Chapter 44: Danger
The hunting in the deep forest is still going on.
Bear-shaped Wendiego smashed through the snow and launched the first surprise attack.
With his claws stepping on the ice and snow, the turbid yellow animal pupils under the skull mask locked onto the Horned Deer King in front of him. The moment he got close, his hind legs suddenly exerted force and flew out. His front claws lingered in the snow and condensed into sharp ice crystals, and slapped the neck of the Horned Deer King.
Almost at the same time, the Horned Deer King jumped up at a faster speed, and arrived first. His four hooves stepped on the head of Bear-shaped Wendiego in succession, stepping on his exposed skull to create multiple cracks.
Leaping into the air, the Horned Deer King swung his horns and knocked away the short and strong Wendiego who jumped down from the branches above. Then he activated his ability again, and immediately a nearby Wendiego rose out of thin air, and his neck was forcibly twisted by an invisible force.
Adjusting his position when landing, the Horned Deer King looked at the many monsters in front of him who had no intention of retreating at all, and roared in a low voice.
The extreme cold weather caused severe damage to the deer herd. Although the horned deer belonged to mutant creatures and their physiques had been greatly enhanced, and the deer king was accompanied by young and strong men, the intensity of the blizzard was beyond expectations.
The sudden monster attack posed a huge threat to the deer herd.
As the leader of the herd, it could only choose to lead the monsters away from the herd alone and let them go to the camp where it would go every day recently. It believed that the human would help it protect the deer herd.
To ensure that the deer herd could arrive at the camp safely, the horned deer king had to let these monsters catch up with him.
Now that it was surrounded, it had to delay time for the herd as much as possible.
The monsters that were hit hard one after another continued to move forward, suppressing the activity space of the horned deer king from all directions.
These Wendiegos who came from nowhere had no emotions at all except the desire to kill and destroy. They trampled on the bodies of their own people who were gradually frosted, and dozens of cruel eyes stared at the horned deer king.
They were eager to kill this powerful life, tear its flesh and devour its soul.
The first round of raids failed because they were not numerous enough, giving the Shocked Deer King the opportunity to defeat them one by one. This time, they swarmed in and attacked from all directions, not giving the Shocked Deer King any chance to escape.
They were like hyenas in the wilderness, first guerrilla exploration, and then swarming in when they found an opportunity.
In just a few seconds, the Shocked Deer King was surrounded by various forms of Wendiego, forcing it to forcibly activate its ability and trigger shock waves around its body to repel the Wendiego.
However, in recent days, the Shocked Deer King has been leading the tribe to forage and move in the blizzard, which has consumed his energy all the time. Tonight, in order to save the tribe, he has been dealing with these monsters for a long time, and his strength has inevitably declined.
The shock wave failed to fend off all the Wendiego. Although these monsters have different forms, they generally have the ability to control ice and snow in a small range.
The frightened horned deer king, who was surrounded by enemies, initially used its hind hooves, horns and its own extraordinary abilities to continuously repel Wendiego, causing casualties to them.
However, as time went on, it could clearly feel that its body was getting heavier.
It was not only because of the consumption of physical strength, but more because the snow on its body was getting thicker and thicker. These snow that could have been shaken off by movement were seized by Wendiego and forcibly frozen on its back.
It was like putting a layer of ice armor on the frightened horned deer king out of thin air, which seemed to increase its defense, but actually made it lose its flexibility.
After all, the frightened horned deer was not one of those brutal beasts that could be called killing machines. Once it lost the ability to dodge, it would be easy for the monsters to find a breakthrough because of its lack of physical strength.
As jumping became more and more difficult, the frightened horned deer king gradually fell into a disadvantage. It had to spend more energy to dodge the monsters' claws and ice balls, and soon its body became scarred.
The abdomen and neck were covered with scratches and blunt injuries from the ice, which gradually put the Shocked Horned Deer King into a vicious cycle.
It couldn't stop, and the constant struggle would make its injuries worse, and then it would be seized by Wendiego and others.
In fact, some monsters had already focused on the legs of the Shocked Horned Deer King. When it kicked another of its kind with its hind hooves, it suddenly lowered its body, opened its bloody mouth, and gnawed at its legs.
But before it succeeded, a long-handled axe flew in the wind and snow, and the axe blade chopped into the back of the monster's head, causing it to fall to the ground.
The hunt was interrupted, and several monsters in the group immediately rushed towards the guys who came to disturb their hunting.
The scarred Shocked Horned Deer King saw the Leviathan Axe, and his tired spirit was lifted. He looked up at the direction where the axe flew.
Two beams of light pierced through the dark snow curtain, and a figure rushed out from the forest and collided with several monsters head-on.
It was Yu Ke who came to look for the Shocked Deer King!
The deer appeared on the forest road and the Shocked Deer King disappeared. Yu Ke immediately realized that the former must have encountered trouble. He searched all the way here and finally found it by relying on the high perception to hear the deer call.
Looking at the Shocked Deer King who was still fighting with Wen Diego, Yu Ke couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
What he feared most was that he finally found the target, but saw only a dead body.
Not only could he not save the Shocked Deer King, but he would also put himself in danger.
As long as he caught up, everything would be fine!
Yu Ke dodged the claw attack and punched its jaw. He took out the Gurkha knife with his left hand and stabbed it into its eye socket.
Just as he was about to draw his knife, another leopard-shaped Wendiego bit Yu Ke's wrist.
He had no choice but to withdraw his hand to avoid it. As he did so, he heard the sound of clothes tearing and a burning pain.
He looked sideways and found that it was the four-armed Wendiego who had lurked behind him.
This was the first time Yu Ke was surrounded and killed, and in such a harsh environment.
He had to deal with attacks from all directions every second.
Even if his strength was enough to crush a single Wendiego, his current counterattack methods were somewhat stretched.
He had to change the status quo, at least he couldn't get stuck here and let these monsters divide the battlefield.
"Deer King, come help me, fight with me!"
Regardless of the injury on his back, Yu Ke bent over and grabbed the front paw of the leopard-shaped Wendiego, and suddenly exerted force to make it hit the four-armed Wendiego behind him with an over-the-shoulder throw, buying himself a little space and running towards the Shocked Horned Deer King.
At the same time, he waved his arms, signaling it to come closer to him.
Because Yu Ke shared the pressure, the Shocked Horned Deer King also broke out forcefully, using his extraordinary ability to force a gap, lowered his head and used his horns to pick up the Leviathan Axe, throwing it towards Yu Ke while running wildly.
One person and one deer ran in both directions.
At the moment of meeting, Yu Ke grabbed the falling Leviathan Axe with his right hand, grabbed the drooping horns of the Shocked Horned Deer King with his left hand, turned over and climbed onto its back, noticed the abnormality behind it, and smashed the ice with the axe handle with his backhand.
Wen Diego, who had come to his senses, was still gathering here, but Yu Ke patted the neck of the Frightened Deer King and raised his axe towards the smaller group of monsters.
