Chapter 13 Spring Hunting

Remember [Strawberry] in one second, fast update, free reading!

For European nobles, hunting was once a stage for them to show their privileges, especially large prey such as wild boars and elks. For a period of time, only nobles had the right to hunt prey.

Many nobles love hunting, such as Constantine's grandfather, the current King of Denmark Christian IX, who likes hunting very much and will go hunting every spring and autumn.

Constantine's grandfather and father are both kings in office.

In 1862, Prince George, Constantine's father, 18-year-old George, was elected King of Greece, while Christian himself was still the Crown Prince of Denmark at the time.

This created a strange scene, the son became king first before his father.

Later, Christian was crowned King of Denmark, and there was another strange scene of father and son being king at the same time.

Constantine held in his hand an exquisite hunting rifle given by his grandfather when he went hunting with his grandfather Christian IX last year. The painted reddish-brown walnut stock was extremely smooth to the touch, with black double barrels like ink and bright silver back decorations with complex patterns.

This is a precious handmade double-barreled hunting rifle.

Wearing long boots, tight red hunting clothes, and a black felt hat, he came to the yard.

Only the barking of dogs in the yard was heard. 30 hounds of various colors with patterns gathered together, and the reins were pulled by a male servant in hunting clothes.

Probably seeing Constantine's arrival, the dogs shook their tails vigorously, barked loudly, and struggled towards Constantine.

30 strong hounds worked together, and the servant gritted his teeth to control the emotional hounds, pulling the reins hard, his face flushed.

Constantine came to the hounds and stroked their heads one by one. The hounds being stroked stretched their heads, squinted their eyes, and looked very happy.

At the same time, he kept saying, "good boy, hello."

These hounds are usually kept in the dog pen in the manor, and Constantine will feed them when he is free.

Therefore, these hounds have a close relationship with Constantine, and occasionally Constantine will train these hounds to chase prey.

The Tatoi Palace covers an area of 4,500 hectares and is located on the hillside in the north of Athens. There are forests and grasslands around it, which is a good hunting ground.

Constantine squatted down and greeted the dogs one by one, and asked the butler Capet beside him:

"Butler Capet, are the guests I invited here?"

Butler Capet glanced at the watch on his wrist and replied, "Your Excellency the Duke, they will be here soon."

Last night, I heard that Constantine was going to invite several guests to the manor for spring hunting activities, so Butler Capet quickly sent someone to deliver the invitation letter to the invited guests' residence.

"Good morning, Constantine"

Suddenly, Nina's voice came. Constantine turned around and saw that Nina was wearing a black hunting suit, a black felt hat, and riding on a white horse.

She was dressed like a female hunter who was as heroic as a man.

Constantine said: "Nina, are you going hunting too?"

Nina on the horse excitedly said: "Such a good outing season, how can I miss it?"

Nina has a special status. Although she is nominally Constantine's maid, she has the support of Miss Aurora behind her and is deeply loved by Queen Olga.

She is more like a noble visiting the court.

Just then, there was a noise, and it seemed that the guests had arrived.

There were several young men riding on horses, carrying hunting rifles, followed by several carriages, and servants following behind.

Constantine came forward to greet them, and several young men got off their horses and bowed.

"Welcome to the Tatoi Palace," Constantine walked forward and hugged the leading young man.

This man was called Gian Corbett. The Corbett family was one of the founders of the National Bank of Greece, and they have always had shares in this bank.

The National Bank of Greece is now the largest bank in Greece. It is also the issuing bank of the Greek currency, the Drama, and controls the currency issuance rights of Greece.

"Hello, George Steve, long time no see," Constantine hugged a young man with a high nose and blue eyes.

"Thank you for your invitation, Your Highness, it is an honor to be a guest at the Tatoi Palace," Steve complimented.

"Thank you," George replied.

In 1841, Swiss banker Gian Corbett Inanna and George Steve founded the National Bank of Greece together.

Although this bank sounds like a central bank of a government, it is a genuine private bank that has always controlled the currency issuance rights in Greece.

Gian Gaobori Inanna and George Steve are the grandfathers of the two young men in front of them. These two families control the largest bank in Greece.

"Hello, Costebru," Constantine said, hugging the third young man.

"Hello, Your Highness, I am honored to receive your invitation," Costebru replied.

The Costebru family is the owner of the Greek Alpha Bank. Since the establishment of the bank in 1879, the Costebru family has been controlling it.

There are some other children from wealthy families, but Constantine pays more attention to these three.

In the carriage behind, several rich girls in gorgeous long skirts came to Constantine, holding the sides of their skirts with both hands, and bowed to perform court etiquette.

"Welcome to Tatoi Palace, beautiful ladies, I hope you have a good time," Constantine responded.

If in other European countries, most of the people Constantine invited should be children of nobles.

But the situation in Greece is special.

Greece, which just gained independence from the rule of Ottoman Turkey in 1830, had a short period of independence, only a few decades.

Moreover, King Otto before George I was deposed by the Greeks.

This led to the special situation in Greece: except for the royal family and several nobles from the royal family, there were no other nobles.

So there is today's situation, the guests are all from merchant families.

"Okay, the guests are all here, we can set off," Constantine raised his voice and said loudly.

The young men got on the horses, and the rich ladies couldn't ride horses because they were wearing long skirts, so they could only get into the carriage.

In the 19th century, the European upper class regarded hunting as a rare opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get close to nature.

Therefore, it was popular in the upper class, and Constantine was still looking forward to it.

The servant let go of the reins that bound the hounds.

The hounds ran quickly to Constantine's bay horse, gathered around, squatted on the ground with their heads raised, observed Constantine, and barked at him non-stop.

The bay horse carried a package on its back, which contained tools that might be used in the hunting process.

The tools included: a telescope, a dog whistle, a dagger of different sizes, a medical bandage, matches, a raincoat, a compass, and plenty of food and water.

Constantine, riding on the bay horse, took the lead, led the horse team, walked out of the gate, and the hounds behind him followed closely.

Nina saw this and hurriedly followed.

The crowd went to the hunting ground in a mighty manner.
