Chapter 125: Humiliation in the Dark
"Is this a house elf?" Hermione screamed.
These ugly, dirty, rat-like creatures in front of her obviously broke the girl's cognition. Hermione didn't care much about Dobby, and their attention was focused on magic.
However, when a group of little things dressed similarly to Dobby looked at you with confused eyes.
That kind of spiritual shock is indeed inevitable.
Ugly, this is the most basic feature of house elves. You can't imagine what these little things have experienced.
The thick smoke dyed the walls black, and at the same time, their bodies were almost the same color as the smoke.
There was no trace of spirit in countless pairs of eyes. Due to the lack of sunlight for many years, their eyes have degenerated a little, and they are turbid and yellow.
Because of the strong light, every house elf who opened his eyes and looked at the door half-closed his eyes, and they had to spend more time to adapt to the sudden light.
"They are so pitiful..." Hermione couldn't bear to look at these little things in front of her, so she closed her eyes and held Fanlin's hand tightly with one hand.
"Let's ask!" Fanlin gently pinched Hermione, indicating to reassure the girl, and then nodded to Harry.
"Excuse me..." Fanlin's words were interrupted by the behavior of the group of house elves in front of him before he finished speaking.
It seemed that they had adapted to the light, or they heard the words of the wizard. In short, their dull nerves finally gave them instructions on the behavior of a house elf.
"Please wait, gentlemen and ladies, the food will be ready soon!" An old house elf bowed deeply to the four people.
The other elves seemed to react as well, and they all stopped their work, bowed to the four people respectively, and then ignored them.
Light the lights, and the torches on the wall lit up.
The four people could see the layout of the kitchen thoroughly, a rectangular wooden table with two dim candles on it.
An elf who had just crawled out of the ground had a clean rag that he did not know where it came from, and was now wiping the tables and chairs that had not been touched for a long time.
Fanlin also saw a particularly old elf whose clothes were set on fire by the fire when he was making a fire.
They usually would not make mistakes, but perhaps today's unexpected visitor broke the silence of the elves' lives. They had not served wizards in person for a long time.
Fanlin quickly used his magic power to condense a water ball and put out the fire on the elf!
But the elf knelt in front of Fanlin in panic, as if he thought that because of his mistake, the four wizards in front of him were going to kill them.
He knelt on the ground and kept begging Fanlin not to kill him. Even if Fanlin tried to persuade him kindly, it was useless. The old house elf did not stop his begging.
"Please, you didn't do anything wrong..."
"Don't kill me... I beg you... Old Gus won't make mistakes again, just please..." The elf said, and tears as big as beans flowed from his dim eyes, looking very pitiful.
"Old Thor, stand up." Harry's face suddenly became ferocious, and he said to Gus viciously: "If you keep crying and not going to work like this, I will kill you!"
Fan Lin and the other two looked at Harry in shock. They couldn't figure out what kind of heart drove Harry to say such words.
"Yes, sir!" The elf Gus seemed to be frightened and got up from the ground in a panic, as if he was afraid of death. In fact, they were just afraid that they had done something wrong. As for death, this might just be a reason for begging.
"Don't look at me like that..." Harry was a little flustered, "I just want him to stop this behavior, at least it's useful, isn't it?"
"Hey, brother, how did you think of it." Ron seemed to have suddenly realized, "Maybe we can deal with Dobby in this way."
"In fact," Harry said helplessly, "I have already done so, but unfortunately, Dobby is indeed an outlier."
Harry gestured back and forth with his hands, as if Dobby was right in front of him, "He was there at the time, I threatened him with death, but Dobby actually told me that he was threatened at least five times a day."
"Maybe we should think of a way to rescue Dobby from the Malfoy family. The Malfoy family doesn't accept Dobby's service at all. Maybe I can introduce Dobby to old Vitor, at least he can live more comfortably there, and there are new clothes to wear."
"What a good suggestion, Vanlin!" Hermione said, and calmly pulled her hand out of Vanlin's hand, which made the girl's face a little red.
"There is another very important question, how can we liberate an enslaved house-elf, and the lives of these house-elves must be improved." Hermione said righteously. She didn't understand why there would be such a thing as enslaving house-elves in the wizarding world with magic and everything was so convenient.
"Forget it, Hermione!" Ron said indifferently, "This is impossible. No wizard will care about these house-elves. If you really do this, they will definitely think that they have done something wrong and punish themselves."
"How could it be." Hermione didn't dare to believe what Ron said.
"Can you try?" Ron spread his hands, indicating that Hermione could do it.
"Let's try!" Hermione said stubbornly, covering her mouth with one hand. Looking at the busy house elves in front of her, she cleared her throat vigorously.
"You...you listen to me," Hermione said reluctantly.
Hearing Hermione's words, all the house elves stopped their work and looked at Hermione blankly. They didn't understand what these sudden wizards in front of them were thinking.
"Listen... Stop your work and stand here. I want to clean you up. And..." Hermione really didn't know what the house elves needed. "You should protest to Dumbledore and let him allow you to leave here and go out more often, during the day, not at night! Also, I think you should have your own life, you should at least have the freedom you deserve!"
Hermione finally finished speaking. She was very satisfied with what she had just said, although she didn't know what she said. She was not good at speaking.
After a while, the slow-witted elf finally understood what Hermione meant.
Hermione's words were like a huge tear gas bomb, which exploded in this not very spacious Hogwarts kitchen, this cold place.
All the elves knelt down in the nearest place, they kept crying and begged Hermione to let them go. (To be continued)
