Chapter 66: Floating Corpse
Monday.
It was pouring rain.
In order to go to work, Jiang Yuan drove his father's Land Cruiser and waded through the water. It was very hard.
When he entered the yard of the Criminal Police Brigade, he saw that most of the parking spaces that were crowded in the past were empty. It should be that not everyone would be embarrassed to borrow a car from his father.
He ran into the building in the rain and went to the office, only to see Wu Jun warming himself with an electric stove and sipping tea.
"You're here so early." Jiang Yuan was a little surprised. He thought Wu Jun would be late.
Wu Jun said "yeah", but asked: "Did you bring a raincoat?"
"No, I took an umbrella, it's only a short distance..."
"Today is not a good day, you have to prepare for accidents." Wu Jun interrupted Jiang Yuan, threw him a raincoat, and said: "Leave it here, it's rainy season recently. If things go wrong, there will be corpses."
"This..." Jiang Yuan was a little surprised: "Are you afraid that someone will fall into the water?"
"Any situation is possible, and there are all kinds of people. People can drown in culverts, sewers, flash floods, and sometimes people can drown when crossing the road." Wu Jun shook his head, and after a while, he said: "On rainy days, people are prone to depression. Our small place is not bad, like Changyang City, there are always high falls, and I don't know what everyone is thinking."
Jiang Yuan also sat by the electric stove to warm himself, and began to prepare himself mentally.
Outside the window, the crackling sound of rain made the window clatter. Looking through the glass, the visibility is less than 20 meters.
It rained heavily all morning.
By noon, the rain was a little lighter, and no one wanted to go out.
Jiang Yuan simply closed the door, cooked fried rice and instant noodles on the electric stove, and ate them with Wu Jun.
They had only eaten half of it when the landline in the office rang.
"A body has been swept down from Taihe River." Wu Jun stood up, with no expression on his face.
"Really?" Jiang Yuan was still a little surprised.
"It will come sooner or later, and every summer is no exception." Wu Jun sighed, put on his raincoat directly in the office, and muttered a little naggingly: "If nothing happens in Ningtai County, there will always be bad luck in the upstream cities. Everyone knows that when it rains heavily, people feel that it is not themselves who died."
Jiang Yuan quickly scooped a few mouthfuls of fried rice and drank two mouthfuls of soup. He screamed that it was so hot, and reluctantly put down his bowl and chopsticks and started to put on his raincoat.
You have to go immediately after you find a body. This is the most difficult part of being a forensic doctor, and it is more annoying than any unpleasant smell. Especially the older forensic doctors, they hated this but could do nothing about it.
The raincoat Jiang Yuan got was a little small, so he put it on with a twist, but fortunately it worked well, at least keeping the clothes inside dry.
By the Tai River.
Under the highway bridge.
There is a sharp bend here, and the river widens and the water flow slows down.
The highway bridge was built here, covering a large area of flat land. There is wind but no rain, which is a treasure land between storms.
"The body is still soaking in the river, and we can't get it out, for fear that it will be unhooked." There were only two police officers from the police station present, pointing to the river.
Wu Jun hurried over to see, and saw a pale body half wrapped in unknown water plants, with the lower body half submerged in the water, floating and hanging in a concave bay by the river.
The water flow in the concave bay is slow, and there are reeds and other aquatic plants blocking it, so it is relatively stable. The main reason why the body stayed here was that there was a fishing line hanging on it.
The other end of the fishing line was tied to a fishing rod, which was now locked to the ground.
"Two fishermen found it. They called the police immediately." The police from the police station pointed to the SUV not far away, and saw two men hugging their chests and hiding from the wind behind the car with a gloomy face. Seeing the police beckoning, they ran over reluctantly.
"It's raining so hard, and you are out fishing?" Wu Jun looked at the two people who looked cold and stunned, and couldn't help asking.
The man who ran over first wiped his face and said, "I agreed with my wife last month on the time to go fishing. Not to mention wind and rain, I have to come even if it rains."
"Can I catch fish?" Wu Jun asked.
"Occasionally."
"I have to come even if I can't catch fish."
The answers of the two were quite firm.
Wu Jun sighed, took another look at the body in the river, and asked, "How did you find the body? Was it fished out or what?"
"It floated down from the river and was directly entangled on my fishing line." The fisherman who spoke was slightly fat, and he didn't dare to glance at the body.
"Such a big body, floating down, you didn't see it in advance?" Wu Jun asked again.
"It's raining so hard, and there's wind, I can't even keep an eye on the float, how can I have time to look at other things." The fisherman said confidently.
Wu Jun actually thought what he said was very reasonable.
In such heavy rain and wind, if you don't keep an eye on the float, it would be a waste of time.
"Follow me to get the hook and fish the body up first." Wu Jun called Jiang Yuan, took out a telescopic pole from the trunk, fastened the screw, and then installed a large iron hook in front, and slowly hung the body from the shore.
Wu Jun was in front, watching the iron hook hang firmly, gently pulled it, and then shouted: "One, two, three..."
Jiang Yuan exerted force in the back, Wu Jun exerted force in the front, and the two of them exerted force together, and they pulled hard, and half of the body came up.
There is only half a body!
Only half of the pants of the body were left, and the gray-white calves and feet were wrinkled, which was the state of being soaked for a long time.
As for the upper half, because it was broken, the remaining abdominal cavity had been cleaned.
A gust of wind blew, and the stench of corpses rushed straight into the noses of Jiang Yuan and others.
The two fishermen stared as if they had been caught by a fish. After several seconds, they ran away with a vomit.
"I don't want the fishing rod anymore!" The fisherman pouted as he reluctantly gave it up.
The companion also frowned and confirmed: "Really? Didn't you just say..."
"I didn't know it was half a corpse." The fisherman was about to shout.
The two policemen from the police station also hid away.
Jiang Yuan and Wu Jun had nowhere to go. The two wore masks and gloves and silently moved the body to the shore, where there was a plastic sheet that had just been prepared.
Wu Jun stepped forward to take the iron hook off the body, and then straightened the body a little.
Jiang Yuan and Wu Jun immediately looked at the upper half of the body, which was where the body was broken.
The cut edge is not very neat, but there are also some flat cut marks.
Wu Jun and Jiang Yuan looked at each other, and their expressions suddenly became serious.
If there are cut marks, it is very likely a murder.
"I'll notify Team Huang." Wu Jun took off his gloves, stood upwind, and then took out his mobile phone to make a call.
Jiang Yuan changed his gloves and began to take pictures of the body and the surrounding environment.
There is a huge difference between ordinary unnatural deaths and murders, and now it is a state of wind and rain. Don't look at the river bank. It is still one or two meters away from the water. Who knows when it will be submerged.
Soon, Wu Jun finished the call, put on his gloves again, and said: "Team Huang and his team have set off. These few days are hard to endure."
