Chapter 24 Receiving and Hunting Time
Behind the headless body of Marcus the Word Bearer, Calvin was panting violently.
Black venous blood slowly overflowed from his nasal cavity, dripping from his chin along the mask to the ground.
Compared with these Astartes who underwent complex and expensive transformation operations, the transformation of assassins like Calvin by the Assassin's Court seemed more brutal and extreme.
No genetic modification, no organ transplantation. Only abused hormones and a body on the verge of collapse are the true face of each Iverson Assassin hidden behind the strength.
From the very beginning, the Assassin's Court built these assassins based on the product plan of disposable products. Obviously, the possibility of recycling and reuse was not considered in the plan.
It is rare among the Iverson Assassins to be able to successfully perform the mission without having his brain burned by the boiling hormones in his body. It is also a pleasant surprise for the Assassin's Court.
But the disadvantage of multiple use is here. His body is already on the verge of collapse. Perhaps the next battle will be the beginning of collapse.
But he still has one last use value, that is himself. Calvin's blood had long been transformed into a strong acidic liquid, and his normal movements were balanced by a specific hormone secreted by a gland implanted in his heart.
When this gland could not detect Calvin's vital signs, it would stop working immediately.
Within a few seconds, the strong acid in his body would corrode his muscles, and then the strong acidic blood would come into contact with the soft explosives that had been implanted in the lower layer of the muscles.
This "human firework" was Calvin's last loyalty to the empire. If he really went that far.
After simply cleaning up the blood stains he left behind, Calvin began to rush towards the real target this time.
The target should have known of his existence, and there would be no chance of taking shortcuts. What awaited Calvin was a tough battle.
In the ruins, the three had obviously successfully obtained the equipment, which was carried on the captain's back for personal safekeeping, and the other two protected him on both sides. On the way back, the atmosphere between the three was obviously much more relaxed than before. In their eyes, after meeting up with the other two as planned and returning to the waiting warship in orbit, this mission was considered a successful completion.
"I hope White doesn't have too much fun. Otherwise, we will have to wait a long time." Captain Kyle's voice came from the loudspeaker. The five people's hometown is Colchis, which is also an important bond for their long-term cooperation.
As a few fellow countrymen who have been together since the recruits, it is not easy for all five people in the team to survive until now. Although as time goes by in the subspace, the feelings of normal people in them are becoming rarer. But this friendship between fellow countrymen and comrades has always been an important pillar for Kyle to maintain himself.
"Marcus will let him hold back. That coward has not made any progress in so many years." Korif, who was walking side by side on the left, said.
"Marcus is so brave. If it weren't for Kyle's leadership, I wouldn't believe that he would follow us to overthrow that false emperor!" Ma Wei, the Word Bearer on the right, said.
The three of them walked slowly to the entrance of the ruins in a guard formation.
"Stop moving forward." Captain Kyle suddenly stopped and ordered.
The two team members subconsciously used the auspicious instrument to check the surroundings. After searching in vain, Ma Wei asked in his hoarse voice filtered through the MKⅣ helmet loudspeaker. "What happened, Kyle?"
"Take a look at your data records. How long ago was the last time you received the vital signs of White and Marcus?"
Captain Kyle, who was more burly than the two brothers, asked the two team members after a brief thought.
"113 breathing cycles ago, brother Kyle." Kerrifu, who was behind Kyle, said first.
"Mine is 134. What do you want to say, Kyle?" Ma Wei, who was at the front of the team, also finished reading the virtual screen on his helmet glasses.
"There is no signal interference in this relic. There has been no signal interference since landing. The range of activities of White and Marcus has not reached the maximum communication range. Their vital signs disappeared for no reason. I ordered to check the number of ammunition. Enter alert status." Captain Kyle said.
"Maybe it's an equipment failure? You are too suspicious, my brother." Although the Word Bearer in front of the team was still complaining, he did not stop checking the status of weapons and counting the actions in his hands and the steps under his feet.
"Two equipment failures at the same time? You might as well believe that the false emperor can stand up from the toilet!" This was Kyle's answer.
"Bang!" A dull explosion sounded from Ma Wei's feet. An egg-shaped object half buried in the mud and similar in color to the surroundings was crushed by Ma Wei, and a new green liquid burst out. The smell was not good, but it could definitely be heard from far away.
"What is this?" Ma Wei asked.
"The eggs of the sword-shaped spider, we are in trouble!" Kyle said. The sword-shaped spider, a large social creature with human-like intelligence, has a very developed sense of smell. The smell of broken spider eggs will obviously attract revenge from the entire tribe.
He began to look at the surrounding vegetation nervously. The fluorescent grass that was unique to the ground, which was one person high, swayed quietly with the breeze, and the surrounding environment was temporarily quiet.
But in the distance, there were already tiny and fragmented sounds approaching rapidly. The sound of dead leaves and rotten wood being pierced kept coming, and Kyle knew that their trouble was coming.
But what concerned him more than this was that the person who put this spider egg here waiting for them was there. That guy was the real threat.
They couldn't wait any longer. The spiders were getting closer and closer to them. Once they were besieged by these giant spiders with corrosive saliva, Kyle couldn't guarantee that they would not be injured at all. Two of the five people were already missing. Kyle felt that he had an obligation to bring the remaining two back alive.
"Find a place with a backrest!" Kyle shouted. The spiders had already emerged from the bushes, and seven giant spiders rushed out of the bushes at the first time.
The furious giant spiders had the same goal and rushed directly to Ma Wei. And in the bushes behind them, there were more of their kind rushing in the shadows.
"Here! Get closer to me!" Korif on the left shouted in response, and started firing short bursts with the bolt gun in his hand. The first wave of sword-ruler spiders were killed one after another under the crossfire between him and Ma Wei.
Kyle turned his head and saw that behind Korif was a huge rock the size of a rockery, standing next to the wide cave at the entrance of the ruins. He immediately turned back to look at Ma Wei on the other side. I hope he can reunite with the two as soon as possible.
However, a black figure approached from behind Ma Wei. He did not greedily try to kill Ma Wei at once. Instead, he attacked the power backpack on the defenseless Ma Wei after getting close enough.
The power claws filled with blue light only hit the entire power backpack with a foot-long gap. The location of the gap is very clever, at the intersection of the power source and the backup power. The opponent seems to know the structure of this device very well.
Then he hit and left, disappearing in the grass as high as a person in an instant, without giving any chance for Corey and Kyle in the distance to react.
Only Ma Wei was left standing in place, and the eyepiece on his helmet gradually dimmed due to lack of energy, which showed the results of this attack.
"Damn bug!" Ma Wei, who was supposed to reunite with his teammates, gained a time difference due to the firepower of his teammates. In this way, because of the sudden attack, the electron beam muscles in the entire power armor that lost energy supply quickly became stiff.
His steps began to stagger, and the power armor that had previously amplified him now became heavy and full of resistance.
After taking only two steps in the direction of Kyle and Corey, he was attacked by the spider swarm that appeared later.
Kyle and Corey looked at each other: "We must bring Ma Wei back. Otherwise, they will be defeated one by one sooner or later." Kyle, who no longer cared about his face, had just sent a distress signal to space, but it would take at least 2 hours for the spacecraft in the asteroid belt to receive the signal and approach the orbit to start a new airdrop. He couldn't have too much hope for this.
From another perspective, from the perspective of the assassin Calvin on the other side of the battlefield, he had successfully moved behind Kyle and the other man in secret. He was just silently waiting for the opportunity for them to send people to rescue again. There was only one chance, and failing to kill the target left behind would completely prompt the other party to give up the determination of the lone person.
In the following time, he would hardly have the opportunity to complete the task again. The other party had support, and he knew it very well; the assassin Calvin had no support, and he knew it very well.
