Warhammer: In the Name of Ashes

Chapter 49 Boredom and the Discovery of Linguistics

The war had begun when Calvin entered his room.

The demon, sensing the coming of someone above him, could not wait to send upward the maximum power allowed by the seal, and then waiting for the return and reaction was one of the few things it could do.

Failure was normal in the eyes of this servant of Shalis. Since it was sent here 27 thousand years ago, it had learned how to entertain itself in the lonely and boring time.

During the long time of sealing, this disgusting thing, which was essentially the same as its creator, composed of pure twisted desires, became patient.

It understood its mission, its essence, and knew its origins completely from the moment it was born. Therefore, it was full of malicious contempt for the human beings' imprisonment of it.

"How long can you imprison me? Or can you really pose even the slightest threat to an existence like me? Really, pathetic and ridiculous mortals..." It also sighed like this.

After a long wait of four thousand years, the Grey Knights arrived at Titan at the order of the Emperor.

It was not surprised but happy about this. It had almost forgotten its own way of existence after too long of guarding. It was not able to play and corrupt in mortal time, which made it dissatisfied with its life.

The arrival of these Grey Knights who seemed to have restraint on demons did not pose any crisis to it, which knew its origin and was no longer threatened by death.

Regardless of success or failure, its power was destined to become stronger with time, and the same reason made it full of evil interest in these short-lived species.

As long as there was a chance to try, it never rejected the opportunity of everyone appearing in its power range.

Although in past attempts, the corruption of the Grey Knights' recruits had never been successful.

But at the beginning, when the Grey Knights did not know it yet, it still made use of several mortal slaves who were mistakenly put underground to cause a little trouble. This was also the only topic that it could comfort itself with for thousands of years.

Calvin was also busy. The training with the Shapers during the day did not consume his psychic energy storage, so when he returned to his residence and took off his power armor with the help of auxiliary machinery, his own practice began.

Calvin, sitting in the quiet room, ignored the noise of the demon fragments that began to appear spontaneously around him, and concentrated on examining his body.

Calvin's current efforts are mainly focused on the development of his own body. Regarding his body, the underlying cell iteration is still continuing.

In the long-term observation, Calvin slowly discovered some interesting phenomena: in the initial cell samples from the holy blood, the amount of information carried by the runes was not consistent.

In the runes at some key nodes, Calvin parsed out information equivalent to ten times that of the initial runes, and the corresponding runes had the same carrying capacity for psychic energy consumption and will as ten times that of the basic initial runes.

The further back, the more frequent the appearance of such runes with high information content. When the perspective is enlarged to the entire cell, these tiny runes themselves form a more complex, dynamic, and three-dimensional rune.

And the "text" composed of such a collection of runes, almost every piece of information contained can be compared to a slightly thin book.

And the word order they use to express things is also different from the traditional arrangement of the language used by humans in a front-to-back order.

They are more about describing the essence of a thing in reverse from the perspective of time and space. So when you can understand it, you can directly understand its meaning from the perspective of time and space.

In a sense, if a person's life is expressed in this way, one character is enough.

"Is this the Warhammer version of the file compression?" Calvin muttered to himself.

In his spiritual perspective, he was observing such a "text", and its meaning and pronunciation were only roughly known after a few minutes of Calvin's full mental concentration.

When these complex information finally took shape in Calvin's mind, he subconsciously tried to pronounce the character: "ri (ma) sa (si)..." The complex multiple simultaneous sounds seemed to indicate that this language was not designed for human pronunciation organs, and even Calvin's voice and mouth, which were different from ordinary people, could only complete less than one-third.

But this character seemed to have its own life and power.

When Calvin completed all the correct steps in the initial pronunciation, his consciousness was awakened, and a force in the void began to instinctively draw his psychic energy to simulate the sound he failed to make.

Fortunately, with Calvin's vast psychic energy reserves, completing this process did not put too much burden on him.

If Calvin at this time and place were replaced by a mortal psychic or an ordinary psychic master, then the final result of this ritual-like behavior that cannot be stopped once it starts, the most likely result is that the user's life will continue to be drawn after the psychic energy is declared exhausted until this ritual-like pronunciation is completed.

The cost is far more than that.

After the psychic pronunciation and the sound in Calvin's mouth were almost emitted at the same frequency, Calvin clearly felt the unprecedented and strange fatigue from the side of his soul.

For his soul, which has now permanently crossed the boundary between mortals and gods, there has never been a spiritual energy that makes him feel tired. Even if all the spiritual energy is exhausted, it is just a slight discomfort for him.

The stability of the divine soul is incomparable to that of mortals. This difference is reflected in the details of every aspect of Calvin's life. The phrase "where gold and stone exist, they remain the same for all eternity" is the most appropriate to describe the solidity of his soul.

And his soul still felt a slight burden after completing this pronunciation, so what about the soul of a mortal?

I'm afraid it's possible to collapse directly. If it's a more complex "text"? Then it is estimated that the only ending waiting for this arrogant mortal is the disappearance of the soul.

"This is really a luxurious language." Calvin thought silently in his heart. And as his pronunciation was completed:

"Buzz!" A strange power finally took shape beside Calvin. It seemed to be of no use. It just emitted a strong and pure light in a short time, sweeping away the fragments of the demons in the physical universe around him.

When these fragments came into contact with this light, they melted instantly like snow in the sun.

This effect was completely different from the demons that Calvin had seen before, whose souls escaped back to the subspace after their entities were broken.

And there seemed to be something in the void that gave Calvin immediate feedback after obtaining the power represented by these demons:

Such feedback was finally realized on the cell that he had been concentrating on observing.

This cell finally began to emit its own light, unlike the poor imitations that Calvin had made before.

It began to replicate itself with Calvin's support and spread around, and after a few minutes, it stopped for some unknown reason.

At the same time, Calvin's imitation process of these holy blood cells just crossed the 10% point.

Calvin was very satisfied with this. After accumulating for a long time, he finally had a visible reward.

But what he didn't notice was that the feedback from the void was far more than that.

After the cell completed its replication and spread, the broken runes on the periphery of Calvin's divine soul finally showed the first golden flash of power after a long period of repair.

The machine soul is in chaos! The author's typesetting is completely out of control!
