Chapter 1403 The Death of Dad 6

"Damn it, doesn't this Russian tractor have any weaknesses? Why is it still ineffective when it is hit?"

The IS6 heavy tank is indeed a very well designed model in the Stalin heavy tank family in terms of armor layout.

That is, there is no large area on the front of the turret that can be penetrated like the IS2, nor is there a bullet-catching area on the front of the turret left due to design defects in the IS3. The overall design of the armor layout is so good that it can even be compared with the "ultimate father" IS7 heavy tank.

But there is no tank without weaknesses in this world, and even the most powerful tanks have their corresponding weaknesses.

The German army still failed to figure out the real armor weakness of the IS6 because they did not have a thorough understanding of the IS6 and were only limited to oral weaknesses passed down by word of mouth. It is true that the destroyed IS6 was penetrated from the gun root position, but the gun root position is also divided into left and right.

The IS6, which only has armor reduction at the gun root position on the gunner's side, is not like the Tiger King, where the left and right face armor is symmetrical and can be penetrated.

The armor protection of the gun root on the gunner's side is only 150 mm physical thickness, and less than 200 mm including the tilt equivalent. It is indeed easy for the Tiger King's 88 to penetrate this position.

The other side of the gun root is protected by a solid 200 mm physical thickness homogeneous steel armor. Counting the equivalent defense bonus caused by the curvature of the gun shield, it is no longer something that the Tiger King's 88 can deal with.

The German armored soldiers were confused and confused about this point, and many of them fired shells at the thicker side by accident.

It is not easy to hit a moving target, and even hit such a small part as the gun root.

At the same time, the complex operation of operating the turret direction machine and the main gun elevation machine with both hands, observing with the naked eye to predict the timing of firing, and finally accurately pressing the firing button is far from as simple as the tank games in later computer games where you press the keyboard and swing the mouse. This is a normal thing that is easy to understand.

So it is true that a few German armor-piercing shells hit the gun root, but more armor-piercing shells missed the target and failed to hit the gun root. Either they missed the target directly, or they were slightly off the target and scratched the curved armor on the front of the turret next to the gun root, scraping off a line of paint and scratching the skin of the IS6 painted in snow-white winter camouflage.

The bad news for the German army is over, of course, there is relatively good news.

For example, there are indeed two armor-piercing shells with a length of 88, which hit the only weak point on the front of the IS6 heavy tank, which is the weak area of the gun root where the gunner is located.

One of the armor-piercing shells hit a little above the gun root. Although it caused a penetration effect, it failed to penetrate completely because the shooting angle was not completely correct and was slightly to the right. In the end, the shot was hit and hit a rather embarrassing half-penetration.

The derivative result brought about by this is that the gunner's sighting system of this IS6 was mostly destroyed.

The main gun sight was deformed and completely shattered by the impact. In the case of the mass-produced IS6, which was castrated and simplified, and without the gunner's wide-angle periscope, this meant that the gunner's vision was completely lost and he became blind.

In fact, the gunner himself was not in a good situation. Even if the main gun sight was still intact, he could not continue to fight.

The metal fragments and glass shards that were broken and splashed by the strong kinetic energy of the armor-piercing shell pierced the gunner's eyes who was operating the main gun sight to observe the enemy, so that even at a very close distance, the gunner's face was covered with blood and he couldn't stop wailing in pain.

This IS6 can be declared to have lost its combat effectiveness and was forced to withdraw from the battle. This is an ironclad fact.

On the other side not far away, another IS6 that was also penetrated by the gun root weakness was not so lucky. It was not as simple as losing combat effectiveness and withdrawing from the battlefield.

In the worst case, another IS6 was hit squarely in the weak spot of the gun root. The homogeneous steel armor with a physical thickness of only 150 mm could not withstand the close shooting of the Chang 88 at a distance of 500 meters, and was pierced and poured into it on the spot.

The armor-piercing bullet that hit the armor head-on and smashed the wind cap and the cap retained extremely strong residual kinetic energy. After penetrating the armor, it continued to move forward along the predetermined ballistic trajectory. Not only did it smash and destroy the entire optical sighting system in front of the gunner, but it also shot the gunner who was observing the situation in front of the main gun sight on the spot, and directly turned him into a pool of bloody paste.

After shooting one person in the head, the armor-piercing projectile still did not stop there, and continued to rush forward to the rear of the breech block, close to the first ammunition rack at the rear end of the turret, and at the position next to the commander. Only then did the armor-piercing delay fuse trigger successfully, detonating the warhead charge of the projectile and exploding on the spot, with flames flying everywhere.

The explosion was so close to the first ammunition rack at the rear end of the turret, only 40 centimeters away in a straight line. The remaining 8 122mm projectiles neatly arranged on the first ammunition rack became the first unlucky targets along with the commander.

The intense flames from ignition to explosion only took a moment, and there was no time to react with the naked eye or thinking.

The IS6 heavy tank, which had a violent explosion at the rear of the turret, was as fragile as a toy car stuffed with firecrackers by a kid.

The turret dome, where the armor was the weakest, was blown open from the inside out and the armor was blown off as if it had been ripped open by the powerful force of 8 122mm projectiles and 1 88mm projectile that exploded almost simultaneously.

The aftermath of the ammunition explosion, which was enough to destroy everything, filled the turret and quickly impacted the vehicle body connected to the turret, which was also full of flames and powerful.

The propellant cartridges neatly placed in the vehicle body further contributed to the power of the ammunition explosion. The IS6 was first blown open at the back of the turret, and then it erupted like a volcano, emitting even stronger flames and rushing straight into the sky.

The ammunition explosion in this chain reaction was like a domino falling down, and the power was beyond the imagination of many people. The IS6 heavy tank turret, whose head was blown open, could no longer withstand the strong impact potential energy gushing upwards in the third second of the explosion, and was directly thrown out of the vehicle body like the ammunition explosion of the German Black Panther.

No matter how heavy the turret is, it is just as light as a feather in front of the ammunition explosion. The IS6, which is filled with 122mm large-caliber projectiles and propellants, will be completely destroyed if it explodes. The power is far greater than that of German tanks. Even this seemingly indestructible steel body cannot withstand this terrifying impact and will be torn to pieces.
