Extra: The Differences Between Vito and the Emperor
This article is to explain the differences between the Emperor and Vito in the Emperor's "Wait for me to revive and kill" plan. I believe some readers may not understand it yet. Without taking up the space for the update, I will explain it here.
First of all, about the difference between the Emperor and Vito's positioning, have you noticed a word used repeatedly in the text? "Guardian of mankind" or "Ancient Guardian" (Guardian of mankind) and the Emperor's title is "Protector of civilization" (Protector of civilization) It seems that there is not much difference, right? But in fact, there is a big difference.
The biggest difference is that the Emperor wants to "continue" human civilization, not the thousands of individuals in this civilization. What he wants to do is to continue humanity as a civilization and an existence, to continue the concept of humanity rather than all individuals in this collective. This is the contradiction between civilization and man mentioned in philosophy.
In human terms, the Emperor is like a Paradox player, playing a game. In this game, his role is human. What he needs to do is to make his own camp continue to fight. So when he clicks on various options, he will only consider this issue, and he doesn't care about all the people in it. Even if he deletes all the people on the board and creates new people, it's okay. After all, "humanity" still exists as a civilization.
So this is the contradiction. The Emperor's resurrection and counter-killing plan, how many people will be left in this universe after he falls down and resurrects, or whether there will be any human beings left is unknown. After all, no one knows if the Emperor will kill all human beings like Slaanesh and become the sixth evil god if he ascends.
Or the simplest one, who knows the time of the Emperor's resurrection, a week? A month? A year or a hundred years? It is a question whether there are still people alive in the Empire when he is resurrected, but the Emperor does not care, because he does not care whether there are still humans alive in this "universe". He can completely use cloning technology to create a new generation of humans in the new universe after he kills all the aliens and chaos. A new generation of humans who have no memory of the past Empire and do not know what happened in the past to continue civilization.
So for the Emperor, his goal is so crazy now. In other words, he can blow up the entire galaxy and kill all the lives in the galaxy like the forerunners in the halo to restart the galaxy and then restart the life cycle, because he wants to continue civilization, not a society composed of people.
This is the biggest contradiction between him and Vito. As the guardian of mankind, Vito, coupled with his experience, wants to protect the society of the Empire, or the humans who are still alive. For Vito, these people are human civilization.
Each collective is made up of countless individuals. If the individuals are gone, the collective will disappear. The "new humans" created by the Emperor, who have no memory of the past humans and don't even know the past humans, are the descendants of the humans in the current empire. After all, they are cloned by artificial humans like Krieg, and they don't remember the current humans.
So for Vito, the Emperor's plan is completely unacceptable. His behavior of simply restarting the game is what Vito hates the most. He is simply treating the whole world and the universe as a game, a game played with the four gods. So in the text, Vito has always hated the concept of "great game", and the part where he got angry with Tzeentch is also for this reason.
I don't know if you have noticed? From the past to the present, Vito will only get angry because of two "people", Tzeentch and the Emperor. In a sense, the two are quite similar in this issue. Tzeentch is also a god who doesn't care about believers at all, and only cares about whether the final "conspiracy" is continued. The rest of Slaanesh, Khorne and Nurgle will care about believers to some extent, but Tzeentch is the kind of god who doesn't care at all.
For Vito, if we are all dead now, if everyone is dead, then the "beautiful future" created by the Emperor will be meaningless to the current human beings. No one will feel happy because of the greatness after death, because you are already dead, and everything after that has nothing to do with you. Besides, this is 40K, and you may not die well even if you die.
What he wants to protect are those he cares about, loves and becomes friends with. Vito loves the human society. Note the difference. It is society, not civilization. Society is composed of people in it, while civilization is different. Civilization is a cultural concept and ideological concept. What the Emperor wants is Vito to give up everyone, give up Cole, give up Celestine, Lilith (OK, OK, I know she may not count) and Bell, Ragnar and others, and let them die to continue human civilization.
In other words, give up Vito's humanity as a "human" and become a true god like him.
(So Vito often scolds the Emperor for being a charlatan who likes to talk about philosophy. His concepts have always been very broad, typical of philosophers.)
So this is where Vito and the Emperor disagree. One wants to protect the people around him, and the other wants to continue human civilization. Let all the people die now, as long as human civilization can be reborn in the new world.
Although the Emperor seems to have made it clear that he will invite Vito to create new humans in this new world, the Emperor is the God of Creation, and Vito is the God of War. The Emperor teaches people about civilization and development, society, etc., while Vito teaches new humans how to protect themselves, build armies and force, etc. In short, it is a civilization god similar to the Eldar, although there are only two of them here.
(By the way, if Vito is a woman, would it be better? Look, the Emperor and the Queen, are they a good match? No, no, no, Mr. Inquisitor, I mean, BOMM! Heretic!)
But obviously, Vito's reaction to the Emperor's method is as described in the article, "You are the most asshole ever born in human history." (Are you interested in learning about Erebus? He will make you feel that everyone is like a white lotus)
This is the current disagreement between the Emperor and Vito. Do you understand? In fact, there is no standard answer to this question, and there is no right or wrong. Is it to sacrifice all individuals to continue civilization, or to resolutely defend the people who are alive now, but who is willing to be the "majority of sacrifices"? Or, are you willing?
The answer to this question can be explained in any way, but it is actually unsolvable. This is also the biggest problem that has troubled the protagonist for so many years. He knows that humans have been bleeding slowly, but although this universe is cruel, people are at least alive, and the Emperor's set can be reversed, but everyone has to die.
Who is more reasonable depends on everyone's position. Once again, there is no right or wrong, and everyone is welcome to actively discuss this.
