, as fierce as wolves and tigers, came up and held Andre down, trying to handcuff him.

Damn it! Once I go to Moscow, in the secret prison of the KGB, it will be impossible for me to not confess even if I am tortured!

"I have not committed treason. Yesterday, I shot down and damaged an American F-4 fighter jet! I personally shot down the defecting Belenko. Some time ago, I also crashed into an American EP-3, which allowed us to obtain American electronic secrets. I am innocent!" The two KGB agents on both sides obviously often did this kind of thing. They held Andrei down tightly and wanted to put handcuffs on him.

"Bang." At this moment, the door outside was pushed open. Colonel Ivanov, the commander of the 513th Regiment, stood at the door with cold eyes, looking at the people inside.

"What are you doing?" asked Colonel Ivanov.

"Andrei is suspected of treason. We need to take him back to Moscow for a detailed investigation. Anyone who hinders us will be guilty of treason." Major Shelov said. Although his military rank is lower, the KGB is well-known and most people dare not offend it.

Behind Ivanov followed Kozhedub. It was obvious that Kozhedub, this old fox, did not want to cause trouble at all. If he offended the KGB, it would be difficult for him to survive in Moscow in the future.

"Captain Andrei is the most capable pilot of our 513th Regiment and the first semi-ace of our regiment since World War II. He is the pride of our 513th Regiment. I don't believe my soldiers would betray their country." Colonel Ivanov said: "If you want to investigate, please investigate in our 513th Regiment, at the Sokolovka base. All of us will cooperate."

Andre was moved when he saw Ivanov's performance, with his right hand placed on the handle of the issued Makarov pistol behind his back, as if he would take it out at any time.

To have a conflict with the people from the KGB's Second Bureau at a time like this was simply to gamble with one's own career. Andrei felt warmed by the fact that the regiment commander could defend a pilot of the flight regiment and uphold justice.

However, precisely because of this, Andre felt that he could not allow the career of the head of the delegation to be affected. This matter had nothing to do with the head of the delegation, it was all the Americans who were behind this!

"Captain, I believe that our country's security committee will not wrongly accuse someone like me who loves the country. This is just a misunderstanding." Andrei said, "I am willing to go to Moscow with them to investigate."

The regiment commander must not be implicated, nor can the other members of the 513th Regiment be implicated. This matter is quite strange. Andre glanced at Kozhedub who was shrinking behind him and refusing to step forward. Even Andre can't stand this guy now.

"Andrei, everyone in our regiment believes that you are innocent and is proud of you." Ivanov looked at Andrei who was determined to leave and continued, "I will report to the superiors on behalf of our regiment and tell them how bravely you fought in our regiment."

Andre looked at him gratefully and followed him out. The two men who wanted to handcuff him ultimately failed. Andre walked out with his head held high and looked outside, where many pilots were already standing.

Although it has been less than a month since he came here, and he still has a long time to stay in the hospital, but in the army, military merit is the most respected. Andrei's performance in these few take-offs has been so outstanding that all the pilots in the regiment admire him very much and glare at the KGB's behavior.

Andre walked out of the headquarters and went outside. At this time, the sky was already bright. In the east, a red sun was rising slowly from the horizon, and the entire sky turned red.

A vast territory, a great alliance, such a powerful country, but it has not existed for even a hundred years. Thinking of the fight between Mao and Mao after the separation, Andre felt a little sad. After traveling here, he hoped to change this country with his own strength, but now it seems a little ridiculous. The Soviet Union under Brezhnev's rule has begun to go towards corruption and decline. And now, he has to go to Moscow for investigation on false charges.

It's funny, isn't it? Looking at the brilliant morning glow in the sky, Andre smiled sarcastically.

"Go!" Sherov said unfriendly.

Not far away, there was a Mi-8 helicopter parked. Andrei knew that as long as he got on that helicopter and left Sokolovka, he would be completely like meat on the chopping board.

At this moment, from a distance, Andre saw a white ambulance driving towards him quickly. With a sharp brake sound, the ambulance stopped next to Andre and his group.

The car door opened, and a female doctor in a white coat got out. She was not wearing a mask, and her face was full of anger.
