Chapter 419 Soul and Mind, Dumbledore's Answer
"Collins, do you have any more questions?" Dumbledore continued to ask.
"That's too many!" Andy was a little helpless.
Andy had a lot of questions to ask, and there were a lot of unknown things. But Dumbledore was neither Andy's personal grandfather nor the artificial intelligence of the system.
He would not answer questions that were too confidential.
Sometimes Andy really wanted to kill Dumbledore, and then put his soul in his pocket and carry it with him.
And then... ask whatever he didn't know.
If it really doesn't work, put Grindelwald in your pocket!
As for Voldemort... well! Voldemort is fine. People whose souls are split into several pieces can no longer communicate normally.
Dumbledore smiled and suddenly said, "You might be interested in the soul."
"From a magical perspective, the soul is the essence of human existence. It is an entity beyond matter and has independent consciousness and will."
"The soul is considered eternal and not limited by time and space."
"The mind is the spiritual power of human beings. It is the driving force that affects behavior and thinking. It is also the center of emotion and perception. We usually use the power of the mind to control magic."
This is really a pleasant surprise!
Andy looked at Dumbledore with surprise.
Principal, please say more!
Snape was also a little surprised. He didn't understand why Dumbledore suddenly said this to Andy.
Dumbledore obviously didn't disappoint Andy. He continued, "The mind is immaterial, but unlike the soul, it is not eternal."
"The soul is an existence beyond human entities and spiritual power. It is considered to be the true face of human existence."
Andy looked at Dumbledore with a look of desire...keep talking!
Dumbledore smiled kindly and indicated that he had finished speaking.
Andy: "..."
That's it?
In a sense, Dumbledore's explanation of the soul is very similar to the theory Andy proposed before.
-The real world is made up of atoms, and the soul does not belong to this world made up of atoms.
The soul transcends the world made up of atoms!
Andy suddenly thought of an interesting point of view.
Some people say that the end of science is theology.
It is said that many well-known scientists are obsessed with the field of theology in their later years.
So...what about the end of magic?
Andy thought, "Magic and science are actually exploring the composition of the world. They seem to be distinct, but the world has always been the same world."
So in the interpretation of the world, magic and science may have some similarities.
"So...the soul is special?"
Andy asked carefully: "And the mind...is our own power?"
"I think so!" Dumbledore nodded.
This statement broke Andy's previous cognition.
Andy had always believed that the mind, thinking, and will all originated from the soul, and the soul is the source of all spiritual power.
But Dumbledore obviously doesn't think so!
In Dumbledore's view, only thinking and will are derived from the power of the soul, while the mind is independent - or, the mind is related to the human body.
"So... what ghosts lack is actually the power of the mind?"
Andy continued to ask: "Mind control magic! So although ghosts have magic, they can't use magic because they lack the power of the mind?"
Andy thought about it carefully.
Ghosts, they have the ability to think and the memory of their previous lives, and they also have magic.
If based on the theory of 'mind control magic', ghosts may really have no mental attributes.
Without mental power, ghosts cannot control magic, and naturally cannot use magic.
According to this theory, Andy also understood why his fat cat patronus is so special.
Because it is composed of Andy's mental power and magic. As long as Andy is alive, it can use all the magic that Andy has mastered - perhaps all white magic.
It is Andy's mental power that supports the fat cat patronus to use magic!
If Andy died...
The Fat Cat Patronus might dissipate, or because of its own special characteristics, it can remain in the world for a while - but it will definitely lose the ability to use magic.
"Yes!"
Dumbledore said: "Ghosts have no mind."
"Ghosts can think, but they lack the motivation to think, so they always find something for themselves. Ghosts can be happy and angry, but they can't remember that feeling."
"Emotions that flash by will soon dissipate."
Andy nodded slightly when he heard this.
Dumbledore had said before that the mind is the driving force of behavior and thinking, and the center of emotion and perception.
There is no motivation for thinking, and no center of emotion...
This sounds a bit miserable!
Andy only knew that few wizards would choose to become ghosts, but he never knew what it felt like to be a ghost.
But now...Andy knows!
"Thank you, professor." Andy said sincerely.
Dumbledore's words solved the problem that Andy had been looking for.
The soul contains thinking and will.
The mind is independent. Its existence may be related to the human body.
Therefore, the [Will] attribute can be immune to the negative effects of black magic.
Because black magic always pollutes the human soul.
The soul has a good side and an evil side.
It's just a matter of choice.
And thinking belongs to the soul, so the soul will think and choose - the soul will choose the good side or the evil side of the soul.
So...
The mind controls magic.
The will resists black magic from polluting the soul.
Andy quickly sorted out the logical relationship here.
It's a bit complicated!
But I have to say that understanding the logical relationship here answered many of Andy's questions.
So Andy sincerely hopes that Dumbledore can live a few more years - his hundred years of life wisdom, as well as the knowledge and insights accumulated over the past hundred years, are of great help to Andy.
Especially this time!
Andy suddenly became enlightened.
"Professor Dumbledore, I want to go back and sort out what I have learned from this conversation. Thank you, it has been a pleasure chatting with you."
Andy stood up and said, "Professor Dumbledore, Professor Snape, goodbye!"
Dumbledore nodded, "Collins, I'm glad you have learned something... Goodbye!"
Andy nodded and then left the principal's office.
Snape: "..."
Snape felt that he was a little redundant here.
Snape listened to the conversation between Andy and Dumbledore from beginning to end. He fully understood the meaning of it, and he could understand what they talked about.
But...what does this have to do with magic?
Soul and mind...isn't this a philosophical question?
