Chapter 278 How Can He Subdue His Heart?
"This name belongs to the young monk, so it should be the young monk's place! How about a debate between the young monk and the demon king, and whoever wins can get this temple? How about it?"
Seeing that Tang Yan was such a rogue, Manjusri really had no choice. When he couldn't use force, he really couldn't rely on Tang Yan.
"If you want to argue, I will make sure you lose! But this temple belongs to me, so why should I use it for bets?"
"Let me ask you, is your name on this land deed?"
"Let me ask you, when you first built this temple, did you move the bricks and lay the ashes?"
"Let me ask you, do all the monks in this temple still recognize you?"
Three consecutive questions left Manjusri speechless.
Indeed...the temple's land deed does not have his name on it, and it was not him who built the temple.
He looked at the one or two hundred monks in the temple, and found that these monks were a little afraid of him at first, but after he was scolded by Tang Yan, their eyes changed.
It turns out that the Bodhisattva only has such eyes.
Manjusri smiled bitterly in his heart. The wisdom of the Demon King was indeed extraordinary. But if he leaves in despair, wouldn't it be a joke?
So he said: "The young monk has some questions about Buddhism and wants to ask the Demon King for advice!"
"Tell me, although I don't know much about Buddhism, I have done some research on philosophy!" Tang Yan said.
"How can a good man or a good woman abide in the mind of Anuttara-samyaksambodhi and subdue their mind?" Manjusri asked.
Manjushri's lineage of commentaries mostly uses prajna as the emptiness of nature, and prajna is wisdom. This sentence comes from the "Vajra Prajna Paramita Sutra", that is, the question asked by the elder in the "Diamond Sutra". Now being asked by Manjusri, I was about to see how Tang Yan would answer!
"This is a philosophical question. Let me first talk about how philosophy appeared!" Tang Yan said to the surrounding monks: "This is not the place to talk. Let's talk after we go in."
Indeed, they were still blocking the entrance to Wenshu Monastery, which was indeed not very impressive.
When they came to the main hall of the monk's hall, Manjusri saw that the Third Buddha, the Four Bodhisattvas, etc. had all been removed from the main hall of the monk's hall. There was no high platform, only a podium, a few black wooden boards, and some bookshelves.
On top of the black wooden board, there is white paper taped into a strip with red letters written on it.
"study hard, improve every day!"
"Everyone, please sit down and listen to my personal opinion." Tang Yan said to the monks, and then said to Wu Di: "Go and pour two cups of hot tea for Manjusri and Zhizhen. After all, we are guests. "
Zhizhen looked at the hot tea. He, a former Wenshu dean elder, had somehow become a "guest".
Manjusri took Wu Di's tea and looked at the round light behind Wu Di's head. Only he knew what he was thinking.
"The current emperor of the Zhao family of the Song Dynasty is incompetent, but the overall living standards of the current dynasty are better than those of the previous dynasty."
"It can be seen that the previous dynasty was better than the previous dynasty. Therefore, the longer the time is from now, the life will definitely be worse than now."
"Hunger and food are eternal topics."
"But there is a group of people who are born into a royal family and have no worries about food and clothing throughout their lives. They have surpassed 99% of the people in the world. Because these people eat too much and have too many hours every day, they will have a question."
"That's: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going?"
When the two little snakes crawling outside heard Lu Zhishen say this, they glanced at each other and understood what the other meant: "You might as well say Buddha's name!"
"These three are the ultimate questions of philosophy. Not to mention now, even in another thousand years, there will be no answer to this question."
"Just the question of 'who am I' has caused doubts among these overfed royals."
"So they left their families behind to find the answer. Eventually, they thought they had the answer."
"They have their own disciples and disciples. Among their disciples and disciples, there are smart people who mystify, ritualize, and complicate the answer, making it miraculous and omnipotent. They use fear as a threat, use extravagant hope as packaging, and make others kneel down. , to satisfy their own purposes.”
"People need to eat. If they take refuge in the Buddha, the Buddha will also let them eat. But the daily work is so hard. If you work every day, there will be no time to consider these issues. Therefore, the Buddha gives people the answer to eating!"
"That's just begging and alms!"
Hearing this, Manjusri felt like he was breaking out in a cold sweat. Why did he ask this question so rudely? It almost pulled out their Buddhist underwear.
Monks can no longer farm their own land? Of course, but monks have gone to farm, what is the difference between them and farmers?
After eating so much every day and working hard every day, all I want to do is sleep. How can I have time to think about philosophy? Want life?
Physical labor combined with high-intensity mental labor would have caused sudden death in a few years when Gautama lived.
In most areas, why are monks not nobles but better than nobles?
Because they have mastered the words, they have the right to interpret, and they are still prostitutes. This is the reason.
In other words, if you want to think about philosophy in ancient times, you must have food and drink!
"If everyone in the world were monks, they would all starve to death!"
"This is the reason why the Buddha was exterminated three times, because all the wealth in the world began to gather in the monks, and the world can no longer support so many monks!"
"When we study scriptures, we must read more history and sum up experience. We must not take it for granted!" Tang Yan said to a group of monks.
All the monks thought about eating some whole grains of radish, green vegetables and chanting sutras every day, and their chests were pressed against their backs despite being hungry. If I go farming again, I won’t be exhausted to death! He nodded in agreement.
"Going back to the issue of Manjusri, how can we subdue his mind?"
"This problem is very simple. As long as everyone has enough to eat and drink, no worries about food and clothing, everyone is equal, and there is no oppression."
"If you live happily and peacefully every day, live and work in peace and contentment, strive to live a good life, and realize the value of life, you will not have this problem."
"After all, the setbacks encountered in life exist objectively, and everyone's 'heart' is different. When facing setbacks and difficulties, you should think about the reasons behind them!"
"Rather than find a formulaic thing to numb and deceive yourself, the so-called 'can break the Vajra Prajnaparamita'!"
Zhizhen heard it and suddenly felt that it made sense. He was robbed of Wenshu Monastery, but his heart was still intact. He always comforted himself that it was because he couldn't cultivate in his heart that he could not be distracted.
But this Wenshu Monastery is his own home, the place where he has lived all his life!
Now because of evil people, I have to leave Wenshu Monastery at a young age!
Why!
Why did he leave?
Instead of solving his own problems, he just consoled himself for not being able to practice well. If you can’t solve the problem, can you still solve the problem yourself?
Is this method of escaping by deceiving oneself and others, the Buddha's... Dharma?
Manjusri looked at his disciple, his heart was filled with anger, and he looked up at the sky again.
In the sky, a huge palm fell from the sky!
Gua! The core of the Diamond Sutra is that the mind is born without going anywhere, which is quite complicated. I can't explain clearly in a sentence or two.
