Iron Powder and Spellcaster

Chapter 111 Breaking the City

"My lord... you're right in front." Tanirya, who was forced to lead the way, stumbled ahead, covering the wound on his head and trembling.

The people behind him frightened him from the bottom of his heart. This Tanirian veteran had never seen such a fierce warrior - he rushed into the crowd with musket fire and hacked an entire team of musketeers to death.

Jiang Bing's legs were shaking uncontrollably, and fear made him look back involuntarily.

Seeing these small actions, Winters, in a furious state, hit the soldier on the back of the head with the butt of his rifle.

The surrendered soldier was beaten so hard that he fell into the muddy water. He didn't dare to waste a second and got up. He choked and prayed and walked forward.

The Veneta people, who had no scruples, directly blasted open the mouth of the volcanic lake on the top of the mountain. The water poured down along the original creek bed and poured into the tower city as the first wave of the Veneta people's offensive.

Several hours of fierce fighting ensued. The Veneta soldiers broke through the trenches, earth embankments, and the will of the Tanirians in one go, and the defense of the city within the city collapsed.

This "sieged city" has fallen into complete chaos. There are still Tanirian soldiers hiding in houses to resist, while the red-eyed Veneta soldiers kill everyone on sight.

Winters turned a blind eye to all this, and he and Major Moritz got separated in the melee - but it didn't matter, because he only wanted to be alone.

"This is right here, sir." Jiang Bing pointed at the old residence of the Earl of Red Sulfur Island tremblingly, not even daring to look back. Then he heard the sound of a weapon being drawn. Jiang Bing closed his eyes subconsciously.

"roll!"

Taniriya surrendered his troops and fled away as if he had been granted amnesty.

Winters burst open the wooden tower door and roared the name: "William Kidd!"

The last few Union guards in the tower rushed down the stairs, and were killed by Winters. After each kill, he yelled, "William Kidd!"

The roar echoed in the tower like a life-threatening curse. The last guard was so frightened by the death-like Winters that he threw away his weapon and jumped out of the window to escape in haste.

At the top of the tower he found William Kidd.

William Kidd sat in his chair, seemingly unsurprised by the moment.

Compared with the high-spirited captain when they first met, the William Kidd in front of him has been completely exhausted: his temples and cheeks are deeply sunken, his eyes are tired and haggard, and his shoulders have become as thin as leaves. They were originally broad. Only bones are left in his wrist.

But even with only a layer of skin left, Winters recognized the face. He was sure it was William Kidd.

"Oh, Veneta guys, you win...for now." William Kidd on the chair looked unusually calm: "Kill me and go get the reward."

But the next moment, he was picked up from the chair by Winters and thrown to the ground.

Kidd groaned in pain, and the furious Winters stepped on William Kidd's chest and gritted his teeth and asked: "Do you think I care about that shit?"

After saying that, he punched William Kidd twice hard in the face.

William Kidd was beaten until his mouth was full of blood, his nose was broken, and red liquid flowed uncontrollably from his nostrils.

"I just want to ask you one thing." Winters gasped, spat out a mouthful of blood, put the tip of the knife against William Kidd's neck and asked sternly: "Where is your wizard?"

"Hahahaha..." Hearing Winters' words, William Kidd let out a creepy laugh, as if he had heard the most ridiculous joke.

He laughed so hard that he choked on the blood in his mouth.

He blushed and coughed, and his facial features showed a sickly red color: "You... don't know anything... right... hahahahaha..."

Winters didn't talk nonsense to him. He raised his knife and chopped off William Kidd's right index finger: "Where is your wizard?"

"Ah!!!!!!!!!" The fingers connected with each other, and the heartbreaking pain came from his hands. William Kidd screamed and tried to cover the wound, but his arm was stepped on by Winters. Stop, the pain made him roll on the spot.

"Where is your wizard?"

This time, William Kidd's middle finger separated from his right hand.

William Kidd's whole body curled up due to violent spasms. He could no longer even make a complete scream, and only intermittent low and broken sounds came out of his throat.

"Where is your wizard?"

William Kidd lost another finger, and his consciousness began to blur.

"Where is your wizard?" Winters asked repeatedly: "Where is your wizard?"

"Where is your wizard?"

Major Moritz, who led the other living spellcasters to the tower, was shocked by what he saw.

"Winters! What are you doing?!" Moritz strode over and dragged Winters away from the unconscious William Kidd: "Calm down!"

"Let me go!" Winters struggled and roared like a mad brown bear: "William Kidd knows who that magician is! He knows! He knows it all! Let me go! XXX let me go!"

"Lello! Joshua! Carry William Kidd away!" Moritz and Pisani couldn't hold Winters down even with their combined efforts, and immediately ordered others to take William Kidd away: "Hurry up and take him away." He stopped the bleeding, and Major General Serbetti called the names of those who wanted to live!"

William Kidd was quickly carried off the tower, while the Major and Pizarro held on to Winters to prevent him from pursuing him.

"I'm more sad than you that Field died!" Moritz pressed his forehead against Winters' forehead: "But people always die in war! Do you understand? Field does not need you to avenge him! Do you understand?"

I don't know how long it took before Winters returned to normal from his rage. He suddenly felt very tired, as if all the strength in his body had been drained out of him, and the saber in his hand fell to the ground.

Moritz finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Winters was no longer out of control.

Seeing Winters' blood-stained armor and clothes, the major quickly ordered Second Lieutenant Pizarro and another second lieutenant to "escort" Winters to the army doctor to treat his injuries.

Looking at the dark red blood stains on the floor of the tower, Lieutenant Kirk said to the Major with lingering fear: "This little guy... is completely different from the normal person when he goes crazy! It's like... like there's a different person in the skin." The same soul..."

Moritz watched Winters' back walking towards the camp from the tower and sighed.

Outside the military medical clinic, Winters said to the two second lieutenants who were "escorting" him: "Two seniors, there is no need to follow me anymore. Don't worry, I won't go looking for William Kidd."

Pizarro looked at Winters for a while, and seeing that Winters really seemed to be back to normal, he nodded lightly: "Okay, if you need help, just come to me."

Winters also nodded and walked into the medical clinic.

Kane, the army doctor, was almost frightened by Winters' appearance. Kane's assistant helped Winters take off his breastplate. There were two terrible dents on the front of the breastplate.

Dr. Kane pointed to these two depressions and asked Winters: "How did it get like this?"

"It was shot by muskets." Winters recalled the previous fierce battle and replied: "Maybe it was far away and it didn't penetrate."

"Take off your clothes and let me check you out."

"It's not penetrated, and the breastplate doesn't fit tightly. It's okay."

"It's not as simple as you think. Just because the musket didn't penetrate your breastplate doesn't mean you weren't injured." Kane insisted, "Take off your clothes and I'll check it for you."

"Mr. Kane," Winters said tiredly, "You'd better take care of my left arm first."

"Your left arm?" Kane looked at Winters' left sleeve, which was covered in mud and blood: "What's wrong?"

"I was hit by an arrow while crossing the ditch," Winters replied lightly.

"Where's the arrow?!" Kane was surprised.

"I pulled it out myself."

Kane yelled angrily: "Mr. Montagne! Do you want your life?!"

"Am I not dead?" Winters chuckled and said, "Just wash my wound and sew it up."

With that said, Winters started to take off his military uniform.

"Don't move!" Kane yelled, "Don't move! I'll cut it open for you with scissors! Don't move!"

Dr. Kane went to get the scissors, and Winters suddenly felt as if his internal organs were surging, his throat felt stiff, and then a huge force came up from deep in his chest.

Winters held onto Kane's assistant and retched involuntarily. The violent retching made him feel as if his internal organs had been displaced, but he vomited nothing.

Kane strode back to Winters and quickly cut open Winters' uniform.

At the locations corresponding to the two bullet marks on the breastplate, bruises bloomed on Winters' chest like two purple flowers.

"I still don't understand that Tacheng is an isolated city destined to fall." Antonio sat next to the dying William Kidd, his tone was like chatting with an old friend: "You know you will lose, why don't you Are you willing to surrender?"

"What about you?" William Kidd, who was lying on the bed unable to move, struggled to speak out the words: "If... you were me... would you surrender?"

Antonio was silent.

"If I... Kaicheng surrenders." William Kidd actually managed a smile: "I'm afraid I don't want to make you think... there is no one in the islands..."

"Do you have anything else to say?" Antonio stood up.

William Kidd replied not to be outdone: "Do you have...anything else to ask?"

After walking out of the room where William Kidd was held, Major Moritz was waiting for Antonio outside.

"Have you found the Tanirian magician?" Antonio asked bluntly.

"Sorry, legion commander, no." Major Moritz shook his head: "The sources of prisoners are so mixed that it is almost impossible to effectively screen them. General Layton said, otherwise we should just kill them all."

"This is the last resort. Okay, leave this matter to me and Layton, you don't have to worry about it." Antonio and Moritz walked side by side to the headquarters and praised: "You and your team of spellcasters have done this." That's great, Layton and I will take credit for you. What do you think about turning this caster team into a permanent organization?"

"It's difficult to achieve." Moritz shook his head: "General, all spell casters in the army are officers. How can any officer be willing to be used as a soldier? There is actually a conflict between the identities of spell casters and commanders. Officers There is no need for strong personal combat power, and the role of the spell caster will be hindered by the command function. Maybe... the empire's method of using court mages is the right idea..."

Fifteen days after the Veneta army captured Tacheng.

The door of Anna's studio in the Navarre Manor was suddenly pushed open, and Elizabeth burst in violently.

"What's wrong with you?" Anna looked away from the canvas slightly.

Elizabeth Serbetti hugged Anna and said breathlessly: "I...my brother is back!"

With a snap, the drawing knife in Anna's hand fell to the ground.

"What does it have to do with me if he comes back?" Anna guiltily bent down to pick up the scraper and played with the paint bottle unconsciously.

Elizabeth couldn't help laughing: "Then why are you blushing?"

"Nonsense! Why am I blushing?" Anna threw away the drawing knife angrily and covered her cheeks.

"Okay, I'm leaving!" With that, Elizabeth stood up and was about to leave.

"Wait, don't go!" Anna grabbed Elizabeth's clothes.

"What's the matter?" Elizabeth asked with a smirk.

"Don't go, Ella." Anna blushed and asked, "Mr. Montagne...where is he now? Has he gone home?"

"No, he went to the Army Headquarters to report on his duties before returning to Hailan. He will go home after finishing his work there."

After leaving the army headquarters, Winters said goodbye to the others and walked straight home.

Having become accustomed to the smell of sulfur, fishy smell and gunpowder smoke during sieges, Winters suddenly returned to the noisy and busy Hailan. Winters only felt a huge sense of being out of place, as if he was an outsider from another world. Everything in front of me seemed normal, yet seemed very abnormal.

A black carriage parked in front of the house, and Winters saw Ella's smiling face in the car window. Elizabeth waved to Winters and motioned for him to get in the car.

It wasn't until he opened the door that Winters discovered that there was another person in the car - Anna was also there.

Before Winters could react, Elizabeth had jumped off the carriage and pushed Winters into the carriage. After saying "I won't disturb you", he quickly ran into the house.

Anna was also startled. When she came to her senses, she and Mr. Montagne were the only two people left in the carriage.

Thinking of the brief reply, Anna calmed down - even now she still feels sad when thinking of that letter. She took out the ceremonial sword that Winters gave her from the secret compartment behind her. She convinced herself that the reason for coming to see Winters was to "return the sword to that bad guy."

But when she held the sword in her hand and was about to say the most heartless and hurtful words, she was surprised to find that the bad guy in front of her was looking at her in ecstasy, with red eye circles and transparent liquid slowly flowing from his eyes. Down.

Is he...crying?

Anna panicked all of a sudden, and the words she had spent so many sleepless nights thinking about to take revenge on this bad guy were completely forgotten in an instant.

She helplessly reached out to wipe his tears and subconsciously held him in her arms.

Winters just leaned on Anna's shoulder, sobbing quietly. Anna didn't know what he had gone through or why he was so sad. She just stroked Winters' hair gently, over and over again.
