Rise of the Wasteland

Chapter 1568: Dead End

The second Merida offensive and defensive battle was muddled. Suzano's boss's six divisions with nearly 100,000 troops marched to the vicinity of Merida city like a parade, but they were completely defeated after only one fight.

In the vast wild wasteland, the six escaped divisions left behind countless military equipment and supplies and completely collapsed. The most notable thing is that artillery, ammunition, communication equipment, and anti-aircraft weapons have been abandoned in large quantities. These things are mixed in the weeds and can be seen everywhere.

The disorderly escape did not kill more people, but caused great casualties. Many people lost their organization and lacked the ability to rescue themselves in the wild. When the containment team of the Aurora Legion arrived, they were thirsty and hungry, and most of them were dead.

Raphael stood by the side of a road, staring blankly at the defeated enemy army that his subordinates took in. After surviving the previous attack on Merida, he lost all his companions and was promoted to become a platoon leader of the Security Forces. There are about 20 people under him, who are responsible for doing chores.

Most of the enemy troops contained were unkempt and dull. It has been hot these past two days, and the surface of the Yucatan Peninsula is short of water. People who walk around on foot can easily become dehydrated and fall into a state of thirst. Those who were unlucky would go into shock directly.

The sluggish captive was ordered to give his name, age, unit number to which he belonged, and the name of the superior officer. The enemy officers among them will be singled out and given special treatment.

The so-called "special treatment" is to be executed after interrogation to squeeze out the value. Because the Diego regime has a strong gangster nature, no one who can be an officer is a good person. Raphael had already sent away several company and platoon-level officers. These people thought they would receive preferential treatment, but they didn't know it was death.

Raphael didn't have the slightest bit of tolerance for the execution of the enemy's officers. After the early battle, he asked for leave and sneaked back to Mexico City to find his wife and children. But he found nothing, not even the cellar where his wife was hiding, and a fire destroyed everything.

Unable to find any information to pursue, Rafael returned to the army crying. His heart has become cold and hard, and he has no wavering in killing the enemy.

"What's your name? Where do you live? What did you do in the past?" For the selected captives, Rafael would "chat" with them one by one. Often he would stand by the side of the road and ask a few questions, and in a few words he would decide whether the prisoner was valuable or not.

The Mexican Front conveyed an order from the head of the Hugo Legion, implicitly expressing to the grassroots officers that the Legion did not want to contain too much useless 'garbage'. The so-called 'garbage' is the urban poor and the gangsters, who are actually the same kind of people.

Uneducated and unable to farm, such urban poor can easily become gang members, otherwise they cannot survive. And the legion doesn't want such useless people with bad deeds at all. The cost of reforming these people is too high, and execution is the easiest.

With Raphael's gesture,

The captives were divided into two parts. They were embarrassed and trembling, knowing in their hearts that only some of them could continue to live. In the windswept wilderness, they tremblingly waited for their fate.

"On the order of Victor Hugo, the commander of the army, execute useless people." With a wave of Raphael's hand, his soldiers shot at a row of captives. The captive on the other side cried out in fright, and was kicked up again soon.

"Drink some water and eat something. You can survive." Rafael stepped on his military boots and walked slowly in front of the remaining captives. The blood soaked the soles of his feet, leaving blood marks one by one. "You must be loyal to Captain Victor Hugo, even superficial loyalty is necessary."

The prisoners who were still alive either cried loudly or nodded in front of food and water. Raphael didn't care whether they understood or not, he only looked in the direction of Mexico City in the distance.

Collect the prisoners, clean the battlefield, and pick up the equipment of about six divisions for nothing. The Mexican Front of the entire Aurora Legion suddenly changed their guns. When Zhang Hong's first regiment of guards arrived, Roma had already moved forward and approached Campeche, the last city in the Yucatan Peninsula controlled by the enemy.

So Campeche simply surrendered....

The building will fall, and everyone flees. Although there is still a thousand kilometers away from the Yucatan Peninsula to Mexico City, there are dozens of cities. But on the next road, no one can stop the advance of the Aurora Legion.

Raphael's receiving army moved forward slowly, basically as easy as an outing, and the enemy troops encountered along the way either surrendered or abandoned their defenses. The biggest worry of the Aurora Legion is how to feed the civilians left behind by the enemy. Those mouths waiting to be fed can swallow a mountain of food.

And in Mexico City, thousands of miles away, it was really gloomy and cloudy. As a big boss, Suzano escaped after going through ups and downs all the way, and finally there are a few loyal subordinates in the city who are willing to continue to surround him.

In the National Palace, the zombie president once again convened the cabinet and family members to discuss countermeasures. In the parliament hall, the emaciated president called with a hoarse voice: "We have not completely failed, and we still have a chance to keep our foundation. The key is to raise food and money."

Even Suzano bowed his head this time, dejectedly. The president on the rostrum called again and asked, "Suzano, how much do you pay?"

"I..., I will offer 50,000 gold coins." Suzano hesitated for a while, as if he felt that he could add more, "I can also offer another 500 tons of grain."

Hearing this, the Zombie President almost died of anger, "Suzano, don't you think I don't know how much money you have? In the past two years, you have made a hundred times as much money as you have earned. It's only now that you come out. Fifty thousand gold coins and five hundred tons of grain?"

If it is an ordinary person, it is really amazing to pay 50,000 gold coins. But Suzano has been rampant throughout Mexico for the past two years, and people all over the country are trying to honor him. The wealth he scooped up is completely astronomical. A large number of people across the country are starving to death, but his family's food is so much that it will rot.

"But I really don't have any money." Suzano lost his tough aura this time, but instead acted like a fool. He swore to the sky: "All my money has been spent on forming troops. Now we have lost nine divisions. The huge financial and material resources I spent are all gone. I really have no money."

The Zombie President stared at Suzano, who was about to lie on the ground. He couldn't imagine that this domineering guy in the past would become as disgusting as a lump of snot.

"Suzano, you get two million gold coins and 30,000 tons of grain. This is the bottom line." If the zombie president can do it, he really wishes he could drag Suzano out and shoot him. But now he can only coerce and lure: "You take out the money and food, and I will give you the position of president."

Suzano was stunned for a few seconds when he heard this, but quickly shook his head and refused. Whoever becomes the president of Mexico now faces a huge problem. The moment he sits on the throne, he will be roasted on the fire, so he doesn't want to be a president.

Boss Suzano is unwilling to give money and food, and other people in the parliament hall will not be generous. The result is that the zombie president lowered his posture and almost begged everyone to save the country, but the dignitaries who have been lying on the country's body and sucking blood did not respond to this.

In the end, the zombie president lost his temper completely - since no one wants to save themselves, then everyone should die.
