Chapter 1304 Kampala

All East Africa's actions in Russia went very smoothly. During this period, the Russian Labor Party had no time to integrate its own resources. Their primary goal was to deal with the counterattack of domestic reactionary forces.

There were countless forces like the Nobel family that could not see the situation clearly in Russia, which also facilitated the liquidation of East Africa's assets in Russia.

The assets withdrawn from Russia, plus the profits obtained after the sale, plus the ill-gotten gains "robbed" by East Africa from Russia, made East Africa earn a lot of money. Not only did it achieve a complete withdrawal before the Labor Party took power, but it also made East Africa's treasury and the Rhine royal family richer.

Kampala.

Since East Africa began to tilt its policies towards the Great Lakes region, the development of Kampala and Kisumu in the region has been particularly rapid.

In addition to being in the Great Lakes region, it also benefits from being in the northern urban belt of East Africa. The broad scope of northern East Africa is not small, but the core area of economic development is naturally along the northern railway.

After all, the northern railway is the only railway transportation trunk line that can connect most cities in the north.

The big cities in the north of East Africa, Mombasa, Nairobi, Kisumu, and Kampala are all on this route. Other cities, such as Kisan, Bangui, and Libreville, are relatively backward in terms of urban scale, but they are also regional centers.

Therefore, Kisumu and Kampala are both cities in the Great Lakes region and hub cities on the northern railway. Under these two factors, it is difficult not to develop.

Of course, Kampala has another advantage over Kisumu, that is, Kampala is the capital of the Northern Great Lakes Province, while Kisumu is in the province, and there is Nairobi above it.

However, this also represents another advantage. After all, the South Prussia Province where Kisumu is located was developed earlier, and its finances are relatively more abundant than those of the Northern Great Lakes Province, but that's all.

Although the Northern Great Lakes Province was developed relatively late, its population, resources, and environmental advantages are much stronger than those of the South Prussia Province. If East Africa had fully developed the industry of the Great Lakes Region in the early days, it would be unknown who would win today.

At present, Kampala is making every effort to develop four major industries: petroleum, chemicals, textiles, and non-ferrous metals.

The rich oil resources in the Northern Great Lakes Province are the basis for Kampala to develop the oil industry, but Kampala focuses more on the chemical industry derived from oil. In addition, Kampala also has rich rubber resources. The agriculture in the province is also relatively developed, and there is a large demand for chemical-related products such as fertilizers and pesticides. Therefore, the development of the chemical industry is a key direction for Kampala.

As for the textile industry, Uganda was one of the colonies where Britain promoted cotton planting in the past, and under the rule of East Africa, the cotton production in the Northern Great Lakes Province is more prominent than in the past, especially in its northern region.

Finally, there are non-ferrous metals, which also fits the resource distribution characteristics of the Great Lakes region. The Great Lakes region lacks coal, steel and other minerals, or the reserves are not as rich as those in the south of East Africa, so it is inevitable to develop local advantageous industries by taking advantage of their strengths and avoiding their weaknesses.

Even so, the economic development prospects of Kampala are still very optimistic. After all, in addition to the resources in the province, it is also a necessary material distribution center around the Nile Basin and Lake Turkana Basin.

After all, the overseas export of goods in most parts of northern East Africa relies on the northern railway, which makes Kampala a core hub where important railways, roads and waterways interact.

"Kampala's development is really changing with each passing day, especially in the past three years. It is not an exaggeration to describe it as a leap forward." Yevre operated his own ship, the Yevre, and looked at the newly built Kampala Port and said.

With the economic opening up, many of the East African state-owned transport companies that were once widely active on the Great Lakes have withdrawn from the stage of history, and private ships have appeared widely on the Great Lakes.

The Yevre is a small cargo ship built by the Entebbe Shipyard in East Africa in 1907 and once belonged to a small transport company.

In 1913, the company withdrew from the stage of history due to financial difficulties, and its assets were sold by the East African government, and the Yevre was one of them.

Of course, the ship was obviously not called the Yevre before, but it was renamed after Yevre bought it, for which Yevre borrowed a lot of money at the time.

However, over the past few years, not only did he completely pay off his loans and debts, but Yevre himself also made a lot of money, all thanks to the stimulation of the European war on East Africa's exports.

Yevre's wife said on the side: "Yes, Kampala has changed every year in the past few years, and it is almost connected to Entebbe."

Kampala and Entebbe, together with the new city of Jinga, can form the economic core of the Northern Great Lakes Province along the shores of the Great Lakes.

Kampala and Entebbe are not far apart, and with the development of the past three years, the two cities are almost merging together.

Yevre said to his wife: "This is a good thing. Although the construction of the Xingguo Dam has affected our business for a period of time, we are busier now."

At the beginning, in order to build the Xingguo Dam, the entire Great Lakes water area was raised, so in order to respond to this change, the East African government uniformly expanded and renovated the ports along the coast.

In this process, many ports in the Great Lakes region obviously had to temporarily stop operating, but this process took only more than a year.

Subsequently, cities in the Great Lakes region entered a phase of expansion, and urban construction naturally drove demand for cement, steel, machinery, etc., which also stimulated shipping in the Great Lakes region.

Moreover, the newly renovated port has greatly improved its operating efficiency and more advanced equipment, making transportation in East Africa more convenient.

The main business of the Yevre family is grain transportation. In the past, the loading and unloading of such bulk cargo at the Port of Kampala required dock workers and boatmen to complete it bit by bit. Now, the Port of Kampala is directly equipped with crawler transport equipment, which greatly saves time.

Of course, this also puts higher requirements on ships in the Great Lakes region, and many old ships are eliminated as a result. Of course, the Yevre is obviously not among them. After all, its production was during the second five-year plan in East Africa, and the ship was shipped relatively late.

Yevre's wife said: "After another year or two, when we have saved enough money, we can borrow money from the bank to buy a new cargo ship. Now the shipping prospects of the Great Lakes are very broad."

"Especially the cargo transportation volume between the surrounding cities has increased significantly. At that time, let Elva start the business with the new ship, and we will continue to use the old ship for a few years."

Elva is the eldest son of the Yevre couple. They have three children, two boys and one girl. The eldest son and daughter are already adults, and the youngest son has not graduated yet.

At this point, Yevre smiled and said: "Elva told me a long time ago that he also wanted to be a captain. Then we will fulfill his wish by the end of next year. He probably saved a lot of money in the past few years. By then, it will definitely be enough to buy a new ship."

The shipping market of the Great Lakes is still relatively broad, and the waters here are safer and more stable than the ocean and ordinary rivers. The three attributes of earning more, more time, and safety are enough to make the crew jobs on the Great Lakes more popular.

In recent years, the booming market in the Great Lakes has driven the prosperity of the shipping industry, so the income is stable, and basically you can make money without doing anything. Compared with ocean shipping, the Great Lakes shipping takes a short time, which allows the Great Lakes shipping to dock frequently and not drift on the sea for a long time.

Safety is even more needless to say. Although the area of the Great Lakes is as high as more than 70,000 square kilometers, it is just a lake after all, there are no strong winds and waves, and there are many ships on the route. Even if an emergency really occurs, rescue can be received in time.
