Chapter 1868: The Madman's Journey (Part 46)
Chapter 1842 The Madman's Journey (Forty-Six)
In the bright and spacious office of Stark Group, a burly figure in a suit stood in front of the window. The door was knocked. The bald man with gray beard turned around and squinted slightly against the light.
A black woman came in, wearing a capable security uniform. After she came in, she nodded gently to the bald man. It was visibly that the bald man relaxed.
"Mr. Obadiah, we have done what we promised you. Where is your reward?" The black woman said.
"Don't worry, I have to hear the news of Tony's death before I pay." Obadiah raised his chin, his face with ravines sank in the shadows, like the mysterious and dark back of the moon.
"He's dead." The black woman raised the communicator in her hand and said, "The Ten Rings are not vegetarians. They prepared a large number of explosives and ambushed on the road that Tony Stark must pass. The car drove up and then 'BOOM'..."
The black woman raised her hand and made an explosion gesture, but she didn't see the dark light that flashed across Obadiah's eyes.
Suddenly, the office door was knocked again. The black woman turned back and narrowed her eyes vigilantly. Obadiah stretched out a hand to signal her to stay calm and lowered his voice and said, "It may be that Pepper notified me to attend the board meeting."
"It is more likely that they came to announce the death to you." The black woman raised one corner of her mouth and showed a smug smile.
But at this time, the person who appeared outside the door was not the secretary in a suit, but a security guard in a security uniform. Obadiah snorted with some dissatisfaction and said, "What's wrong? Why can't you call?"
"Sorry, Mr. Obadiah, your designated security communication satellite phone received a call from an unknown number. We are not sure whether we can notify you by ordinary electronic communication. Do you want to go to the security department in person?"
Obadiah frowned deeply. The black woman ignored the security guard's expression, walked forward and slammed the door, turned around and stared at Obadiah and said, "It may be a call for help from Tony Stark. You can't answer it."
Obadiah showed a hesitant expression, and the black woman walked forward and said : "You have taken this step, sir, there is no turning back. If Tony Stark survives, he will not let you go."
"He doesn't know..."
"He will know."
Obadiah took a deep breath and relaxed his shoulders slightly. He seemed to have made a decision in his heart. He asked the black woman to open the door and looked at the security guard and said, "Where does the communication signal come from?"
"In the United States, sir."
Obadiah completely relaxed. He looked at the black woman and said, "It may be an instrument manufacturer I contacted secretly before. You know, some equipment needs to pass through the Mexican port to come in."
After that, he adjusted his suit and tie, walked out of the door quickly, and took the elevator to the security department.
The satellite phone was being suspended. The moment Obadiah picked up the phone, he heard a low voice from the other side.
"He knows."
"Beep-beep-beep-"
The phone was hung up.
Obadiah's hand holding the phone receiver was throbbing with veins. He turned to look at the black woman who followed him, stared at her with vicious eyes and said, "Tony Stark is not dead! Someone knows!"
"Who said that?!" The black woman rushed over and took a look at the phone number, but unfortunately anyone with a discerning eye could see that it was a virtual number that was covered up, and it was difficult to trace the source.
Obadiah pursed his lips tightly, and the flesh on his cheeks drooped down, making him look even more gloomy. He took a deep breath, and his bulging chest almost burst his suit.
Without staying for too long, Obadiah pushed the black woman away and walked out, and turned back to say to her, "Tony will not let go of the murderer who directly attacked him compared to me. If he comes back alive, none of you can escape!"
Looking at Obadiah's disappearing back, the black woman could no longer pretend to be calm. Her fingertips began to tremble. She took a deep breath, picked up the phone, and walked out of the building quickly while speaking a dialect that Americans couldn't understand.
In the other office, Pepper shook her hair back and put the phone to her ear. She heard the familiar voice of Stark from the other side. She said in confusion: "Tony, what's wrong? Did the inspection in Afghanistan go wrong?"
The voice on the other side sounded a little noisy, but Stark's voice was still clear: "Nothing, the inspection went well, I just... I just suddenly wanted to hear your voice, you go ahead."
"What's wrong? Tony?" Pepper's tone became a little anxious. She said: "It's so noisy over there, what are you doing? My God! Are you shaking? What's wrong with you? Tony! Tell me quickly!"
Pepper heard Tony on the other side take a deep breath and said in the tone of pretending to be calm that Pepper had heard countless times: "We just experienced an attack... God, God, Pepper, don't get excited, listen to me, listen to me!"
"It was very dangerous. Our car flipped over and many people threw bombs at us, but fortunately we met a mercenary named Eric, who saved me."
"I just got in a car we found locally and am heading to town. It was a bit scary just now, but I'm definitely not scared. I just called you... Forget it, nothing, I'll hang up first."
Ignoring Pepper's anxious shouting, Stark hung up the phone. He took a deep breath, squeezed the phone and closed his eyes. Eric, who was driving, turned his head and looked at him worriedly, "Are you okay? Tony, is she your girlfriend?"
"No, she's not." Stark said. He was a little flustered. He stretched out his hand to rub the bottom of his nose, sniffed and said, "Not yet."
Eric smiled brightly and said, "It seems that it will be soon. People always think of important people when they are dying. It seems that when the missile flew towards you, she stayed in your mind for at least one second."
"No." Stark denied it. He put his elbow on the open car window, turned his head to look out the window with a relaxed look, and changed the subject a little stiffly: "You said you are a mercenary here, so which country are you from?"
Stark tilted his head and did not see the gloom in Eric's eyes. Eric took his hand off the steering wheel. He picked it up and put it down again, and said, "Wakanda, I'm from Wakanda."
Stark lowered his sunglasses a little, looked at Eric from above the glasses, and there was undisguised surprise in his eyes. Eric shrugged helplessly and said, "Why? Don't I look like it?"
"No offense, but I thought you would be, uh, more high-tech."
"This is a common misunderstanding of Wakanda." Eric smiled and said, "In fact, high technology is only in the hands of royal family members. Although ordinary people are still rich, they don't have lethal force."
After listening to this, Stark was silent for a while and said, "You know, Eric, this journey has given me a great shock. I I didn't expect that the weapons I developed according to Obadiah's words would be used in such a place. This is completely meaningless! "
Stark's tone revealed disappointment. Seeing the curiosity in Eric's eyes, he explained: "Obadiah is my uncle. He is the best person to me after my father died. He hopes that I will research a lot of weapons and sell them to the army or other people. I don't know how many people I have indirectly killed in this way. I just feel that I can't go on like this. "
Eric said nothing, but reached out and patted Stark's shoulder, but suddenly he pressed the hand on the steering wheel suddenly exerted force, and a sharp turn made Stark's forehead hit the side of the car window.
"God! What happened?"
"Boom boom boom!"
"Damn it! They're coming again!!!" Eric shouted as he controlled the car to avoid the missile attack: "The firepower is stronger than before. Who are these people? Why have I never seen them here?!"
"They are coming for me!" Stark tried to hold the handrail beside the car tightly, and shouted in the sound of gunfire: "Stark Group has many enemies, and they all want to kill me!"
"Bang! Bang bang!"
In order to avoid the bombardment of the shells at close range, Eric had to turn the wheel desperately. The tire of the car pressed on a small raised earth slope. The high-speed turn made the center of gravity of the car even more unstable. With a "bang", the off-road vehicle flipped over directly, and the two people in the car were hit and bleeding.
Lying on the steering wheel, Eric, panting painfully, reached out to touch the gun beside him, but the next second, a thicker muzzle was pressed against his head. Eric could only slowly loosen his hand and raised both hands to the top of his head.
The car was pushed straight, and Eric and Stark were pulled out of the car together. Stark was about to say something when he was put on a black hood.
Eric lowered his eyes, obviously in a dilemma.
Saving the world's richest man in a sudden attack with not too strong firepower is one thing, and being kidnapped with him to another unknown place is another thing.
Eric knew very well that the firepower of the first attack was enough to kill the powerless rich man, but it was nothing for them, mercenaries who had been here for many years. But once Stark was saved, he had a chance to go to the country of lighthouses, where he could fly freely, with low investment and high returns.
But now the situation is stronger than people. The enemy has subdued the two of them. If he and Stark were taken away together, Stark was the richest man in the world, and the enemy could kidnap him for ransom. He was just a mercenary, and the enemy would only think that he was the bodyguard of this rich man. He had no use at all, so being killed became inevitable.
Eric's hesitation made him miss the best opportunity to speak, and he was also put on a hood and stuffed into the car.
From the actions of this group of people, Eric found that they were probably not ordinary terrorists, because the car kept circling in a certain area, and even he, who was experienced, could not be sure where the car finally stopped.
Eric finally made up his mind. The moment the car door opened, the miniature thermal dagger that he had hung on his wrist like a decoration popped out and instantly cut the rope that bound his hands. Eric swung the dagger hard, and the sharp blade of the dagger brushed the throat of the terrorist who opened the car door.
The moment it touched the skin, the laser energy surged, and it cut off the opponent's head as smoothly as cutting softened butter, and the other terrorists were stunned for a few seconds by this scene.
Eric kicked the driver who had just got off the car and drove away. The bullets behind him only raised a cloud of dust behind the car body, but failed to stop him from leaving.
Stark, who had been pulled out of the car, seemed to feel what happened. He clenched his hands tied behind his back, and despair overwhelmed his heart.
He was dragged and staggered forward. After walking for about ten minutes, he felt the light in front of him turn from bright to dark. The next second, he was pushed by a pair of big hands and fell straight to the ground.
He heard a heavily accented English voice in his ears, which said that Tony Stark was a scientist who invented many powerful weapons. He had to continue to develop weapons for them here, otherwise he would die.
After the rustling sound, the group of people left. Stark found that the rope that tied his hands was loose. He tried to open the restraints and wanted to tear off the hood on his neck.
Suddenly, he felt a pair of hands pressing on his neck. Stark struggled desperately, but he didn't feel the other party's strength. Soon he heard a gentle voice:
"Don't move, I'll help you untie it."
