Chapter 114 Submachine Gun

The Mauser series rifles with 7.92mm caliber have been used as the German Army standard rifle since their birth in 1898, and the latest Mauser 98k began to be equipped with the army in 1935 and became the main rifle of Germany in World War II.

The Mauser 98k inherits the classic rotary pull-back bolt of the 98 series Mauser rifle, and the rear of the bolt is a safety device. The bullets are built in double rows of staggered magazines, and the bullets are loaded with 5-round magazines.

The Mauser 98k is a reliable and accurate rifle and is considered one of the best rotary pull-back rifles of WWII.

Yes, it's just a bolt action rifle!

Although the accuracy is high enough to be used as a sniper rifle, although the cost is quite low, and although the magazine is used to reduce the time loss of loading, it is still too backward after all!

Hearing Cyric's words, Scherner was even more angry: "Even if it is a stupid pig, it will not do the stupid thing of giving our armored division a Mauser rifle!"

When he was just reviewing the troops, Cyric had already seen that the troops were neat and tidy, and most of the soldiers were carrying Mauser rifles on their shoulders!

Not to mention the armored grenadiers, this scene is not harmonious.

As an armored force, because of the use of vehicle-mounted weapons such as artillery and machine guns, it has huge lethality to long-distance targets and is a powerful weapon for attacking fortifications.

However, armored vehicles are often attacked by various weapons at close range in complex terrain. Due to the limitations of the armored vehicle itself, it is slow to respond to attacks at close range.

For example, although there are two machine guns on the current tank, the dead angle of shooting is still very large.

Therefore, the tank needs to carry infantry to protect its safety, and the distance is generally within 150 meters. Germany needs to use weapons with a high rate of fire to project a large number of bullets at the enemy in a short period of time to stop the enemy!

However, the traditional Mauser rifle cannot achieve this purpose. From the point of view of the rate of fire, the rate of fire of a single-shot bolt-action rifle is too low! The firepower is too small!

So, in comparison, a submachine gun is suitable!

At first, when Cyric first came here, he used an MP18 submachine gun.

In the trench warfare of World War I, this weapon was called, and the submachine gun called the portable machine gun took to the stage. The use of pistol bullets and a very high rate of fire made this weapon the favorite weapon of the infantry.

Now, Germany is constantly improving submachine guns, and MP18/l, MP28/ll, MP34/l, MP35/l, and Irma submachine guns have appeared one after another, but these weapons still maintain the level of the First World War and have not developed much.

When you think of World War II, what is the first thing that comes to mind? The swastika flag flying high, the passionate Tiger tank, the Stuka bomber that fell from the sky, the MG42 light machine gun with a crisp sound, and the MP40 submachine gun equipped by the elite German troops!

Yes, it is the MP40 submachine gun! Compared with the MP18 submachine gun that was born out of the rifle, the MP38 and MP40 series submachine guns are completely different from the previous ones!

Historically, this submachine gun was first designed by Hugo Schmeisser in 1936 and developed at the Irma Arsenal to produce the MP36 submachine gun.

Compared with the famous MP38 submachine gun, the main difference in appearance is that the magazine of the MP36 submachine gun is inclined 30° to the left, which is convenient for the left hand to hold the magazine.

Later, in order to simplify production, the magazine was changed to a vertical design.

In 1938, after this submachine gun was improved, it was officially produced and named as the MP38 submachine gun.

This gun was born to meet the needs of German armored and paratroopers for automatic weapons in close-range assault operations and installed in the German army. After that, began its brilliant World War II career.

In the short and fierce Polish campaign, MP38 successfully protected the vulnerable Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 tanks and German armored vehicles in the face of the stubborn resistance of Polish soldiers. The Polish anti-tank soldiers were at a loss!

In order to further simplify the production process and improve production efficiency, this submachine gun was improved again in 1940. A large number of stamping and welding process parts replace the MP38 machining process parts, reducing costs.

At the same time, standardized parts are produced separately in each factory, and assembled in a unified manner in the final assembly plant, which is easy to mass-produce, and even some non-military enterprises can subcontract to produce parts, which has good processing economy and parts interchangeability. Since then, it has become a generation of famous guns and a symbol of Germany during World War II.

And now, it is only one year away from 36 years, and it is not beyond the times. At this time, assigning a task to the Elma Arsenal and providing support should be able to fiddle with this submachine gun without even needing any hints from yourself!

Similarly, this is a short-term plan. In the long run, there is still a firepower gap between Mauser rifles and submachine guns. This firepower gap is best undertaken by assault rifles that require intermediate power ammunition!

The development of AK series rifles similar to the later Soviet Union will also be the focus in the future. However, from now on, the development of MP38 series submachine guns is also very necessary.

After all, submachine guns already have ready-made items that can be improved, and for intermediate-power ammunition, you need to start from scratch.

Historically, in 1941, Germany successfully developed and began to produce 7.92×33mm rifle cartridges, and the length of the cartridge case was reduced from 57mm to 33mm from the original 7.92×57mm standard rifle cartridge.

At the same time, by 1943, the Soviet Union also successfully developed the 7.62×39mm M1943 bullet with the power and size of the intermediate bullet between the pistol bullet and the rifle bullet.

After that, small calibers became popular. The Soviet Union developed 5.45x39mm bullets in the 1970s, while Huaxia was 5.8x42mm DBP87 bullets, and NATO was 5.56x45mm NATO standard bullets.

So many kinds, which one is right? This requires several years of experimentation and judgment by military personnel before it can be finalized. Therefore, it is absolutely impossible to achieve it overnight. If you want to serve as soon as possible, it is still suitable for submachine guns.

After the selection is completed and similar assault rifles are developed in the future, the second-line troops, servants, artillery, transport troops and other indirect combatants who maintain law and order in the occupied area, the weapons and submachine guns equipped by these personnel are still good! Even if the troops are eliminated, they can still use it!

Therefore, after some thought, Cyric finally made a decision: "Since the Mauser rifle is not suitable, then we will equip our troops with a more proportion of submachine guns, and we need a new submachine gun to meet the our needs."
