Chapter 12 Trust
Agdabia is an important town in central Libya.
To its north is the famous port of Brega in Libya... From the map, we can see that the coastline of Libya is like a "U"-shaped bay formed by Brega Port, and Brega Port is at the bottom of the "U"-shaped bay.
To its south is the desert hinterland with no boundaries and extremely harsh environment. There are no people and no water sources for hundreds of miles. Not to mention the troops, even the locals who are familiar with the terrain and accustomed to the desert climate find it difficult to get out alive.
As a result, Agdabia has become the gateway to western Libya and even to Tripoli, the capital of Libya. It has been a battleground for military strategists since ancient times.
This is also the reason why the British arranged two regiments here. They obviously wanted to occupy this strategic location to stop the pursuit of the German and Italian troops.
But the British army's idea was just wishful thinking... It was not the Italian army that came to this city, but the German army, chasing the British army with high morale all the way.
"Forward!"
With an order, groups of German soldiers lying behind the sand dunes stood up. They pointed their guns downwards, bent slightly, and moved cautiously towards Agdabia City step by step in a scattered formation.
Qin Chuan was one of them. There were German soldiers everywhere in front and behind him. Their boots made a "crackling" sound on the sand under their feet, just like the wind blowing through the rice fields... This could give Qin Chuan courage, because it could tell him that the German army had sufficient manpower.
However, in front of the white buildings in Agdabia City, Qin Chuan still felt that he was completely exposed to the enemy's firepower. Maybe there was a black muzzle pointed at him in any corner of the wall...When Qin Chuan thought of this, his scalp felt numb.
"Woo!" A bomb flew in the sky with a sharp whistle, from far to near, and then hit the nearby sand and exploded.
The German formation was not in chaos, but the pace of the army could not help but speed up. At the same time, the tanks also rushed to the front over the infantry, and the "creaking" sound of the tracks made Qin Chuan more nervous.
After a while, there were more and more artillery fire, some from the British army and some from the German artillery, and the sound of the artillery fire in the air. The German army's pace of advancement also became faster and faster, and soon it became a trot.
There was nothing along the way, there were no enemies or tanks, and the British army seemed to have disappeared. If it weren't for the sound of artillery in the air, Qin Chuan would have thought that the British army had abandoned the town.
Getting closer and closer... Qin Chuan was so nervous that he could hear his own breathing.
Suddenly, Qin Chuan saw several black gun muzzles sticking out of the small holes in the building, so he hurriedly shouted: "Lie down!"
The comrades who heard the warning nearby lay down one after another, but the German soldiers who were a little further away were charging forward at the speed of a 100-meter sprint...
The dense gunfire soon rang out, and the German soldiers who rushed to the front fell to the ground like wooden stakes.
During this interval, Qin Chuan noticed that several of his comrades looked back at him. Obviously, they realized that if Qin Chuan hadn't reminded them just now, they would have been the same as those soldiers who fell in a pool of blood.
Qin Chuan didn't have time to pay attention to these, because he knew that the British army's "gun muzzle" was right above his head. After the British army dealt with those more conspicuous targets, they would soon focus on the people lying on the ground.
So Qin Chuan raised his rifle and aimed at the opposite side without saying a word.
"Bang!" A bullet shot into the hole in the wall.
The reason why this hole in the wall became Qin Chuan's first target was that it was larger than other holes in the wall.
A large hole in the wall means better aiming and easier to hit the shooter behind it.
More importantly... British shooters are not fools. They will not dig the hole in the wall for no reason. They know that this will bring more danger to themselves.
So, there is only one reason for doing this: it is a machine gun, and the machine gun needs a larger space to set up the tripod and aim and fire.
Sure enough, the enemy's firepower immediately weakened a lot after this bullet was fired.
"Bang!" Another bullet came out of the chamber.
Before firing this bullet, Qin Chuan turned over, because he found it very strenuous to lie on the ground and keep his head up to shoot, so he rolled over and put the rifle on the body of a German soldier.
Before this, Qin Chuan would never think of using the bodies of his comrades as cover and foreshadowing, because he thought it was disrespectful to his sacrificed comrades and he couldn't do it.
However, at this moment, Qin Chuan had no choice at all, because he sensitively noticed that the muzzle was aimed at him... As mentioned before, the "Enfield" rifle has a much faster firing rate than the K98K. Once the enemy is aimed at it, and it is still at such a close distance, then Qin Chuan can only use everything he can to hide himself and eliminate the enemy as quickly as possible. Otherwise, he will become a cold corpse.
This time, Qin Chuan succeeded again, because he saw that the rifle hung down from the hole in the wall and hung on the wall weakly, and it was obvious that its owner had lost the ability to control it.
"Bang!", Qin Chuan pulled the trigger again.
This time, Qin Chuan knocked down a British soldier who was pulling a flaming grenade.
Qin Chuan knew this because he noticed that the rifle in the hole in the wall was pulled back... There was no need to pull back the rifle to change the magazine, and the enemy hiding behind the hole in the wall did not need to move to another place after each shot.
There was only one reason for doing this, that is, he was going to throw a grenade from the hole in the wall.
Qin Chuan seized the opportunity. He aimed at the hole in the wall and waited for two seconds. This was to give the target time to pull the grenade.
Then Qin Chuan pulled the trigger...
Qin Chuan was sure that he had hit the target, otherwise a grenade with green smoke would have been thrown out of the hole in the wall.
After waiting for a few more seconds, there was a loud "bang"... It was not just the grenade that exploded, but the grenade caused the ammunition to explode.
Almost every gap and hole in the building was spewing flames, the fragile roof collapsed, and several British soldiers were thrown out of the window and fell to the ground without knowing whether they were dead or alive.
"Oh wow!" Looking at the building that was still burning, Big Bear, who was holding a machine gun, couldn't help shouting: "Well done, Frick, you saved our lives!"
Those comrades who had doubted whether Qin Chuan could take on the heavy responsibility turned back and looked at Qin Chuan in shock, including Paul. There was guilt, relief, surprise, and admiration for Qin Chuan in their eyes.
"Keep going!" the baker ordered, "Don't forget this is a battlefield, there are many enemies waiting for us ahead!"
"Yes, Sergeant!" The soldiers responded, and one by one they got up from the ground with their guns and followed.
Qin Chuan found that their movements were more crisp, more agile and more determined.
What's more, they seemed to have formed a whole, as if they were connected by a thread... This is a feeling that cannot be explained, but it does exist.
Perhaps, this is trust, trust between comrades!
