Warhammer: From Planetary Governor

Chapter 7 Cruel Taxation

The Empire's taxation is divided into four classes and sixteen levels.

Except for the fourth class, which is specially tax-free and has only one level.

The other three classes have five small levels, namely primary, intermediate, superior, advanced, and special.

The tax levels of the first to third classes correspond to different levels of worlds.

For example, the civilized world, the agricultural world, the hive world, the wild world, and even the low-level death world.

The forging world, the religious world, the extinction world, and some worlds with special permission often do not have to pay taxes.

Ers is rich in minerals. In terms of development, it can be regarded as a low-level hive world at most, corresponding to the second-level special tax.

Now the Ministry of the Interior has adjusted the tax level of Ers to the first-level superior, which has been raised by three levels. It can be said to be crazy!

This means that Ers needs to send countless people to mine day and night, squeeze every bit of resources on the planet, and even bleed into rivers, in order to barely pay taxes.

The eleventh tax also includes population resources.

The number of people who need to be paid for the first-level superior tax is huge. In other words, he has to pay at least one-tenth of the planet's population!

Such a heavy tithe, if it is paid a few times, even if the civilization of Ers is not destroyed, it will be almost.

And that is just an ideal state, whether the tax can be collected is also a problem.

The most likely result is that the rebels rush into the royal court area and kill Ron, the planetary governor.

But it is useless to cut it off, the taxes must be paid, and the people of Ers still cannot escape the fate of suffering.

Unless the Holy Terra Ministry of the Interior can reassess and change the tax level.

"This is going to kill people..."

Looking at the mechanical servants who are busy and repetitive in the document library, Ron feels inexplicably cold.

This tax must not be paid!

Ron pressed the call button on the table, and soon the elderly government official Old Mike came over and bowed.

"Governor, do you have any instructions?"

"Send a letter of appeal to the Ministry of the Interior of Holy Terra, telling them that Ers can't afford such a high tithe, and Ers strongly requests a reassessment of the tax level!"

"Ah? You mean to send a letter to Holy Terra, how is that possible, God Emperor, it's impossible..."

Old Mike muttered, seeming a little confused.

What's going on?

Can't contact Holy Terra?

Ron suppressed his anxiety and tried to make himself look gentler: "Can you tell me specifically why we can't send a letter to Holy Terra?"

Old Mike was a little terrified: "...Because the God Emperor has abandoned us, we are sinners!"

"This is a place abandoned by God, the God Emperor has abandoned His lamb!"

"The Chaos Monster will kill us all!"

Looking at the increasingly terrified and crazy Old Mike, Ron was numb and almost drew his gun.

Is this old man a heretic?

If what the old man said is true, Ers is afraid that there will be a big problem!

"Old Mike, you're talking nonsense again!"

Bayev came over and stopped Old Mike.

Old Mike immediately became depressed and bowed his head to greet Bayev: "General Manager"

Bayev patted Old Mike on the shoulder and said gently: "You go out and have a rest. I'll do what the Governor-General told you to do for you"

"Oh, okay... OK"

Old Mike walked out with his hands behind his back in disappointment.

Bayev pointed at Old Mike's back and explained to Ron: "Old Mike went crazy a few years ago and talked nonsense everywhere."

It turned out to be a madman, and Ron breathed a sigh of relief.

He really thought that Ers could not contact Holy Terra.

This is a big problem. What if it is a chaos invasion? Wouldn't it be the end?

"Spreading heresy, according to regulations, should be dealt with, but he has served the family for hundreds of years, and has blocked swords for Grant's bloodline, and has made great contributions."

Bayev continued: "So we have to arrange him to guard the document library. There are machine servants here, so it doesn't matter if he nags a few more words."

This Grant family is quite humane...

Ron has no memory of old Mike at all, so he had to nod.

After speaking, Bayev looked at Ron and asked: "What did you want to ask old Mike to do just now?"

Ron frowned: "I want to file a complaint with Holy Terra. It is difficult for Ers to bear the taxes required by the Empire."

In fact, Ron did not have much hope for the result of the complaint, just a try.

After all, changing the tax level means that the Ministry of the Interior has made a mistake, and an imperial official needs to be responsible for it.

It is difficult to let the imperial officials take the initiative to take responsibility.

They just need to ignore this matter, or extend the approval process indefinitely.

In the government process of dozens, hundreds of years or even longer, many mistakes are not responsible.

When Ers disappears naturally due to resource depletion or rebellion, this matter will naturally end.

The human empire has millions of planets, and its territory is still expanding. Every moment, planets are destroyed for one reason or another.

When the news reached Holy Terra, it was unknown how many years had passed.

Ers was just an unknown low-level hive planet.

Even if it was destroyed, the death and suffering of tens of billions of people would be just a line of words in the files of the Ministry of the Interior.

It may be sealed forever after being recorded, and no one will remember this planet and the people on it.

Ron only realized at this moment that he was in such an important position, and the decision he made could affect the fate of tens of billions of people on the entire planet.

The heavy pressure made him a little breathless.

What to do?

"Governor, we don't need to appeal," Bayev said firmly.

"We have to give it a try."

Ron was a little anxious: "According to the current situation, if the appeal fails, we may not be able to pay the taxes for this quarter."

"Pay taxes?"

Bayev looked at Ron in surprise: "Do you mean paying the tithe?"

"Is there any problem?"

"Did you forget something?"

Bayev's heart couldn't help but lift up. Since yesterday, the Governor has become very strange, as if he has changed into a different person.

Ron saw the other party's reaction and immediately understood that it should be the loss of some memory that caused his behavior to be unreasonable.

What went wrong?

He hesitated whether to reveal some information to dispel the other party's doubts.

In this way, they can communicate openly in the future to avoid major mistakes caused by the fog of memory.

"Sir?"

Bayev looked at Ron worriedly, fearing that there was really something wrong with the last bloodline of the Grant family.

Ron came to his senses and decided to confess something. After all, the longer this matter was delayed, the deeper the doubts.

"I did forget some things," Ron pointed to his head: "It should be the side effect of awakening psychic power..."

Awakening psychic power means communicating with the subspace, which is a very dangerous thing and often leads to terrible consequences.

For example, psychic power out of control causes destruction, bloodthirstiness, and even possible corruption into a monster!

It's lucky to just lose some memories.

"Amnesia?"

Bayev looked at Ron nervously, and he relaxed for a while and said with concern: "This is not a simple problem. You need to ask His Excellency Bishop Doni to take a look at it for you."

"No problem," Ron nodded and brought the topic back to the point: "Let's continue to discuss tax matters. What happened?"

Unexpectedly, Bayev dropped a bombshell.

"Actually, you don't have to worry about taxes. We don't need to pay taxes anymore."

"Ah?"
