Chapter 146: Planned in Advance
In Washington DC, in the office building of the National Security Council, Nick Fury was standing in the center of the venue with a serious face, surrounded by twelve members of the Security Council.
The current S.H.I.E.L.D. is also subject to special supervision by the Security Council, and the budget and special bills of S.H.I.E.L.D. are determined through this agency.
"Our world is under threat." This is Nick Fury's opening remarks. As the most powerful country in the world, some officials are noncommittal about this statement.
Nick ignored the others, he continued. "Our world is constantly under threat, and I'm sure you all know that."
"There are many forces in this world that we cannot control, and some people can even easily destroy the earth." Nick's expression was serious, and the only useful eye was shining with a fierce light.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm not scaremongering." Nick motioned everyone to listen carefully to him.
"Our world is facing many problems, many things we cannot explain, many unsolved mysteries that we do not know."
"A certain trench that our best submarine can't go deep into. Every time our submarine is dragged back from that trench, there is only a pile of scrap metal."
"The photos of the ruins sent back by the space agency from Saturn's satellite let us know that there used to be a higher civilization living there, and what happened to them, so that a higher civilization disappeared in the solar system."
"How splendid their civilization was, whether they ever set foot on the earth, whether they left footprints on our planet."
"Those are all in the past tense. Maybe that civilization has been extinct for thousands of years. We should not worry about history. It may be war or disease. These may make that civilization disappear." A member of the Security Council A member interrupts Nick's speech.
"Yes, war or disease. What kind of war and disease!" Nick said suddenly and loudly.
"Is it a cosmic war across the galaxy? Is it a terrible disease that can spread in the universe?!" Nick's words sounded a bit alarmist.
"Everyone, we are not alone in the universe. There are not only suspicious extraterrestrial creatures, but even things on Earth that we cannot understand." Nick emphasized.
"Are you saying that you were attacked by a giant bat and lost almost a Helicarrier?" an official said.
At the same time, I used the projection device that I carried with me, which was only as big as a USB flash drive, to project and play on the wall.
The content played was the last time Nick Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D. was attacked by the flaming bat transformed by Dickon Firth.
Nick's face twitched a little, these things should not be taken by the Security Council.
"Director Nick, although I don't want to say it, it is clear that you have hidden a lot from us." The official who played the video said.
He looked very sharp-eyed, and although his head was covered with white hair, he was still full of energy. His words were sharp and pointed at Nick's vitals.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. itself should be under our supervision, but you, Director Nick, have overstepped your authority many times."
"We were not informed about the fact that the vampire bible was false, nor was the subsequent fight with the flaming bats reported to the Security Council."
"What else are you hiding? I heard that you found a magical prop? Why didn't you inform us." The old man's words were aggressive.
Nick Fury looked around and found that many people were whispering, he said loudly. "I have informed Mr. Bujuno, a member of the Security Council, about the Vampire Bible, and then I have also informed His Excellency the President."
"We all think that the fewer people who know about this matter, the better. As for the issue of the flaming bat, I believe that the report is on everyone's desks. It's just that we gathered here for a meeting today, and you don't have time to read it."
"As for the mysterious little props you mentioned, I'm sorry. Maybe you should change to an intelligence officer. Not everyone can spy on the secrets of S.H.I.E.L.D." Nick Fury said righteous words.
"Okay everyone, we are here for a meeting to discuss, not to quarrel." Bujunuo stood up and smoothed things over.
"Please restrain yourself, Nick Fury should be the most competent S.H.I.E.L.D. commander for so many years, and we should trust him."
Bujunuo's words were agreed by other people, and the whispering voice quieted down.
"Please continue, Nick." Bujunuo signaled Nick to continue.
"Continuing the topic just now, I think we need an extraordinary defense force to protect us." Nick finally got to the point.
"To solve some problems and enemies that cannot be solved by conventional means."
"The kidnapping of Tony Stark by the Ten Rings Gang in New York last time has already made us lose face. The Ten Rings Gang, which was beaten by the God of Spears in China, appeared on the streets of New York in a big way."
"I believe this incident will make the leaders of the Divine Spear Bureau sneer at us for a whole year, and the Divine Spear Bureau has organized its own special team."
"We should also organize one, in order to deal with emergencies." Nick's words caused everyone present to fall into a brief silence, because what Nick said had actually been tried before.
"So what are your plans, Nick? Who are your candidates?" a member of the Security Council asked.
"I have already sent someone to look for Bruce Banner, and I believe that it will not be long before I get the news." Nick first named the first candidate.
"Tony Stark, whose father was once the founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he has extraordinary talents, and his steel armor and rich knowledge reserve will make him another excellent candidate."
"The outstanding agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hawkeye and Black Widow, will also enter this list." Nick continued.
"But such power is not enough, it is still too weak." A member questioned. "What can these people alone do?"
"It's not just these people. We should expand the scale of our work. It's time for us, gentlemen, to let go of our prejudices. I propose to rebuild the X-Men." Nick's words were astonishing.
"No! Impossible." A voice called out.
"You're crazy! You forget how much trouble they've caused." It was a female member, screaming as if someone had stepped on her foot.
"No, absolutely not, mutants are too dangerous!" This was another old voice, and there was a kind of fear in his tone.
"Quiet, everyone, be quiet." Nick Fury shouted loudly, motioning for everyone to be quiet.
"You have to know that mutants are a threat, Nick Fury." The old man who had been questioning Nick just now said again.
"Don't forget, we once tried to form a mutant team."
"Yes, I know, the original X-Men, the Professor, Beast and a few others." Nick deliberately left out certain names.
"Other people? Ha! Well, even if it's someone else." The old man seemed a little angry, he thought he was being teased.
"Don't forget what the Hellfire Club did. They started a war and almost destroyed the world!" Along with the roar of the old man, there were other voices of approval.
"But don't forget that mutants are also the ones who saved the war." Nick argued.
"Remember, it is Captain America who saves the war!" These words were uttered forcefully by the blond old man. "Mutants are just making up for their merits and demerits, they are not worthy of being heroes."
Nick Fury feels a deep sense of frustration, and even someone in his position still often feels powerless.
In fact, it should be said that it is precisely because he is in this position that he is more likely to feel powerless and restrained everywhere. And there will always be countless pairs of eyes staring at him, and countless wolves staring at his position.
For example, the information given by the old man just now is obviously that there are nails in S.H.I.E.L.D., which makes Nick almost passive.
A man in his position must have great convictions, and a firmness of heart that is not easily shaken. Otherwise, once the heart fluctuates, it will definitely cause the whole situation to fester.
Why didn't he know that mutants are not so easy to control, especially in an era when the whole society is against mutants.
Mutants are dangerous in many ways, one is the ability to not control themselves, and this kind of people is the most. They will always unintentionally release their abilities and hurt others.
This made many people keep mutants at arm's length and start to feel intimidated and isolated.
And it is the generation of this kind of emotion that makes the psychology of many mutants start to twist, because they can't simply make friends.
Even unable to find a normal job, these circumstances make the social status of mutants even more embarrassing. Then because there is no regular job.
In order to survive, many mutants have embarked on the road of crime.
And because of this kind of problem, the society is more alienated and excluded from them. This creates a horrific vicious cycle.
The U.S. government tried to use the power of mutants back then, and they formed a secret team to fight against supernatural forces.
But the ending was tragic, and because of it, it also gave birth to a terrible leader of the mutant revolution, and he led the mutant brotherhood.
Nick Fury made this opinion today not on a whim, but because he really felt that he had too few cards in his hands, and more and more problems and pressures would be on him in the future. He was afraid that if he could not control it, he would collapse.
He suddenly felt a little envious of the sine of the Spear Game. The cards in his hand were much better than his own. At least the Chinese government allowed the formation of a mutant team.
And the X-Men can only be a non-staff organization, not even a non-staff organization, and they have to take the blame from time to time.
"Director Nick, we need to be more cautious about rebuilding the X-Men." Even Bujuno, who has always supported Nick, spoke cautiously.
"You should broaden your horizons and try to find other candidates. Regarding the Avengers plan you submitted, we have temporarily approved it, but you still need to submit the list of candidates in the end."
"I see." Nick's one-eyed was a little unwilling, and this world was probably more dangerous than these people knew, which was his intuition. "My most important candidate, I still need to wait until the exploration near the North Pole has progressed before I can submit it."
It is impossible for the issue of mutants to remain unresolved. When the conflict really breaks out, it may not simply end.
In the original timeline, Nick would have more time. And the cards in his hand are even stronger.
But because a certain butterfly keeps flapping its wings, the current world line is becoming more and more chaotic. Especially this butterfly is getting stronger and stronger, in which direction will he lead the world?
"Your Excellency, will the new bill be released publicly as previously scheduled." The Secretary of the White House asked the most powerful leader of the country.
"Everything is going according to plan." Without any extra words, the president ordered.
Walking out of Matt's lawyer's office, Li Jie felt that he had accomplished another major event. Attorney Matt expressed his willingness to accept becoming the legal counsel of the new company.
The winter sun shone warmly on his body, and Li Jie's footsteps became much lighter as he stepped on the slightly icy clumps on the ground.
