Chapter 10 Pride and Prejudice (Part 1)
Compared with Schiller, Jonathan looks more like a good guy. He is thin, with long limbs, messy curly hair, and a pair of big black-framed glasses. He always has dark circles under his eyes, and looks very weak, like a complete otaku.
His personality in school is also very much like a good guy. All Gotham University students know that Jonathan is not strict in class and it is easy to pass the exams. Even when there are some absences and lateness, he will only raise his glasses and let those students sit down, and will not criticize them.
He looks like a nerd, and in contrast, Schiller, the new psychology professor, looks like a senior member of Arkham Asylum.
Schiller looks a bit like a mixed-race, with black hair and gray eyes, and the original owner also looks like a straight man, all his clothes are either black or gray.
Most of them are coats, scarves and formal clothes for work. Schiller has never gone out to buy clothes, so he has always maintained the original owner's dressing style. Gotham has been raining these days, and Schiller almost always carries a black umbrella.
How to describe this image, as if he is not the final villain of the TV series, he is a bit sorry for the audience.
And Schiller has only been here for a few days, and his students have found that he is actually a very strict professor. His teaching level is indeed very high, but he is ruthless to those students who are late or leave early, and he will test them every few classes, and he directly said in class that at least 30% of the students will fail this course, which makes everyone nervous.
Although the students of Gotham University have good family backgrounds, there are also rebellious ones among them. No college student will like such a professor. At the beginning, there were several thorns in Schiller's class, but soon, I don’t know which gossiper spread Schiller’s resume. Now the students in Schiller’s class are immediately quiet like docile sheep.
After all, no matter how you look at it, it is impossible for a normal person to participate in so many serial murders several times. Soon, Schiller became a campus legend in Gotham University.
Some people said that their professor was actually the murderer of these serial murders. Some people said that he actually carried some kind of unfortunate curse. Wherever he went, there would be terrible cases. There were also people with rich imagination who fabricated a tragic background for Schiller and proposed that he participated in the investigation of so many murders for revenge.
Among the various versions of the story, there will always be one that meets the students' inner expectations. Among the students, this bizarre and somewhat terrifying story always spreads very quickly. In a few days, most of the students knew Schiller's past.
When Schiller went out to buy breakfast, there was always no one at the window where he stood. The students all looked at him from a distance. In class, his homework was collected in an extremely neat manner. No professor has ever been able to do this.
After the confrontation that night, Schiller often felt Bruce following him, even during the day and on campus. Fortunately, he had spider sense. Bruce tried to install cameras in his dormitory, psychological counseling room and classroom podium several times, but failed.
But this gave Schiller inspiration.
It seems that the young Batman still didn't let it go, but he found that Bruce seemed to have reached some agreement with Gordon. Schiller went to the Mossen block several times at night, and he found that the two of them seemed to be really working together.
Finally one day, when it was close to bedtime, the sky in Gotham was as dark as ink.
Schiller didn't plan to go out tonight. He wanted to have a good sleep. University teaching was not as easy as he thought. Psychological diagnosis and treatment would occasionally bring students who really needed psychological counseling. Whether it was to relieve anxiety, relieve depression, or really need to provide psychological advice, these jobs were also very tiring, so he planned to have a good sleep.
But things did not go as planned. Jonathan, who was only active in the second half of the night, suddenly left the campus in the first half of the night. Schiller knew that he might want to catch a new batch of experimental subjects.
Indeed, Gordon and Bruce have been active in the Mawson District recently. Jonathan knows very well that he cannot beat the police. Once caught, he will definitely be locked up.
His physical fitness is not as good as Schiller's. He may even spray the fear gas wrongly. After Batman cleared the Gutter Gang and several other small gangs in the Mawson District, he has gradually become famous. People know that there is a weird vigilante here who is fighting against those gangs. Jonathan has not dared to show up for several nights.
But his fear gas is about to make a breakthrough. No experimenter can accept it. At this critical juncture, the experiment failed. His experimental subjects have been used up long ago. He must catch new ones.
Although he was physically weak, capturing the experimental subjects was a very simple task for him. He only needed to find a house with an open window, insert a tube into it, spray a large amount of anesthetic inside, then pry open their door and drag the person out.
Schiller watched him leave the campus, and he had to put on his coat, take his umbrella, and follow him. Although he didn't have a saintly mentality and didn't intend to be a superhero savior, he would still take care of the tragedy in front of him.
More importantly, if Jonathan continued to make trouble like this, there would be only a few people left in the Mossen Street District, and Batman's debut journey would be over before he succeeded. Anyway, Scarecrow would be caught by Batman sooner or later, so it would be better to do it today.
And Schiller used a little trick. He planned to teach Batman a lesson and let him wake up from that arrogant mentality quickly.
Batman still has room for mistakes now, because the Joker is still a circus performer. Schiller dare not think about how badly Batman will be played by the Joker if he appears in front of the young Batman now.
Although Batman is still young and has many shortcomings, he has to admit that the skills he has learned from traveling around the world are not given in vain.
Jonathan is not a meticulous criminal now. He has not received any special training and has no anti-detection awareness. Many of his clues were discovered by Batman and Gordon.
The two of them worked together to find the basement of the chapel, where they found Jonathan's laboratory. It was not a very sophisticated laboratory, and it could even be said to be very much like a black-hearted workshop.
It was dim, cramped, and there was an unpleasant smell. Batman looked at the drainage pipe in the basement and said, "I think I know where those people went."
Gordon came over with a pistol and said, "Although I don't want to ask, I have to write the truth in my combat report."
"Aqua regia. It can not only melt metal, but also the most difficult part of the human body."
"Okay, I know, you don't have to say it, I don't want to hear the details." Gordon said.
They investigated in this small laboratory, and suddenly, Gordon found a little trace under an old crate, which was some broken leaves.
"Northern red pine." Batman said, "I saw its cotyledons."
"Damn it, there are no pine trees in the whole Gotham? Otherwise, the weather here wouldn't be like this." Gordon said.
"I think there is a place with this plant..." Batman said.
"Gotham University is the most green place in the whole Gotham City. On the widest sidewalk there, there are these plants on both sides."
Gordon squatted down, he looked at the traces carefully, and said:
"It should be that the murderer's boots stepped on these fallen leaves, which were still covered with mud. Obviously, the heavy rain in the past few days caused him a lot of trouble. After he came here, the stains fell off inadvertently, and he didn't clean it up."
Gordon looked up and said: "Is the murderer a student of Gotham University?"
"Maybe it could be a teacher." Batman said,
"Is it the person you threatened that day?" Gordon asked,
"I'm not threatening him." Batman said,
"But you cut his neck with a dart and made him bleed a lot. Such a long wound will probably leave a scar." Gordon said.
"Are you sympathizing with a criminal?" Batman asked,
"He is not a criminal, at least not before the trial."
"Trial..." Batman snorted coldly.
Gordon sensed Batman's distrust of the judicial system, but he did not refute him righteously. He had been a policeman in Gotham for a long time, and the judicial system here was indeed not trustworthy, or the entire order system here was not trustworthy.
"But in my opinion, you are holding a dangerous weapon and wantonly hurting an unarmed ordinary person. This is a threat." Gordon said.
"Unarmed..." Batman said.
He suddenly found that he could not refute Gordon, because according to his knowledge, Schiller did not seem to have received any professional combat training, and Batman was sure that he could knock him down with one punch.
But he had been troubled by this person for many days, but he had no way to deal with it. He suddenly remembered a sentence he had heard on his way to study - words are more powerful than fists.
But that's it, Batman thought.
The murderer is from Gotham University. There is almost no other answer. Isn't this evidence conclusive enough? Maybe it's time to send that crazy professor to jail.
He looked at the stained drainage pipes under his feet, where more than forty souls disappeared, and there must be parents among them.
On that night a long time ago, his parents' lives disappeared in the alley, but no one paid the price they deserved.
But now it's different. With him, these criminals will eventually go to where they should go, and none of them can escape.
