Chapter 92: On the Pirate Ship

History has deviated from its original trajectory due to Andre's intervention.

In fact, the Vigilant did suffer an accident in history, which was also caused by the conspiracy of the deputy captain Sabirin. However, it happened when the ship was undergoing maintenance in Riga, the capital of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic.

On the same day of November 8, 1976, at 19:00, Sablin reported to the captain, Lieutenant Commander Portuline, and lied that something unusual had happened on the ship. When he and the captain walked to the bottom of the ship, with the help of the sailors, he suddenly closed the hatch, isolating the captain from the crew.

Then, Sablin summoned other personnel on the warship and suggested that the "Vigilance" be driven to Kronstadt, a fortress near Leningrad, and declared it an independent territory to call on the Soviets. At 23:30 that evening, Vrsov cleverly avoided the surveillance of Sablin's accomplices, secretly jumped into the cold sea, swam to the B-49 submarine anchored in Riga Port, and reported to the Riga base headquarters.

Unfortunately, no one believed him at the time, and no one took control of the Alert.

After Sablin learned that Vrsov had escaped, he decided to drive the "Vigilance" to the sea in advance. The next day, at 2:50 a.m. on November 9, under Sablin's command, the "Vigilance" sailed out of the Gulf of Riga and sailed along the Daugava River towards the Baltic Sea at a speed of 30 knots. At this time, the people at the Riga base knew that something had really happened.

Four hours later, Brezhnev, who was awakened from his sleep in the Kremlin, issued an order: "Sink it!"

The Soviet 15th Air Army received the order and dispatched Yak-28, Tu-16 bombers and Su-24 attack aircraft. Unfortunately, they accidentally bombed a civilian ship and a patrol ship that was responsible for the pursuit mission.

Finally, 30 sailors who opposed the defection successfully rescued the trapped officers and Captain Portulin. After a fierce battle between the two sides, Sabine was injured by Portulin, and the defection was finally stopped.

Now, due to Andrei's time travel, the Soviet high-level officials made preparations in advance and decided to transfer the Sentinel to the Pacific Fleet. In this way, Sabine's operations on the Sentinel were carried out in the Baltic Sea.

In this way, the Baltic Fleet did not even notice that anything had happened to the Alert. Although the daily routine radio contact was lost, they only thought that the radio equipment on the Alert was malfunctioning. After all, surface ships are not submarines, and there is generally no risk as long as there is no big storm.

Although Vrsov wanted to escape, he had no chance. Jumping into the cold sea would have meant death. It was not until the Sentinel was about 100 kilometers away from Leningrad and closer to the shore that he dared to jump and escape.

After discovering Vrsov's escape, Sablin stopped sailing and decided to launch an "uprising" at this unknown little dock and send a telegram to the whole country.

Unfortunately, at this moment, two unrelated people came up.

"Andrei Vladimirvich Tolstoy?" After Andrei boarded the warship, he was invited to a room on the bridge. Here, he met the captain of the warship. The captain looked at Andrei's ID again and the other party's voice was full of respect: "Are you the hero who bravely defended our airspace in the Far East a few months ago and crashed into an American reconnaissance plane?"

"It's me." Andrei didn't know that he had a good reputation in the navy. He looked at the friendly captain in front of him and said, "This is my nephew Ivan. He wants to visit the warship. Sorry to bother you. By the way, I wonder why you are anchored here?"

Andre was also very curious about the warship in front of him. After all, it was dozens of kilometers away from the Kronstadt base, and there was no naval base there. Why did it stop in such a remote place? Was the ship broken?

"Our gas turbine has malfunctioned and we can't continue sailing. We are waiting here for repairs." Sablin said. Any excuse could cover up the past. What he needed to do now was to ask the other party what they thought about the current problems in the Soviet Union. If their ideas were close to his own, he could encourage them. If they firmly defended the interests of the current top leaders, he would temporarily imprison him!

If a Soviet hero stood up to state the ills of society, it would be more appealing! Unfortunately, he omitted the little kid who had been looking around. If he knew the relationship between the little kid and Andropov, he would never put these two people on the boat.

Before Sablin opened his mouth, Andrei became excited: "Gas turbine? Then our warship must be the 1135-class Haiyan, right? Gas turbines are really powerful. After starting, they can reach maximum speed in a few minutes. The maneuverability is quite good, especially suitable for quickly occupying positions during anti-submarine operations. It is much better than the slow steam turbine. By the way, what is the number of our warship?"

Now, in the Soviet Navy's equipment sequence, the only ship with a displacement comparable to this warship and driven by a gas turbine is the Petrel class. Andrei reacted instantly and asked the person in front of him.

"We are the Vigilance." Sablin said. How could the other party be so familiar with naval equipment? Wasn't he from the Air Defense Force?

The Sentinel! Andrei's smile froze instantly. This warship was famous in history. After all, it was notorious in several major defection incidents in the Soviet Union. After the incident, the warship was incorporated into the Pacific Fleet and downgraded to a frigate, and its hull number was also changed.

And the time is just right with the historical time! Originally, Andre was a little puzzled when he didn't hear about the incident in Riga, but now...

"I am the captain of this warship, Major Sabine." The other party continued to introduce himself, seemingly not noticing Andre's sudden change in expression.

"Ivan, let's go back." Andrei said to little Ivan, "Aunt has prepared dinner, we should go home."

Sabine! Andre also remembered this name, of course. This guy imprisoned the captain and planned to drive the warship to... Some said it was Sweden, which was a typical defection, while another said it was to Leningrad, intending to "awaken" the sleeping people and reform society!

In any case, Andrei was not going to get involved in this mess, and little Ivan was there! If little Ivan got into trouble with him, Andrei could almost imagine how furious Andropov would be, and he would lose his status in front of Andropov. After all, Ekaterina was just a sister to Irina, and she was not Andropov's biological daughter.
