War Palace and Knee Pillow, Austria’s Destiny

Chapter 21 Ambrose

Vienna, Schönbrunn Palace.

Today, a miscellaneous grand duke came here. He was about to become an observer sent to Brazil by the Austrian Army. One of the purposes of his trip was to bid farewell to the current patriarch of the Habsburg family.

His name was Karl Ambrosius, but as a country noble, poverty still limited his imagination.

So, when he first entered the palace, he got lost.

But as a member of the Habsburg family, he also had his own pride and could never bow to others.

And he looked around and soon attracted the pointing and commenting of the ladies and maids.

"Hey, who is this man?"

"You can tell at a glance that he is a country bumpkin."

"Although he is a country bumpkin, he is quite handsome. Who will keep him and let him see the world."

Then a group of women laughed together, but a sharp-eyed maid saw something and reminded.

"Look, that's the royal coat of arms."

Suddenly, the women who were still teasing just now immediately quieted down and dispersed.

Some people have given up, but some people are even more excited.

What they don't know is that Karl Ambrosius's family only has 150 acres of land, and they don't even have a carriage, which can't provide the kind of life they want.

Archduke Karl, the largest land noble in the Austrian Empire, owns 3 million acres of land, and the difference between the two is 20,000 times.

Ambrosius finally found someone to ask for directions. A young woman was walking towards him with a child under her arm.

Those who can do this in this palace must also be members of the royal family, Ambrosius thought so.

"Talia, can't you ride a horse? It's so uncomfortable to hold me like this." Franz complained.

"My little archduke, I'm just an unlucky tutor and nanny. If I ride a horse in the palace today, you can collect my body tomorrow. You can't get the money you win from me." Talia was annoyed by Franz, and her chest rose and fell.

Yesterday, Talia was notified that His Majesty the Emperor would meet Archduke Franz today.

Today, Talia came to Franz's room very early, and the latter said he wanted to take a nap.

Talia saw that it was still early and happily agreed, and then she fell asleep in Franz's room.

When Talia woke up, she found that the appointed time had passed.

So, she could only march quickly with Franz.

Talia was hurrying on the road, and suddenly a person flashed around the corner, knelt on one knee, stretched out his hand and held Talia's other hand, and said.

"Hello, this beautiful lady, I want to..."

Before the person finished speaking, Talia kicked the other person in the face.

"I don't want to! Goodbye."

"Talia, someone actually approached you." Franz teased.

"You dead kid." Talia strangled Franz.

". I just want to ask for directions, is it so difficult? The way of greeting taught by my father doesn't work." Ambrosius sighed.

Finally, the guard passing by told Ambrosius that the Hall of Mirrors was not in Schönbrunn Palace.

So, Ambrosius hurried to the Hall of Mirrors.

Inside the Hall of Mirrors, on the throne, sat an old man and a young man. The old one was Emperor Franz II, and the young one was the child he had just seen.

Franz waved to the unlucky guy in front of him.

Ambrosius was very excited to see the emperor and described his excitement.

However, Franz II was not interested in listening at all.

He was a little surprised when he took the resume handed over by the royal steward.

This country bumpkin who looked unkempt (his face was a little dirty because he was kicked by Talia) and had never seen much of the world, was rated so highly in the military academy.

What's even more incredible is that the person who made the evaluation was none other than the legendary figure in the Austrian military, Archduke Karl, his younger brother, and one of the people he hated most in the world.

Although Franz II and Archduke Karl were brothers who did not get along, he knew very well that his brother was too arrogant and would never praise anyone easily.

Being praised by Archduke Karl was enough to prove that the young man in front of him had extremely excellent abilities.

Franz also saw Archduke Karl's evaluation, and Franz still remembered Archduke Karl's evaluation of his eldest son Albrecht, "Giving him two armies is murder."

The implication was that Albrecht was only capable of commanding one army at most.

In history, Albrecht was a victorious general, and in the Battle of Custoza, he led 80,000 Austrian troops to defeat the 120,000 Italian troops commanded by King Victor Emmanuel II of Italy.

Being a military observer seemed to be a disgrace to him.

Military observers in Austria usually meant traveling at public expense.

After some thought, Franz II decided to follow the cabinet's opinion.

He was awarded the rank of major general and sent abroad as an army observer.

When Grand Duke Ambrose heard the result, he could not help but feel sad.

But it was already very good for him, if there was no such thin blood relationship.

I am afraid that the title of general without real power is also beyond his reach.

Most graduates of military academies have to start as captains, and he already has no idea how far ahead of others he is.

Ambrose had another purpose for this trip, which was to help him find a matchmaker.

His family was very poor, and it was impossible for him to marry a legitimate princess. His bloodline was not pure. If he married a commoner, his descendants would not even have the status of nobles.

Even though his family had fallen, he and his father still attached great importance to their own bloodline and could not accept the result that their descendants would no longer be nobles.

Of course, Ambrosius was also confident. He had very good grades in the military academy, and Archduke Karl also said that he would become a pillar of the Austrian Empire in the future.

Ambrosius felt that he was a general with a promising future. Although he had no money now, he had a very good future. In addition, he was also Archduke Karl's disciple.

However, Ambrosius also knew that His Majesty the Emperor and Archduke Karl were not in harmony, so he did not dare to bring up this relationship. He just asked the patriarch for help as a younger generation of the family.

However, Franz II did not care about Ambrosius's affairs.

He waved his hand, indicating that he could leave for his post.

But after walking two steps, Ambrosius stopped and turned back to say.

"For the sake of Queen Theresa, for the sake of God, please, Your Majesty, even if there is a disabled or sick princess."

Ambrosius's ancestors were descendants of Queen Theresa, so he had the status of a royal family member.

As for various countries, there are indeed some princesses with disabilities or diseases, but even so, their families will ask for a generous gift.

And Franz II happened to be a very stingy emperor (probably because he paid too much war reparations.)

Ambrosius's behavior surprised Franz. He couldn't understand how a good person suddenly became like this.

In fact, Franz underestimated people's obsession with status at that time.

Franz looked at Franz II in confusion, thinking, "Does Austria have a system of granting marriages in addition to the system of granting official positions?"

Franz II has seen a lot of such things and is no longer surprised.

Said slowly.

"You are still young, and the financial situation of the Austrian Empire is not good. Young people now have real talents and many big families are willing to provide a generous dowry for their daughters. You still need to work hard."

In short, just forget it, find someone who can give you money.

Ambrosius's disappointment was beyond words. He did not choose to continue to entangle, he chose to leave.

Looking at Ambrosius's back, Franz decided to help him.

Perhaps it is time to show the traditional skills of the Habsburg family. A brand new colonial plan emerged in Franz's mind.

This is a transition chapter, which paves the way for the subsequent plot. Please look forward to it.
