Chapter 188 187 The Three Religions Unite and the Road Goes Alone
"Die by obsession, live by obsession, it is for all living beings."
"Zhu Gu and I are both in the human world, and we are all sentient beings who have accumulated the five aggregates and become human beings. Although I have been practicing for half my life, I am still contaminated by the joys, anger, sorrow, greed, anger, ignorance, and hatred of the world, and I am burdened with suffering and karma. It’s the limitation of all sentient beings like us.”
"As for the Dharma that Zhu Gu seeks, in Zhu Gu's own heart, our disciples' Dharma is shallow, and their vision may not be higher than that of Zhu Gu. If you want to let go of your obsessions, you must start from the heart. Zhu Gu can recite this book more. Haprajnaparamita Heart Sutra.”
"With Zhu Gu's practice, if you often read this sutra, you will definitely have more insights than our disciples." After the old lama finished speaking, he stood up and bowed, took a yellowed sutra from the bookshelf in the side room and put it on the kang seat. Left the wing.
Seeing this, Chen Jue did not speak, but picked up the Heart Sutra and read the contents: "Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, walking in the deep Prajna Paramita for a long time, saw that the five aggregates are empty, and survived all the hardships... …”
The five aggregates here refer to the "color, feeling, thought, action, and consciousness" of Buddhism. As long as you are an individual, you cannot do without the accumulation of these five aggregates. If the five aggregates are all empty, it means that you have reached the highest state of Buddhist practice, which is the state of colorless and formless.
Chen Jue first obtained the golden elixir of Taoism, then practiced Tai Chi with boxing and martial arts, and finally obtained the relics of Buddhism through the Mahamudra of Tantric Buddhism, and achieved the true "indestructible" state of the physical body through Bigu purification.
It's just that these practices are based on the physical body, which can be regarded as combining the strengths of Taoism, Buddhism, and martial arts. However, Chen Jue's mind is still not firm enough, and his Taoist heart has been affected by the impact of the earth-shaking world view.
That is what Buddhism often says: "There is nothing but skin and no bones." The only thing lacking is the subsequent spiritual practice.
You must know that people living in the world cannot escape obsession. Just like Zhao Zhen, although he has practiced yoga Mahamudra to an extremely advanced level, he still has an unparalleled obsession and enthusiasm for "eternal life".
Another example is those emperors throughout history who were very high-spirited when they were young and strong. When they got old, they began to miss the imperial power and wealth, and could not let go of the prosperity of the world. In the end, they did countless ridiculous things in their later years. This is how "poor midnight" came to be. There is a famous saying from time to time like this.
Of course, the reason why Chen Jue stopped in this temple was by chance. When he passed by this temple and saw the seven bowls of water on the altar table, he had some enlightenment and combined it with himself to create a new method of fasting and purifying the body. I thought along the way. Use Buddhism to make up for the deficiencies in your spiritual practice.
It's a pity that obsession is not so easy to eliminate, let alone the obsession of an expert who has practiced to Chen Jue's level.
Reciting the Heart Sutra also has a temporary calming effect. The real way to let go of obsessions is, as the old lama said, you must make up your mind to acquire and understand it yourself.
…
Chen Jue spent the next three days peacefully in this temple.
During the day, he sat cross-legged in front of the ancient Buddha of Qingdeng, chanted sutras and practiced Qigong, and continued to deepen his practice of Tantric Mahamudra. At night, he read Buddhist scriptures in the side room.
All the lamas in the temple respected him very well and did not take the liberty to disturb him. Only the old lama would talk to him.
Of course, when Chen Jue was practicing the "Om Ah Mo" purification mantra in the temple in the past few days, he was surrounded by Buddhist disciples. With the effect of the Sanskrit sound shaking the marrow, all the lamas in the temple felt comfortable. Normally, I would feel drowsy after sitting for a long time, but fellow practitioners Chen Jue and I became increasingly energetic, so we became even more devout and convinced of the magical powers of this living "Zhu Gu".
This situation is just like Buddha preaching to thousands of disciples, Confucius teaching three thousand disciples, Patriarch Chongyang establishing Quanzhen Taoism, etc. In history, these sages among human beings all attracted the support of their disciples because of their advanced cultivation. .
Unfortunately, Chen Jue had no intention of preaching and recruiting disciples. He stayed in this temple for three days, completed the practice of drinking water and fasting, and then embarked on his journey again.
Before leaving, all the lamas in the temple respectfully escorted him out of the temple gate. The old lama who had been sitting with Chen Jue for three days brought a set of heavy velvet cassocks and put it on Chen Jue. He bowed 90 degrees and raised his hands above his head to offer a hada.
Chen Jue did not refuse, knowing that the old lama regarded him as "Zhu Gu". He put on his monk's robes, took the white khata with both hands and wrapped it around his neck. He clasped his hands and bowed goodbye to everyone, turned around and walked into the ice-covered cave. In the grassland, he slowly disappeared from everyone's sight.
…
Because he was in a hurry when he left home, Chen Jue didn't bring any heavy clothes. He happened to get a set of thick cassocks from an old lama, which kept him warm.
In December, it was already snowing heavily in the Qilian Mountains, and there was snow everywhere on the grasslands. As far as Chen Jue could see, there was a vast expanse of white.
Unlike the restricted area of life in Antarctica, human fireworks can still be vaguely seen in the glacial grasslands near the Qilian Mountains. From far away, Chen Jue can see several tents emitting steam and smoke on the wind-cut pastures.
Those are temporary residences for nearby herdsmen to graze their animals. Chen Jue has been to this grassland before and knows the customs here.
Herdsmen like to enclose their pastures with fences and barbed wire. Firstly, they can distinguish their own pastures, and secondly, they can prevent their cattle and sheep from escaping.
In addition, those yaks and sheep will also have some colorful markings on them, so as to avoid confusion and help them identify which ones belong to them.
Chen Jue's roommate Jiang Fan also has a large pasture left by his ancestors in his home, covering several hills. It is often said on the Internet that his home has a "mine" and a "grassland", but his descendants no longer graze and move to the city. Jiang Fan himself even gave up everything in his hometown and rushed to Hangzhou, thousands of kilometers away.
The letting go and giving up involved is not only the comfort of my hometown and old relatives and friends, but also giving up my past. It requires a lot of determination. Fortunately, the ending is happy. Chen Jue, my dormitory friend, is here. Hangcheng reaped the fruits of his career, love and offspring.
In Chen Jue's view, small counties have the comfort and melancholy of small counties, while big cities have the convenience and upward resources of big cities. Everyone has different pursuits.
Just like after he entered the spiritual practice, he went from being confused and wavering in the early stage to becoming more and more determined on his spiritual path, walking step by step with firm steps.
Just like the sound of his feet crunching in the ice and snow on this grassland, surrounded by the continuous Qilian Mountains, with blue sky and white clouds above his head, occasionally mixed with some drifting snow and cold wind.
Although the temperature was cold, Chen Jue felt that he was walking in such an open space, and his heart began to become more and more peaceful. It felt a bit like the mountains and rivers were in a foreign land, and the road was alone.
After walking for about dozens of kilometers, the sun was getting higher. When passing by a herdsman's pasture, Chen Jue took the liberty to enter the herdsman's tent and communicate with the host for a while.
He asked for a bowl of hot water to warm his stomach, and took out the cash that had been in his bag for a long time to buy some beef jerky and milk skin. He planned to go deep into the Qilian Mountains, hoping to use this natural environment to condense own mind and will.
As for the mobile phone, it has long been frozen in this cold place and has lost its function. The battery cannot be guaranteed and it has been turned off.
However, this family of herdsmen, especially the thin man who was dark, wearing a small felt hat and had gentle eyes, saw Chen Jue wearing a cassock and a white khata wrapped around his neck, so they confiscated his money, but instead gave him a gift with great enthusiasm. In order to eat, he obviously regarded him as an ascetic monk in the temple and wanted to form a good relationship with him.
Most of the herdsmen in the area have devout beliefs and honest and simple personalities. They chatted with Chen Jue in extremely informal Mandarin for a few words, and then stuffed a lot of dry food and meat into Chen Jue's backpack.
Chen Jue smiled and thanked the other party. When he was about to say goodbye to them, he heard a commotion in the cowshed next to the tent.
Everyone went to look for the sound and found that a yak covered in brown and black fur had climbed over the fence of the cowshed and was fighting with several yaks in the cowshed. The fight was very fierce.
"Messenger of the mountain god!" the male owner shouted after seeing the wild yak.
According to Tibetan legend, when the first ray of sunshine in the world shone on Mount Kailash, the first yak appeared. In order to gain a foothold on the plateau, their ancestors went to the mountain gods of the Snowy Mountains for help. The mountain gods divided the wild yaks into two groups. Some went down the mountain to help the herdsmen and became domesticated yaks, while some stayed on the mountain to maintain their traditional yaks. of wildness.
After seeing this wild yak, the herdsmen and their family were a little helpless, because in their eyes, these wild yaks are messengers of the mountain god and cannot be slaughtered easily. They can only let it run wild in the cowshed.
The domestic yaks apparently trumpeted in front of the wild yak, and after being knocked over a few times, they all retreated to the corner of the cowshed and shivered.
As for this wild yak, it just ate the fodder in the cowshed. It was not satisfied after eating, and kicked the shelves of the cowshed a few times, damaging several fences. It looked like it was wild and untamable.
Chen Jue saw that the wild yak was bulky and had thick pointed horns. It was estimated that several adults would have difficulty subduing it. In addition, the herdsmen respected these wild yaks like mountain gods and did not dare to use force on them, so he walked up with a smile. He squatted forward, stretched out his hand, grabbed the two cow legs, and lifted the thousand-jin wild yak directly onto his shoulders like a burden.
Then, under the horrified eyes of the herdsmen and family, they carried it out of the cowshed, slowly walked out of the pasture, walked for more than a hundred meters, and placed it steadily on the mountainside outside the pasture.
Surprisingly, after encountering Chen Jue, the wild yak stopped getting angry. Instead, it looked docile, rubbed its head against Chen Jue, and even licked Chen Jue's palm with its tongue.
You know, Chen Jue is now incapacitated, and the body odor emitted from his body makes people feel at peace when they smell it. Naturally, it is also the same when it falls on the breath of this wild yak. It smells like "fairy air", so naturally he wants to get close to Chen Jue .
In addition, Chen Jue has the blessing of [Unity of Man and Nature] and can live in harmony with natural creatures. Even if he interrupts the wild yak's fun, it is still as docile as a domestic puppy, clinging to Chen Jue. , just like the tiger I met in Gongshan Forest.
"You've become more understanding of human nature now!"
"Where was that bullish temper just now?" Chen Jue reached out and patted the wild yak's head, stretched out his hand to brush the other's plush, and said with a slight smile.
As he happened to be heading to the Qilian Mountains, Chen Jue planned to take the wild yak on the road and send it back to the place where it was supposed to live and breed.
As for the family of herdsmen behind them, after seeing Chen Jue dressed in cassock and subduing the wild yak with great power, they all bowed and bowed, shouting: "Mahakara!"
