This Aura Is Deadly

Chapter 424 Jacob, Stealing

When the first rays of sunlight dyed the church spire golden, Big Ben also rang in time.

Langdon began to revive, and factories everywhere blew whistles to start work.

Carriages came and went, and people poured into the streets to start working for their livelihoods.

Jacob wore a top hat and wrapped himself in a clean gentleman's windbreaker.

He held a cane in his right hand and walked with the crowd towards the police station.

Going out early in the morning made him, a night owl, very uncomfortable, but today he had something very important to do.

In the 19th century, there was no county police system, and even fire alarms were provided by insurance companies.

The police station was a brand new business initiated by the Queen for many companies in Ingram.

This business was supported by the royal family and provided security services for the entire Langdon and some large cities in Ingram.

Four police carriages carried police officers to patrol the streets. They started from the parking lot behind the police station and patrolled five times a day.

Jacob avoided the carriages, took a deep breath, and then pushed the door to enter the police station.

The sheriff's nose was red, and his black-brimmed hat was placed on the table. He was sitting behind his desk reading the Times Morning Post.

The sheriff's station had a simple detention center function, usually holding petty thieves and serious criminals waiting to be transferred to prison.

Seeing Jacob walk in, the sheriff didn't react much, just let his eyes pass over the newspaper and glanced.

"Jacob, Jacob, Jacob~" the sheriff joked.

"Come on, Old Joe, I don't have a middle name, and my last name is not Jacob." Jacob said, walking towards the detention area with ease.

"You really should keep a closer eye on your boys." The sheriff, known as Old Joe, knocked on the table.

"Jack? Jack?" Jacob greeted inside.

Two security guards leaned against the small cell, with half-arm-long sticks hanging around their waists.

"Jacob, I knew you would come, take me out! They locked me up for a night!" A little boy with brown hair immediately came to the iron door.

He was about 6 years old, wearing blue coarse clothes, with a dirty face and a pair of bright and clear eyes, giving people a feeling of being too smart.

"At least here you don't have to fight with Big Jacob for the bed." Jacob spread his hands and smiled.

"Ah... terrible! I don't want to stay here any longer, you must get me out!" Jack said frustratedly.

"I told you not to break into the house, didn't you help it?" Jacob squatted down and shook his head.

"No, I didn't! I swear to the Queen!" Jack argued.

"The Queen won't come to save you, I think it's better for you to stay in there for a few days." Jacob smiled.

"You can't do this! We are a family!" Jack shouted.

Jacob got up and walked straight to Old Joe's table regardless of Jack's noise behind him.

"Where did you catch him?" Jacob asked.

"It's right here at the police station, whether you believe it or not." Old Joe said.

"Are you kidding me? You said he came to rob your police station? You finally know how to joke, old Joe!" Jacob laughed.

However, old Joe's expression did not change, and he still looked dead.

"Oh... okay, what did he steal? Your gun or your wallet?" Jacob restrained his smile and became more serious.

"If he stole my gun and wallet, it wouldn't be so serious." Old Joe snorted.

"What do you mean?" Jacob was stunned.

"Jacob, don't you read the Longtown newspaper? There was a murder case in the hotel by the Thames last week, and almost everyone in the city knew about it." Old Joe said.

"What does this have to do with Jack?" Jacob didn't understand.

Old Joe opened the drawer and threw two guns and a wallet on the table. He said angrily: "Little Jack sneaked in yesterday afternoon when we were not paying attention, and actually tried to steal the evidence of the murder case."

Jacob looked at the two guns on the table, one was an ordinary revolver, and the other gun had a very advanced structure. There were blood stains on the muzzles of these two guns.

He recognized the two guns.

"He's dead...?" Jacob thought secretly.

"He's really messed up this time." Old Joe leaned back in his chair and threw the newspaper on the table.

Jacob sighed and took out a silver pocket watch from his arms.

"Look, Old Joe, everyone makes mistakes. Little Jack is just a child." He hung the pocket watch in front of Old Joe and shook it.

"Hmm... sterling silver?" Old Joe looked at it for a while and asked.

"There are twelve small diamonds in the dial." Jacob nodded and smiled mysteriously.

Old Joe pinched the pocket watch, hesitated for a moment, and then let go and asked, "Is it easy to sell?"

"It's not something from the locals, Old Joe, I'm very cautious." Jacob smiled.

Old Joe held his breath and put the pocket watch in his arms without much thought.

"Tell him to be more cautious next time, Jacob." Old Joe said.

"I will, Old Joe, I will." Jacob bowed slightly.

Old Joe came out from behind the table, took out the key to the cell, and signaled the two security guards at the door to open the door.

Jacob stood by the table, watching little Jack rush out of the iron door impatiently.

"Jack, you won't be so lucky next time." Old Joe said.

"Next time I will be more careful!" Jack passed between the three people sideways and rushed behind Jacob.

"You really should send those children to an orphanage." Old Joe suggested.

"On the contrary, they all ran away from the orphanage." Jacob smiled.

"Get out of my police station before I change my mind!" Old Joe waved his hand.

Jacob took off his hat, bowed slightly, and then walked out of the police station with little Jack in his arms.

After the two left, Old Joe took out the sterling silver pocket watch and looked at it again. The sheriff next to him also came over.

"Can it be exchanged for a lot of money?" asked the sheriff.

"It's enough for our three months' salary. That's why I tolerate him and his group." Old Joe smiled cunningly.

He walked to the table, opened the drawer, threw the pocket watch in, and then looked at the evidence on the table.

There was only a revolver left.

Old Joe panicked and rushed out the door immediately, looking at the street. The bustling streets were crowded with people. Looking left and right, he couldn't find a man or a child.

Old Joe's beard was trembling because of his breath. The cold air made him upset, and all his emotions turned into a word "Damn it" and sprayed out of his mouth.

At the same time, Jacob and Jack were walking in the alley. On the roof, several children were helping them to observe the surrounding situation.

"Don't do it again next time. We still need Old Joe. Do you understand?" Jacob warned.

"But you seem to have angered him." Jack looked at Jacob with a squint.

He was rummaging through his wallet, and the pistol was hidden in the pocket of his coat.

"I will find a way to make Old Joe forget about this. These two things came from a friend of mine. I think he may need..." Jacob took out some magnetic cards and certificates from his wallet, and also took out some banknotes and coins that he couldn't understand.

"It's not much money... but look, which country's currency is this?" Little Jack snatched a coin from Jacob.

"I don't know... but wait..." Jacob took out a magnetic card with a human head printed on it and examined it carefully.
