Chapter 220 Collapse
Even if Chen Ke didn't say it explicitly, everyone could feel the seriousness of the situation, because Ying Baiyi's expression was unusually uneasy.
As a Level 9 agent of the Administration, something that could make him uneasy must be more terrifying than a monster.
Everyone present, except Chen Ke and the two children, fell into an inexplicable state of anxiety.
Having just survived the pursuit of the birdman, they thought they had come to a safe place, but they encountered unknown dangers again.
Sam was close to hysteria. He became silent and looked around with alert eyes, trying to find something to distract himself.
Other survivors also showed some abnormal behaviors. Some kept reciting the Bible and praying for the blessing of God. Some of them kept shaking and walked like they had epilepsy.
Diana lay on Chen Ke's back, motionless. Her self-confidence and sense of control over the situation had been constantly hit. Under the dual pressure of severe injuries and negative emotions, she fell into a coma again.
Chen Ke looked at the state of the people around him. He knew that everyone had reached a limit. They kept rushing on the road, kept being told that there was still hope, and then kept being hit.
The thought of "no way back" has been lingering in everyone's mind except Chen Ke.
Chen Ke felt that he needed to say something to boost morale, but he didn't know what to say. He could tell them that he could open the door by himself, but this was not a wise move.
"Ugh..." Behind him, a survivor suddenly bent down, stared, and vomited out everything in his stomach. The white and yellow sticky stuff was splashed on the ground, giving off a smell, and there was even the smell of biscuits in it.
Others pinched their noses, subconsciously stayed away from the survivor, and cast a disgusted look at him.
The man took a few breaths, his legs softened, and he sat on the ground, unable to stand up again.
"Hey! What's wrong?!" Sam turned around and asked angrily. There was an unhappy look on his face, and he had no concern for the man at all, only boredom.
"I... I'm not feeling well..." the vomiting survivor said weakly, with a sobbing tone in his voice, and it seemed that he wanted to lie on the ground.
"Get up quickly! We still have to hurry! Don't slow us down!" Sam ordered in a military tone.
"My legs are weak... my stomach hurts... I can't stand up." The man was already lying on the ground.
Sam walked over, grabbed his arm, and lifted him up from the ground, like lifting a dog.
"If you don't want to leave, then we will leave you behind!" He stared into the man's eyes and said.
Chen Ke put Diana on the ground and walked towards Sam. Sam has now changed. This is a natural stress response of humans under high pressure, using extreme emotions to protect fragile reason.
"Sam." Chen Ke shouted.
"Chen Ke, this is none of your business, I just don't want to slow us down." Sam looked back at Chen Ke and said.
"Put him down, Sam." Chen Ke said.
"He is slowing us down." Sam replied.
"No room for negotiation, Sam, put him down." Chen Ke frowned.
Everyone around was looking at the two of them. Diana lay on her side on the ground with her eyes closed. Ying Boyi stood a little further away from the crowd, not knowing what to say.
"So... you think I'm wrong?" Sam smiled.
"Put him down first." Chen Ke said again.
As soon as Sam let go, the man fell to the ground, holding his stomach and curled up into a ball.
"Satisfied? Do you want to leave him behind, or let us wait until he can stand up before leaving? Let me say this first, no one here is willing to carry him." Sam sneered.
"Sam, calm down. You can do it. You've persisted... for so long." Chen Ke comforted.
Sam heard what Chen Ke meant, looked down at the ground, then looked at the sky, sighed, and then stared at Chen Ke with anger in his eyes.
"Are you saying, I'm crazy?" Sam asked.
"Yes. That's what I mean." Chen Ke said coldly.
Sam laughed, put his hands on his waist, and looked at the survivors around him.
"He said I was crazy? Did you hear that?" Sam joked, and everyone he saw avoided his gaze.
"You want..." Chen Ke started.
"You're the fucking crazy one! Chen Ke! Really, I've been thinking about this question since just now, why are you always so calm? Why haven't you ever been afraid? Chen Ke? Maybe you were crazy from the beginning, from the moment the subway accident happened, you might have been crazy." Sam pointed at Chen Ke and said angrily without waiting for Chen Ke to finish.
"Don't force me, Sam." Chen Ke said.
"I'm even a little suspicious now, is it your idea that we came here inexplicably? Ah... By the way, no matter where you go, you always know where there are monsters and where it's safe..." Sam slowly paced around Chen Ke.
"Sam... Chen Ke saved us..." Diana interrupted at this time.
"Shut up, you... damn woman, who knows what your relationship with her is! I'm a little suspicious, are you an agent of the Administration? Maybe you and her are in collusion... You colluded to come to this world..." Sam accused angrily.
Chen Ke took a step back and stood in front of Diana.
"You should explain why you, as an ordinary person, are so calm and composed, and... you are almost not injured..." Someone next to him interrupted.
Sam's hysteria has already caused this small team to show signs of division.
"Then tell me, Sam, why did Diana and I come here?" Chen Ke asked.
"Because... because you want to rescue Ying Baiyi, you are all Asians! Asians like to unite." Sam pointed at Ying Baiyi in the distance.
"That would be great, but it's obviously not." Ying Baiyi spread his hands.
"Don't talk nonsense, Sam, you are going crazy, control yourself!" Chen Ke said.
"Since I came in, I have been constantly controlling! Control! But look at Chen Ke, what have we controlled?" Sam roared.
"We can still control ourselves, we can go back." Chen Ke said.
"Then why don't you make it clear? Chen Ke, you keep saying that we can go back, how can we go back? Huh? Tell me, why are you so sure?" Sam asked harshly.
"We can go back, you just need to trust me." Chen Ke said.
"You are the same as Ying Baiyi! But you can't fool us! You are not an agent of the Administration, and you are not a county police officer! Stop playing superhero! Do you know? In a desperate situation, using non-existent hope to inspire people is the biggest deception!" Sam stared at Chen Ke and said fiercely.
The survivors around him obviously agreed with Sam's statement, and cast distrustful eyes at Chen Ke.
