Chapter 1 Angels Arrive

Many years later, when the war band leader Kano Yang fought for a dark empire that he did not understand, he would remember the distant afternoon when he saw the angel on Baal.

——

Baal (the second satellite of the planet Baal), in the endless desert.

Kano took a deep breath and stepped on the accelerator to the bottom.

The promethium engine of the old military pickup truck made a deafening roar. Under the violent turbulence, the pickup truck narrowly avoided an attack. As a price, Kano smelled the pungent smell of burning from the engine.

Boom!

The danger has just begun.

With the help of the rearview mirrors on both sides, Kano can see what a terrifying and hideous monster is chasing behind him.

It is a mutant monster called the Jaw of the Wrapped Foot. "It" may have been a human, but under the radiation pollution of Baal all year round, it was tortured by the horror of mutation and could no longer recognize the prototype.

This evil creature was as big as a tank, with bubbling necrotic wounds all over its flesh and blood. Its mouths, filled with sharp fangs, opened and closed from time to time, uttering uninterrupted mutterings and snickers that sounded like human rants. Its huge claws could tear apart the heaviest armor.

Its body temperature was extremely high, like a blazing furnace.

Coupled with the terrifying radiation naturally emitted from its body, the air around it was distorted.

Such a terrifying monster, just one glance would make one feel incurable blasphemy, and one would wish to dig one's eyes out of one's head alive.

The attack just now came from this mutant beast.

There were still clearly visible deep pits on the ground. There was no doubt that if the deadly attack had not been avoided just now, this military pickup truck would have been easily torn apart like a piece of worn-out wood. He, Kano, and the sniper O'Kelly sitting in the co-pilot seat next to him would have been eaten alive without resistance like meat in a can.

They were lucky.

But the other desert truck behind them was in bad luck.

Another larger-sized Wrapped Mandible attacked from the blind spot and flipped the huge truck weighing dozens of tons to the ground. The glass of the truck was ruthlessly torn to pieces, and Landon, an experienced hunter in the Pureblood Tribe, was dragged out alive from the torn compartment. Two mutant beasts bit his two thighs respectively and pushed in opposite directions.

Swish!

In the sound of flesh tearing that made people feel teeth aching.

Landon was split into two alive, and the scarlet blood and sticky internal organs flowed on the ground, being eaten by two greedy beasts.

Bang!

The death of his companion made O'Kelly feel indescribable pain.

But she did not miss such a rare opportunity. Half of her body was leaning out of the speeding pickup truck, aiming her gun. Although there was only a simple auxiliary aiming device, the bullet that came out of the barrel still hit the monster's eyes accurately, and a blood-red flower exploded on the rotten body.

Such injuries were not enough to seriously injure the Foot-Bound Jaw.

It was a deformed monster as big as a tank, a devil climbing out of hell, and a terrifying existence that mortals could hardly defeat.

The pain completely angered the Foot-Bound Jaw.

It gave up the remaining meat under its feet and began to run wildly in the direction where the pickup truck was moving away.

Although it was bloated, its speed was not much different from that of a full-speed military pickup truck, and even exceeded it. In the image presented by the rearview mirror, the shadow of the monster was getting bigger and bigger. Fortunately, Kano's driving skills were skilled enough-although he was only fourteen years old this year, on Bashar II, where the average life expectancy was only thirty years old, Kano was already a very experienced hunter.

"What should we do now?"

Even though O'Kelly tried his best to make his voice sound calm and steady, Kano still keenly detected a slight trembling tone from it. The promethium engine of this military pickup truck was already running at overload, and an unsettling smell of burning was coming from under the seat.

Maybe it will take more than ten minutes, or maybe it will be in the next second.

In short, it won't take too long before the vehicle engine will be forced to shut down under the high temperature. At that time, the only outcome waiting for the two will be death.

"Once those greedy mutant beasts set their sights on their prey, they will never give up."

Kano said, "We can't just go back to the tribe like this."

He turned the steering wheel sharply, and the vehicle turned around with a harsh friction sound. A wide red cliff appeared in O'Kelly's field of vision through the window full of yellow sand.

"That's where the Baal Fire Scorpion lives."

O'Kelly exclaimed.

The Baal Fire Scorpion is a terrifying beast that has mutated after radiation. Their size is not much different from that of the Foot-Bound Jaw.

What's more terrifying is that this beast appears in groups in most cases. Even the notorious mutant tribes in Baal II dare not easily provoke such beasts.

Baal Fire Scorpions have a strong sense of territory.

If the Foot-bound Jaw can be led to that cliff, perhaps there will be a chance to escape in the chaos.

"Angel bless us!"

O'Kelly clasped his hands together, his dark eyes staring at the silver pendant hanging on the top in front of him.

It was a human figure with wings spread out, showing a holy appearance.

There is a belief in angels on Baal, and this belief seems to have existed a long, long time ago. At that time, human colonists had not even landed on this planet, and the alien natives living there were already worshiping angels.

And now-

After countless time.

The natives who once lived here have long disappeared, and the once prosperous human colonists have been destroyed in the war between each other. The beautiful world like heaven has now become a cruel purgatory full of radioactive beasts and hideous mutants.

But the survivors still maintain their belief in angels.

To this day, angels have become a spiritual symbol of pure-blooded tribes.

People place their hopes on such an illusory image.

They hope that one day, just like what is described in the myth, a real angel can walk among the people and bring salvation and hope.

"Angel bless!"

Kano repeated in a low voice, and then the car stalled with a harsh friction sound.

"Damn it!" He slammed the steering wheel hard. Fortunately, they had arrived at the place where the Baal Fire Scorpions lived, and the situation was not particularly bad: "We have to leave here quickly."

Kano opened the car door.

Looking back, the figures of the beasts lingered like ghosts.

"But what about the car?" O'Kelly asked.

"Don't worry about it." Kano grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the car without saying anything. "As long as we can survive, there will always be a way to solve it."

They ran forward all the way.

Passing by a huge red stone on the cliff, they soon came to the nest where the Baal Fire Scorpions lived.

However——

What happened in front of them was beyond the ultimate imagination of the two.

The ground was full of corpses, and the Baal Fire Scorpions, which even the most brutal mutants had to avoid, were lying on the ground in a mess, like mice that were crushed.

The red reinforced carapace that was comparable to steel and could not be damaged by artillery fire was smashed downward by unimaginable violence and shattered. Hot blood flowed out from the cracks in the carapace, and the air was filled with the smell of hot rust.

On the body of the largest and most ferocious fire scorpion.

A slender girl with long golden hair and snow-white wings on her back was watching them.
