Chapter 155: Pursuit
"Do you know the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets?" Harry asked as he ran.
"Yes!" Fanlin nodded, "But I don't have that much time to explain it to you. Let's talk about it later, okay!"
Fanlin ran to the target location anxiously. There were no people along the way, as if they were all hiding. Fanlin only hoped that his eye disease spell would not fail, so that at least no one would die.
Turning a corner, Myrtle's toilet was in front of him. It started to leak again. Fanlin finally knew what was going on with the unrepaired drainage pipe.
The toilet was still the same. Myrtle was hiding in a cubicle.
"Ah, are you chasing that thing?" Myrtle was very happy to see Fanlin and Harry. She just saw the murderer who killed her again. Although she was not afraid, she still hid instinctively, in the cubicle where she hid before she died.
"Myrtle..." Fanlin panted. He had run very fast, but that was not enough. He didn't see anything except the traces of the basilisk crawling. But the good news was that he didn't see any traces of other people either.
"The basilisk must have gone down from here!" Fanlin pointed at the open sink, which was scattered to reveal the dark hole in the middle.
Fanlin picked up a stone and threw it into the hole. After about three or four seconds, Fanlin still didn't hear any echo. Maybe it was too deep or there was something soft underneath, which made the stone silent.
"Yes!" Myrtle said. She looked very happy. She went down the hole with a whoosh.
"Myrtle!" Fanlin shouted anxiously towards the hole. He didn't want Myrtle to experience the feeling of death again. Sir Nicholas was in such a state now.
But Myrtle came back soon. She flew up suddenly and her body passed over Fanlin's head.
"It's nice down there. The space is quite large!" Myrtle laughed.
"What about the basilisk?" Fanlin asked carefully. The effect of his eye disease spell was almost over.
"I don't know, but he didn't stay down there, but I'm looking forward to seeing him!" Myrtle laughed, and it turned out that a ghost's thinking could not be guessed by ordinary people!
"Are you going to go down?" Myrtle laughed, and she turned a circle in the air excitedly.
"Yes..." Harry and Fanlin nodded, "One of our friends was taken down by the basilisk."
"Is that so!" Myrtle tilted her head, as if she suddenly thought of something, "Then... if you die down there, I'd be happy to share a toilet with you two!"
Then there was a Myrtle-style laugh, which made Fanlin and Harry feel very... horrified!
Maybe, Myrtle was right, the two of them were still very weak in their ability to protect themselves, especially when facing such a huge basilisk.
"Uh uh..." Fanlin looked at Harry awkwardly.
"Anyway, thank you, Myrtle!"
Myrtle laughed shrilly, she floated to the ceiling again, she exposed her head, she always liked to do this, with her head sticking out of the ceiling, or wandering in the sewer.
"Let's go, Harry!" Fanlin took a deep breath, he and Harry looked at each other, and then jumped into the deep and bottomless passage.
The passage was not straight up and down, but a twisted pipe, which was why the stone did not send back the sound of falling to the ground!
The pipe was dirty and dark, which also blocked Fanlin's sight. After all, he was black himself, so what was there to see?
The passage seemed endless, Fanlin could see many other pipes extending sideways, but none of them was as huge as theirs.
Twisting, rotating, and sliding down steeply. Fanlin knew that he had slid down to a place far deeper than the school and the dungeon. He could hear the sound of Harry falling down the corner behind him.
"Cough... cough!" Fanlin coughed twice, he was choked, "Are you okay, Harry!"
"Not bad!" Harry climbed up, "Fortunately it's not a straight up and down passage, otherwise we would have felt it."
"Indeed!" Fanlin nodded, in order to take care of Harry, he still took out his wand, it was pitch black below, even he couldn't see very clearly, many of him could only see an outline.
"Lumos (fluorescent flash)!"
The cold light instantly dissipated the surrounding darkness.
"We must be several miles away from the school." Harry's voice echoed in the dark underground tunnel.
"Maybe at the bottom of the lake." Fanlin said while examining the dark and sticky walls around him.
"You know, Slytherin's common room is built under the Black Lake!"
Harry nodded, "What should we do now?"
"Let's go forward, the basilisk shouldn't stay here for too long, in fact..."
Fanlin took a few steps forward and picked up a bone from the ground, "This seems to be where he eats, but what kind of creature is this bone?"
"Who knows, maybe there is another passage leading to the outside!" Harry said, and he also lit up his wand, and the light illuminated his side.
"Let's go quickly, it's important to find Laura!"
The underground pipe was so deep that they could only see a short distance ahead. In the light of the wand, their shadows were reflected on the wall, looking extremely terrifying.
"Remember," Vanlin whispered as they moved forward cautiously, "if you hear any movement, you must immediately close your eyes and run away..."
"Wait, Harry, there is something ahead..." Vanlin shouted hoarsely, grabbing Harry's shoulder and signaling him to stop.
They were stunned and watched. Vanlin could only see the huge, curved outline of the thing, lying at the corner of the underground tunnel, and it did not move.
"Maybe it fell asleep." Harry took a breath and turned to look at Vanlin beside him.
"Don't be nervous..." Vanlin saw the thing in front of him clearly. It was the skin shed by the basilisk. He just rested on a ridge, which made it look like a real snake crawling there.
Harry and Vanlin's throats were a little dry. Just now in the library, the basilisk did not stretch out its entire body.
But now seeing the basilisk's entire body stretched out, they finally realized how huge a monster they were going to deal with! (To be continued)
