The Military-Industrial Scientific Research System of the Academic Master

Chapter 783: Hudong Shipyard's Trump Card

After all the interviews were over, Chang Haonan finally decided to recruit Li Yabo.

Firstly, after confirming the situation with Tang Lintian, he found that the young man was indeed very capable in all aspects, and secondly, he was indeed more compatible with Chang Haonan's temper.

There are only three points to recruit students.

Talent, ability, and character.

All of them are fine, and the rest is just a matter of liking.

Of course, Yao Mengna did not gain nothing.

In the subsequent interview, she had a very good chat with a girl named Wan Chuanqing.

The latter is from Jinling University, majoring in theoretical physics. Although she did not publish articles in her undergraduate stage like Li Yabo, her average score in professional courses was as high as a terrifying 97.3 points, and she also won the first prize in the National Physics Competition, which was only one step away from entering the International Olympiad training team.

Logically speaking, such a student with great potential still attends a strong science school like Jinling University, and generally either goes abroad for further studies or continues to study for a master's degree at the same school.

But Wan Chuanqing wanted to switch from science to engineering, and enter a more application-oriented direction - in fact, this is also the choice of a large number of science students when they are studying for a master's degree.

That's why he wanted to apply for Beijing Aerospace University, which has been gaining popularity in recent years.

As a new tutor, Yao Mengna also happened to hope that she could make progress in theoretical foundations.

So the needs of the two complemented each other, and they hit it off.

In addition to these two people, two other students expressed their willingness to join the Torch Laboratory as students of other tutors in the same research group without being recruited by Chang Haonan himself.

Chang Haonan kept their resumes and application materials, and planned to let Liu Fangping and Lei Zhixing make their own decisions after they returned from a business trip to Shanghai.

Of course, during the waiting time, these students can still continue to contact other schools and tutors.

It's a two-way choice.

As long as it's not finalized, you can keep a backup.

Although there were only five people, the interview lasted almost the entire morning.

When the two finally made a decision after some discussion, it was almost lunch time.

"I didn't expect it..."

Chang Haonan, who got up early and rushed to school, stood up and stretched his body, making a crackling sound in his joints:

"At first, I thought that with a new research group like ours and a new teacher, students would be more cautious when making the final decision..."

His own extremely dazzling experience can certainly attract many people to submit resumes on impulse.

But as we all know, a good researcher may not be a good mentor.

Therefore, Chang Haonan thought that after a period of "cooling off", the enthusiasm of students would fade a little.

However, it turned out not to be the case.

Among the five people who came for the interview, four said that as long as they could join the Torch Laboratory, they would have no problem changing their mentor.

This ratio is quite exaggerated.

"Why don't you eat meat?"

Yao Mengna also stood up, gathered the scattered materials on the table and put them into her bag, then simply tied her hair into a long ponytail:

"How many research groups are worried about having no money and no projects, and graduate students can't graduate with results. We are in a good situation. The school-enterprise cooperation guarantees at least several million research funds every year, plus the special funds for land, equipment purchase and site construction approved by Beijing. Anyone can see that at least in the next few years, there is no shortage of money or resources. Even the research group of academicians may not be so arrogant."

"What's more, the school-enterprise cooperation means that there will be more ways to find employment after graduation. As a teacher, can you still watch your students starve to death?"

"With these conditions, let alone just letting them change their mentors, even if there is no mentor, as long as they can graduate, there are countless people who are willing to come."

After Yao Mengna's explanation, Chang Haonan thought about it and felt that it was really the case.

After all, there are many supervisors who only care about recruiting students but not training them, or even just throw the research topics to students.

In other words, even if there is no guidance from the supervisor, it is highly likely that graduation will not be affected.

But if there is no topic and funding, there is really no hope.

Liu Fangping and Lei Zhixing did not let Chang Haonan wait too long.

A few days after the interview, the two returned to Beijing Airlines before November.

"These are the resumes of the two students I mentioned to you before. Take a closer look when you go back."

Chang Haonan took out two envelopes from the drawer and put them on the desk:

"Teacher Yao and I have interviewed them a few days ago and didn't find any major problems. If you have anything else you want to know, you can call and ask in detail."

Recruiting students is the first time for the two of them, so they can't adapt to the change of identity for a while, and just put away the two envelopes in a daze.

Chang Haonan was not in a hurry to urge the two to make a decision. After all, keeping the two files was just a casual decision.

Even if you miss it, you can wait until the postgraduate entrance examination results come out, and then transfer from the students who have entered the interview.

Therefore, he changed the subject and went straight to the point:

"Tell me about what you have learned from Hudong during this period."

Lei Zhixing and Liu Fangping looked at each other, and the former spoke first:

"The cargo tank using the Gas-Transport storage system has a five-layer structure of the bulkhead insulation layer, from the inside to the outside, which are the main membrane 0.7 mm Invar steel plate, the main wooden box with a thickness of about 10cm filled with perlite powder, the secondary membrane 0.7 mm Invar steel plate, the secondary wooden box filled with perlite powder with a thickness of about 15cm, and a resin layer about 2-3mm thick."

"Because there are two layers of Invar steel plates, compared with the Technigaz system that only uses Invar steel in the innermost layer, which is the technical route chosen by Samsung Offshore, the thickness, weight and cost of the entire cabin are greater. This is a limitation of the physical structure and cannot be improved."

"..."

While listening to Lei Zhixing's description, Chang Haonan thought about feasible solutions.

As a metal layer with a very low thickness, the invar steel layer obviously does not have the ability to insulate heat, but it can bring better air tightness.

In this way, the performance of the Gas-Transport system and the Technigaz system in terms of transport dissipation is basically the same.

However, the latter has thinner and lighter bulkheads. Under the premise of transporting the same amount of LNG, the displacement of the ship can be made smaller, and the cost is lower, which is a huge advantage for shipowners.

The structural strength redundancy brought by the double-layer invar steel of the Gas-Transport system can also be compensated by the more mature shipbuilding technology of Samsung Offshore Engineering.

At least part of it.

This is a bit like a large passenger plane.

In the era when aviation technology was not well developed, transoceanic passenger planes were required to have four engines to provide sufficient power backup to prevent the destruction of the plane and the death of people due to engine failure during flight.

However, with the development of aviation technology, twin-engine passenger planes were later allowed to fly transoceanic routes.

Although the reliability of twin engines is still lower than that of four engines, the slight safety gap is not enough to make up for the huge cost increase brought by two more engines.

Therefore, by the time before Chang Haonan was reborn, wide-body twin-engine passenger aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 had almost completely replaced giants such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380.

However, for some aircraft models that require absolute reliability, such as VIP aircraft, nuclear war command aircraft, and large tankers, the four-engine platform still has its own place.

In the field of LNG ship liquid cargo tank technology, the Gas-Transport system is equivalent to a four-engine aircraft, and the Technigaz system is equivalent to a twin-engine aircraft.

If the former wants to prove the significance of its existence, it must find a way to make up for its shortcomings-

On the one hand, it must reduce the cost of use as much as possible, and on the other hand, it must find a way to play to its strengths.

When you think of this level, the answer is obvious.

"My idea is."

After Lei Zhixing introduced the specific situation, Chang Haonan spoke almost immediately:

"In any case, the storage container cannot be completely insulated, so liquefied natural gas will inevitably evaporate and dissipate during transportation. On current LNG ships, this part of the gas is either directly emptied or burned. The better ones can recycle part of it into the power system, but the power system uses too little gas to consume all the boil-off gas (BOG), and a considerable part of it will still be lost."

"Then, we can integrate a complete set of boil-off gas reliquefaction system inside the cargo tank bulkhead system, so that the evaporation loss during transportation can be reduced as much as possible, or even almost completely eliminated, and achieve higher transportation efficiency than the Technigaz system."

"Of course, the Technigaz system still has advantages in hull specifications, that is, construction costs, but after making up for some of the use costs, it should be able to get at least some guaranteed orders from the GTT Group."

Listening to Chang Haonan's ideas, Lei Zhixing and Liu Fangping didn't even know how to answer for a while.

After a while, the latter said:

"Professor Chang, on LNG ships, the bulkhead of the cargo tank must be included in the overall consideration of the ship's structural safety design. If you rashly make a fuss here... the risk may be quite large..."

Chang Haonan just nodded lightly:

"Of course there are risks, but Gas-Transport has excess safety redundancy compared to Technigaz, which is equivalent to us converting part of the safety that exceeds user needs into economic efficiency. In fact, this is also the main reason why the Technigaz system can currently occupy an advantage."

"Since Hudong has already bet on Gas-Transport and cannot change direction, we can only follow this idea for now."
