Chapter 453 Whitewashing the Peace
In Little Hangleton Village, Dumbledore took Sirius to discuss with Fudge in the village tavern, while Vader took Laura and Ada back to Hogwarts.
In the dead of night, the three of them appeared on the streets of Hogsmeade. They walked along the road for a while, and after turning a few more turns, they saw the lonely Twilight Cottage.
Pushing the door open, the twins rushed to the hall before the three of them could stand still, and they heard the sound of the door opening. Behind the twins were Mrs. Weasley, Professor Lupin, and Harry who looked worried.
After Dumbledore called a halt to the game, the students returned to their common rooms, under the care of their professors. Harry, disguised as Sirius, went to the Twilight Cabin accompanied by Mrs. Weasley, and Professor Lupine was responsible for protecting him.
The twins each gave Ada a big hug to celebrate her safe return. Mrs. Weasley went to the kitchen to prepare some food for the three people who had just returned.
Back in the living room, Ada did not eat. Instead, she held a water bottle and kept replenishing herself with water. She felt that she was about to dry up.
After drinking three large bottles of ice water, Ada told everyone what happened in the cemetery tonight. When Harry heard that Voldemort had returned, Harry clenched his fists so hard that his knuckles turned white.
After listening to Ada's narration, Professor Luping comforted him softly: "Ada, you are not responsible for what happened tonight. It was because we were too careless. We ignored one detail, which led to tonight's failure."
When they were in the cemetery, Ada and Sirius acted separately, so Sirius didn't know the specific situation on her side. But Ada still had to explain, because Sirius was captured by the two men, Barty Jr. and Welfare.
The explanation given by Ada was that she had dodged the spell, but because she was too close and had no time to dodge, she was knocked out of breath by the impact of the spell hitting the tombstone.
As for why Little Barty let her go, she didn't know what Little Barty was thinking. Maybe she was careless?
Ada's explanation sounds reasonable at first, but seems far-fetched when you think about it carefully. But no matter whether it is all of you here or the two people who stayed in Little Hangleton Village, no one will hold on to this matter. People's hearts are full of flesh.
"Thank you, Professor Lupin." Ada said. She was indeed a little annoyed, hating her own carelessness and incautiousness.
"Call me Remus, or Lupin. I am no longer your teacher." Lupine said, "Don't think about anything tonight and have a good rest. We still have a long way to go."
The night was getting deeper, and there was an irreversible darkness outside the window. Ada was lying sideways on the soft and comfortable bed, her eyes wide open.
She was exhausted, but she couldn't fall asleep. As soon as she closed her eyes, she could see Voldemort's pale snake face, and she lost sleep in an instant. It's not that he is afraid of Voldemort, but he is a little worried about the upcoming war.
War is always cold and cruel. There is no winner, only some people survive, and it is accompanied by many nightmares.
When the sky gradually turned from dark blue to white, Ada fell asleep. She slept until dusk. If she hadn't been so hungry, she might have been able to sleep for a long time.
After being in a daze for a while, Ada was confused for a moment by the dim sky outside the window, unable to tell the time. She couldn't tell which day it was, or whether it was day or night.
After Ada's brain also left the sleep state, she stretched her neck and shouted twice while sitting on the bed. There was no response from the hut, and it seemed that no one was there.
After getting up and briefly washing herself, Ada, wearing pajamas, wandered to the kitchen to look for food. But she found no food except a few slices of leftover toast.
Just as Ada was sitting cross-legged on the sofa, choking on slices of bread, Fred and George returned to the cabin and saw Ada with disheveled hair.
In a desperate attempt to grab the food, Fred snatched the dry piece of bread from Ada's hand and threw a bag of finger cakes to her like a magic trick. This finger cake looks like it was produced in the Hogwarts kitchen.
George took out a copy of the "Daily Prophet" from the pocket of his robe. He shook the newspaper and then pointed to the content on it for Ada to see.
The newspaper report on the Triwizard Tournament contained only a few lines, to the effect that the tournament ended successfully and Ada won the trophy. Not a word is said about the portkey at the center of the maze or the fact that Barty Crouch Jr. disguised himself as Moody and infiltrated Hogwarts.
If Fleur and Klum hadn't withdrawn midway through the third event, the championship probably wouldn't have fallen to Ada, although she did get the trophy.
George turned the newspaper over again, and the other page was about the fire in Little Hangleton Village. The report still only had a few lines, saying only that the fire was caused by a dark wizard, and that the Ministry of Magic was pursuing it with all its strength.
No, the reports in the newspapers were limited to this. Not to mention that Voldemort was back, not even Barty Jr. and Welfare were mentioned. The names of Dumbledore, Sirius, and Harry were even more unthinkable.
Cover the lid. There were only a few people who knew the truth anyway. Fudge deceived himself and chose to cover the lid. Apart from whitewashing the situation, Ada couldn't think of any other more appropriate words.
"If you ask me, I think it was Fudge who forced them to stay silent," George said.
"Stupid jellybean!" Fred said sarcastically. "When I saw the newspaper this morning, and especially after hearing Laura's comments about Fudge, I felt ashamed that I was a British wizard."
Holding finger cakes in her mouth, Ada said vaguely: "As expected, he can only be a greedy politician and can never become a leader."
After swallowing the finger cake, Ada asked: "Where are the others?"
"Grandma Vida was walking by the Black Lake, and Laura was accompanying her." George replied, "Harry returned to the castle with Ron and Hermione."
"Mother and Bill have returned to the Burrow, but Bill doesn't seem to want to leave." Fred said, "Sirius and Remus left school. It should be that Dumbledore asked them to do something."
While talking, the twins thought of something again, and they both said in unison: "By the way, Karkaroff ran away. He disappeared last night."
Fred and George heard this from students at Durmstrang. From last night to now, Durmstrang students have been looking for their principal for a long time, but they have not been able to find him.
"Karkaroff is a Death Eater. He betrayed his fellow Death Eaters." Ada said. "He was afraid of retaliation, so he ran away. Maybe it won't be long before we hear about his death. ”
For a traitor like Karkaroff, it is impossible for Voldemort to let him go or readmit him. If Karkaroff was spared this time, it would be difficult to lead the Death Eater team.
During dinner, Ada and the twins went to the castle, and the atmosphere in the auditorium was still lively.
The students didn't discuss much about the Triwizard Tournament. Only a few people who were familiar with Ada congratulated her. Everyone felt that Ada deserved to win the cup, and there was no dissatisfaction or doubt because the game was stopped.
Everyone was very interested in the fire in Little Hangleton Village, and they heatedly discussed which dark wizard would be responsible for it and when the Ministry of Magic would catch him.
Few people realize the connection between the Triwizard Tournament and Little Hangleton Village, and few people realize that the danger is quietly approaching and the peaceful time will no longer exist.
On the long teacher's chair, Ada saw the real Professor Moody. He looked particularly nervous. Whenever someone spoke to him, he jumped up in surprise.
Nearly ten months of imprisonment had made Moody even more suspicious. He didn't believe anyone except Dumbledore.
Karkaroff's seat was indeed empty, and the Demster students didn't seem to be too worried. I don’t know if they are big-hearted or if they really don’t like their principal.
At the long table, Ada also saw Professor Snape. His condition didn't look good. His face looked paler than usual, and his black eyes were a little dull, not knowing what he was thinking.
Not all bad things happened at the teacher's desk. Hagrid reattached himself to Ms. Maximi's side, as if he had been cast a permanent sticking spell.
