Chapter 73 Newt Scamander
What is it like to fly high?
As a man who had never even driven a J-20 in his previous life, William finally felt the thrill of flying.
He stood on the Thunderbird, stepped on the sea, and the thunder light crossed the sea, chopped the waves, the sea skyrocketed several meters, and slapped the coast fiercely.
As the thunderbird flew higher and higher, a waterspout formed under it, and for a while, the monstrous water column swayed upwards, with a momentum like a rainbow.
William opened his arms and looked up, the full moon hung high, the sea of clouds surging, and the horizon was endless...
This is probably the most beautiful scene, right?
He was really handsome, but within five seconds of his high spirits, William felt icy cold, his legs trembled, and he was as cold as a silly roe deer.
William learned Bobo tea, and came a cat with his hands tucked in, tremblingly shrinking in the thick feathers of the Thunderbird's neck, which made his body feel much warmer.
Seeing that Hermione's nose was red from the cold, William squeezed at her, and with a few taps with his wand, turned the quill in his pocket into several thick blankets.
He gave each one one, and everyone was wrapped in blankets and finally not cold.
If it weren't for the fear of being thrown to death by a thunderbird, William really wanted to build a fire here to roast his hands, and by the way, have a small barbecue at a high altitude.
Isn't it beautiful... Ollie?
"Mr Scamander, why are you here?" asked William.
The old man's name was Newt Scamander, a well-known magical zoologist.
William is no stranger, as he is the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is the textbook for Hogwarts.
Newt was a student at Hufflepuff, but was expelled from the school.
As we all know, students who do not graduate normally are big shots. Who is the serious person who graduates normally?
So Newt is definitely not an ordinary wizard. He once captured the original Dark Lord Grindelwald, although he was later escaped by the other party.
From William's point of view, Newt's magnificent experience and proper protagonist template can be made into at least five movies!
But now Newt, who is in his nineties, is a completely gray-haired old man who looks similar to Dumbledore.
Hearing William's question, Newt's eyes wandered, looking at the Thunderbird, and said gently:
"Niko said there was something wrong with your toad, and he was too busy with the experiment to get away, so let me ride Frank to pick you up."
Hermione curled up in the thick blanket, her head resting tightly on William's shoulder, and asked curiously, "Who is Frank?"
Newt gently touched the brown feathers under his body, and glanced at Hermione through his thick bangs, saying:
"It's this ptarmigan, I named it Frank."
The ptarmigan is a large bird that lives in North America, most commonly found in Arizona in the southwestern United States, and is closely related to the phoenix.
Thunderbirds can create storms while flying and are also highly sensitive to danger, making them extremely dangerous creatures.
Newt had been struck by lightning drawn by thunderbirds before.
But the Thunderbirds sucked most of the current away, Newt didn't take much damage, and he fell just because the old cold leg had a seizure.
Newt summed it up: "Frank was rescued from smugglers when I was in Egypt for more than 60 years, and I was later sent back to the United States."
Although Newt said it was easy, the return process was definitely not easy.
As far as William knew, at that time, the Magical Congress of the United States enacted a death-curse policy on all magical creatures.
Newt sent a Thunderbird back to the United States, only to choose to smuggle it.
"Then why did Frank appear here?" Hermione wondered.
"Frank flew over himself last year,
It's grown enough to fly across the Atlantic on its own. ' Newt explained.
"This time Niko's birthday, I brought it with me, and when the birthday is over, I will take it by the way and send a child to Romania.
That kid, like Frank, was a wizard-smuggled animal. "
William raised his eyebrows, and Newt's words revealed a lot of information.
Transporting magical creatures across borders is a hassle, and Newt doesn't seem to be ready to go through official channels, but instead rides the Thunderbird directly.
After all, the Thunderbird can even traverse the Atlantic Ocean, and it is not too difficult to fly from a small English Channel to Romania.
Domineering!
"By the way, what's wrong with your toads?" Newt wondered.
"The tools made by Niko have never had any problems. I seem to see traces of magic attacks on them?"
William nodded and quickly recounted the incident they encountered in Black Lake.
Newt combed the ptarmigan's feathers and said solemnly, "Boy, I think you and your friend made a mistake."
"Wrong?" William was stunned.
"You shouldn't be catching merfolk, even if you have no intention of harming them, just making wands for merfolk hair."
Newt said seriously: "Mermaids are not animals..."
"Then what are they?" Hermione asked suspiciously.
"People, just like us." Newt wrapped himself in a blanket. "I don't think you two have taken a Fantastic Beasts class yet?"
William nodded and said, "That's an elective course that only started in the third year. I'm in the second year now, and Hermione is in the first year."
William knew a lot of magical creatures, but he just watched them out of interest and didn't learn them systematically.
"No wonder." Newt suddenly seemed to be an old professor.
"You may be wondering why mermen are humans and not animals.
The definition of man has been debated in the wizarding world for centuries. "
"In the beginning, Burdock Maldon, the fourteenth-century head of the Wizarding Council, stipulated that any member of the wizarding world who walked on two legs was granted the status of 'human'.
Later, in a friendly manner, he called all the 'people' to the meeting.
However, the conference hall was crowded with two-legged animals brought by goblins, such as ball-escapers, auguries, and elves. "
"So just having two legs doesn't guarantee that a magical creature can or will be interested in the affairs of the wizarding government."
Newt continued: "Malden's successor, Lady Alfreda Cragg, believes that all creatures that speak human languages are humans.
But this definition is also narrow. "
"It wasn't until 1811 that people found a definition that most members of the wizarding world found acceptable.
The new law minister, Grogan Stump, issued an order:
A 'man' is any creature who is intelligent enough to understand and take part in the process of making these laws. "
"So trolls are not humans, mermen and centaurs are classified as humans."
Of course, because of the feud between centaurs and banshees and vampires, they refuse to share the identity of "humans" with these creatures, but it does not prevent us from defining them as "humans". "
William nodded, which he had heard Cedric mention.
His father was in the Department of Magical Creatures Control, and there was still a centaurus liaison office there, although no centaurs used it.
Newt looked at William and Hermione.
This was the first time he looked at the two of them, and at other times, he swept away, or dodged nervously.
Newt said very seriously:
"Children, it's not because the mermaids are eccentric when they attack you.
There are no weird creatures in the world, only narrow people. "
