Chapter 321 Police Officer
After checking his preparations, Yuri changed into the suit. This seemingly ordinary combat suit has strong defensive properties. It is made of nanomaterials and can withstand the shooting of some small-caliber firearms.
After that, he took some grenades and bullets, took out a stack of cash from the safe and walked out of the warehouse.
His own car was parked near the warehouse. He put the bag in the back seat, lit a cigarette for himself, took a deep breath, and counted out a thousand pounds in cash and put it in an envelope.
He didn't get into the car until he finished smoking a cigarette and went to Cobain.
Cobain leaned against the police car and was using the car radio to get the latest situation from his colleagues. When he saw Yuri coming, he found an excuse to hang up the radio.
"So, are you going to chase the ambulance?"
"Believe me, Cobain, those people are more useful outside than in the police station." Yuri took out the envelope and handed it over.
Coben let out a long breath. Although he was used to it, he would hesitate for a while every time he received the money.
He reached out to take the envelope. He knew how much money was in it without counting. One thousand pounds. Every time Yuri asked him for something, it was this price.
One thousand pounds. Not too much, not too little. It was enough for Coben, a small town policeman, to be comfortable for a long time. At least he would not worry about his wife's medical expenses in the short term. You know, the consultation fee of a psychiatrist is terrifyingly high.
"How is Ashley?"
Yuri's question made Coben feel dry in the mouth. If possible, he didn't want to mention his wife's condition to anyone, even if the other party was just a simple greeting.
After the Iron Bridge incident, some bad things followed him back home. They didn't attack him, but found his sensitive wife.
If Yuri hadn't rescued him, I'm afraid he and his beloved wife would be lying in the church cemetery now. Although his life was saved, his wife also fell into madness.
He had to hide his fear and weave lies to comfort his wife. With the help of doctors, medicine and his company, Ashley finally returned to normal, at least it seemed so.
"Not bad, at least she won't forget to boil water now."
Yuri nodded, said nothing more, started the car and left here.
Coben weighed the envelope in his hand, opened the car door and got in. He planned to visit his wife on the way, sometimes she would wake up in her dream.
Telford's residential area.
Coben parked the car in front of his house and walked into the house quietly. There were no lights on in the living room and bedroom, which meant that his wife did not wake up, which was a good sign.
He came to the living room quietly to find some water to drink. What happened today made everyone busy, and he rarely had a little rest time.
Just when he turned on the light in the living room, the man sitting at the dining table almost scared him to have a heart attack. As a policeman who has been working for nearly 20 years, he instinctively took out his gun.
Xing Ze put his index finger on his lips and said, "Your wife just went to bed, Ashley, right? I made her some hot milk and read a passage from Longfellow's "The Praise of Life". She probably fell asleep in the twelfth section."
"What do you want?" Cobain stared at the person in front of him nervously. He clearly remembered what happened in the barn and knew that the gun in his hand would not play a big role.
But what else could he do? Throw away the gun, open his arms and tell the other party that it was all a misunderstanding, and then welcome him to come uninvited?
Cobain had expected his death, but he didn't expect it to be so soon. He secretly glanced at the bedroom. Even if there was a slight possibility, he wanted his wife to survive.
"Put down the gun, Cobain. For yourself and for your wife." Xing Ze said lightly.
"What did you do to my wife? Did you kill her?"
"I'm not a person who likes to kill innocent people. Your wife has nothing to do with what you did. Of course, if you want to live, don't be impulsive. You know very well that you can't hurt me with just that gun."
Xing Ze's words shook Cobain's heart. He was not afraid of death. After experiencing the Iron Bridge incident, he had long seen through life and death, but he was worried about his wife. She couldn't take care of herself in her current state, and they didn't have any children.
The best result is that Ashley was sent to a sanatorium after his death, but generally speaking, patients like her would only be sent to a mental hospital. Cobain knew what a mental hospital looked like, and he would never let this happen.
After weighing the pros and cons, he put down the gun in his hand and begged, "Can I go see her?"
"Please." Xing Ze said generously.
Cobain took a deep breath, adjusted his mood, and then walked to the bedroom door. He hesitated at the door, and finally reached out and opened the door carefully.
Ashley was lying peacefully in bed. Just as the man said, there was a glass with some milk left in it on her bedside table, and a book of "Selected Poems of Longfellow" next to it.
The old police officer was a little uncertain. He couldn't figure out what the man outside meant. In Yuri's eyes, the guy was extremely dangerous. He could kill people with a single move. What's more, it was questionable whether he was human.
He closed the door gently and walked back to the living room.
"What do you want?"
"About the person you're with." Xing Ze said, "I need all the information about him."
Coben expected this to happen. He took the cup and walked to the kitchen. He bent down and took out a bottle of whiskey from under the sink. There was still one-third of the wine left in the cup.
"Would you like some?" he asked the strange young man.
"No. I have tea. Oh, I hope you don't mind. I took some of your tea without permission."
Coben didn't reply, but silently poured a little whiskey into his teacup. After taking a sip, he asked, "Are you going to kill him?"
"It depends on the situation. If he poses a threat to me, then I can only kill him. If he is willing to talk to me like you, maybe it won't develop to that point."
A short silence.
The dripping sound of the kitchen water pipe echoed in his ears. Xing Ze picked up the teacup and took a sip of tea. He didn't mind waiting. After arriving at the hotel, he was a step late. The traversers were surrounded by the police. He couldn't act rashly, so he could only watch from a distance.
Blue Beak followed the ambulance, so he didn't worry about losing those people. What he wants to know more now is who Yuri is, who messed up his plan.
After all, some low-level spells don't work on that person. Who can guarantee that he has a trick up his sleeve? If he suffers a loss again, it will be more trouble than gain.
