Chapter 532: What Schiller Is Best at (Part 1)
Left or right is a question.
Before discussing this issue, we must clarify what is left and what is right. Some people may think that communism is left and capitalism is right, which is not entirely correct.
When this concept was first developed, the left represented radicalism and the right represented conservatism. Later, Marx believed that the left represented advanced status and the lower class, while the right represented the conservative system and the powerful class.
In Western socioeconomics, the left represents democracy and the right represents freedom. Yes, democracy and freedom were actually opposing concepts at the beginning.
There is no need to talk about the specific details, but one thing must be mentioned, that is, extreme left and extreme right.
The so-called extreme left, to summarize it with an incompletely accurate but relatively simple and easy-to-understand concept, is to sacrifice personal freedom without a bottom line and serve public security. Everything should be under the control of an absolutely powerful state machine, and individuals do not have any freedom.
The extreme right, on the other hand, is to relax all restrictions, cancel the welfare of the weak, the law of the jungle, the state should not impose any control, implement oligarchic dictatorship, and pursue all freedoms.
I believe that many people can see that, in fact, the Superhero Registration Act is actually a left-leaning bill.
As mentioned before, only the left will pay attention to the safety of the lower class, that is, the so-called public safety, and advocate sacrificing some personal freedom, supporting the weak, and achieving equality.
If it is right-leaning, then simply don't make this bill. The strong superheroes are stronger and the weak are weak. It is their own problem.
But the problem is that this is the United States. The United States is a capitalist country with rampant right-wingers. Why is this the case? It is also related to the concept mentioned before. The capitalists certainly hope that the government will not intervene in the economy. The less they manage, the better. It is best not to give benefits to the lower class at all, so that they don't have to pay taxes.
So, in such a country, why would there be a superhero bill? There are two reasons.
First, in essence, politicians and capitalists are different. Politicians are not based on the gold standard, but on the power standard. Everything they have depends on the size of their power. The priority of anything cannot compare to the power in their hands.
Therefore, ideological struggle is like a gun. It should be fired when it is necessary, and it is better to silence it when it is not necessary. As long as power can be maximized, left or right is not a problem.
Therefore, as long as these superheroes can be controlled and serve their powers, ideology is not the most important.
Second, the law of the jungle pursued by the right wing is not appropriate in this matter, because all ordinary people are weak parties to superheroes. The law of the jungle is not just to give oneself to the superheroes to eat.
When they are strong, they naturally advocate the law of the jungle, but when they are weak, they must propose bills to restrict and supervise the strong. This is why left and right are an eternal proposition, always in a state of swing.
Some people may say that since the left is more inclined to communism and more considerate of the grassroots people, then in this matter, Congress plays the role of a liberator and is a good person.
But it is not that simple. Left and right should not only look at behavior and results, but also at motivation. In other words, in the ideological struggle, if you want to see the essence through appearances, you must look at the first motivation.
The bill proposed by Congress was not essentially for the grassroots people. The statement made by the congressman who presided over the meeting before, "public safety is the top priority of our mission", can be completely reversed.
In fact, public safety is the last thing they consider. The first thing they consider is the size of power, the second thing is the separation of powers, and the third thing is personal interests. Only in the end may the safety of ordinary people be considered.
Or, in fact, they have never considered the safety of ordinary people at all, because they are very clear that once the conflict between superheroes is provoked, the war brought about may threaten public safety, but they don't care at all.
Therefore, if we want to characterize the Superhero Registration Act, we can say that the logic of the content of this bill is left-leaning, but the motivation and the final result must be right-leaning.
After analyzing this point, let's look at the choices of everyone in the original comics.
Iron Man chose to agree to the bill, while Captain America chose to disagree. This is not essentially because Iron Man protects ordinary people and Captain America protects superheroes, but because the congressman used this bill to create a trap.
That is, they showed Iron Man the left-leaning part of the bill. With Iron Man's wisdom, he could understand that the bill was actually left-leaning and could protect ordinary people if it was implemented effectively.
But what they showed Captain America was the extreme left part of the bill, which was excessive sacrifice of personal freedom to achieve power, and also included the result of both sides being hurt if it could not be implemented effectively.
In essence, the two of them saw different parts of the plan, and it cannot be said who was wrong. If we must find a culprit for the civil war, it is the person who came up with the bill and used word games and information gaps to divide the two.
According to this logic, there are many ways to crack the issue of the superhero bill leading to a civil war.
For example, acting as a bridge in the middle to eliminate the information gap between the two people, that is, to make them understand each other's pursuit and worries.
This method is likely to ease the conflict and let them sit down and talk, but the final result is very likely to still implement the registration bill, but it will become softer, from left-leaning to a left-leaning middle line, then the ultimate goal of the bill will also change from expanding powers to stabilizing.
On the surface, this is a win-win for all parties, but in fact, the superhero still took a step back, and if there is a first step, there will be a second and third step,
But in fact, there is a more labor-saving way.
Left and right, like the direction in reality, are contrasted.
Compared with the extreme right that requires the government to implement oligarchy without interference, the right-wing that only requires the government not to pay too much attention to the economy appears to be very left.
Similarly, compared with the radical far-left Schiller who requires superheroes to completely give up their personal information freedom and hand it over to the state forcibly to control, the entire bill appears to be very conservative and right-leaning.
The so-called solution to this problem is actually that when the left-leaning bill appears to be very right-leaning when compared with the far-left, the information seen by Iron Man and Captain America is actually the same, and there is no so-called information gap between the content and the motivation.
At the same time, due to the comparison, Iron Man, who was originally slightly left-leaning, and Captain America, who was conservative and right-leaning, were both kicked into the right-wing elements by the far-left Schiller, and naturally stood in the same camp.
As long as you are not as left as me, you are all right.
The question is, how can Iron Man and Captain America be more left-wing than Schiller?
Schiller is no longer left-wing. He intends to carry America on the car, turn the steering wheel to the left, and then step on the accelerator...
The question is, it is to speed up.
Hearing Schiller's outrageous plan, Captain America certainly couldn't agree. He slapped the table, stood up and said:
"I don't agree! Schiller, you're crazy!"
"Captain America..." Schiller sighed, his tone returned to calm, no longer so fanatical, but more dangerous. He walked out of his table, came to the center of the venue, looked into Steve's eyes and said:
"You have participated in so many wars. When you see your comrades injured, bleeding, and dying on the front line, will you feel sad?"
Steve also walked out and said, "Of course I will. It is precisely because I don't want my current comrades to repeat this tragedy that I don't want them to become tools of government manipulation."
"Then ask yourself, will they regret it?"
Steve pursed his lips and said, "No, of course they won't regret it. They are all real steel warriors. How can they regret it if they bleed but don't cry?"
"Then why don't they regret it?"
Steve looked at Schiller in silence, and Schiller also stared at him. Steve saw a familiar light in Schiller's eyes.
"They don't regret it because they know that they fight and bleed on the front line to protect the ordinary people behind them. They sacrifice themselves for the billions of lives behind them."
"Then, you who once fought side by side with them, why are you unwilling to sacrifice yourself for the ordinary people behind you?"
"The registration bill doesn't even ask you to bleed and die. It only requires you to give your information and accept supervision, which is reasonable."
"Your comrades have paid so much, including their most precious lives, just to prevent ordinary people from being caught in the flames of war..."
"And now, if you reject this bill, ordinary people will be in danger of superheroes suddenly erupting at all times. You didn't let the times go backwards, but you let the spirit go backwards."
"Captain America, you miss that era, but that era may not miss you, because you don't deserve it."
Stark, who was sitting on the other side, saw that Steve had a painful expression on his face.
It's hard for you to debate in front of a psychiatrist who has treated you before, because he will always use your former weaknesses as a sword. At this moment, words are more powerful than fists.
"Stop it, Schiller!" Stark came out from behind the table and said, "I'm not questioning your beliefs, but the method you're talking about is too absurd, no one will accept it."
Schiller also looked into his eyes and said, "It's like a scale, one side is your personal information, the other side is public safety, do you think your personal information is more important than the lives of ordinary people?"
"I don't think so." Stark denied it, but he still couldn't say the words "I can consider it" that were on his lips before.
Schiller raised the bar too high. If he followed Schiller's words now, the next step would be to liberate Washington.
What's more, others don't know, but doesn't he? Schiller is crazy enough to want to revive the Soviet Union. Now, Schiller's foot is on the accelerator. He will try every possible way to find all the reasons to step on it. Stark must not give Schiller this opportunity.
So, although Stark agrees with the concept of this bill, he can't say he agrees now. If he says he agrees, it's like filling the tank with oil. The oil is already filled, and Schiller steps on the accelerator, the red ghost will really be resurrected in North America.
So, Stark and Schiller began to debate.
But as we all know, the more extreme the speech, the more aggressive it is, and the more advantageous it will be in the debate. Schiller has firmly grasped the core idea of the extreme left, everything serves the public, everyone will be selfless, and become a part of the country, so that true equality and democracy can be achieved.
So, if Stark still holds on to that right-leaning theory, it is impossible to beat Schiller, so he must move more and more to the right until he reaches the extreme right, and then he can compete with Schiller.
Then the question is, can Congress accept the extreme left? Or can they accept the extreme right?
In fact, none of them can accept it.
The extreme left means that the red ghost is about to revive, and the extreme right means that the government's power is weakened to the minimum, and the economic oligarchs have the upper hand, which is not what they want at all.
It's like asking them to choose shit-smelling shit or shit-smelling shit.
They actually just want to make a bill to make the superheroes and SHIELD fight each other internally, so as to enhance their own power. How come it suddenly becomes a life-and-death ideological struggle?
But now, the ceiling has been blown away by Schiller, and the superheroes present have been entangled in the increasingly fierce debate between him and Stark.
Debates between smart people are often very inflammatory, and the atmosphere has been laid here. If the future direction of the United States is not decided today, it will never end well, at least the superheroes who are watching think so.
But the problem is that Congress is not going to engage in ideological struggles at all. Everyone knows that once this struggle begins, everyone present, whether they are left-leaning or right-leaning, will not escape the terrifying purge.
Finally, one of the congressional chairmen couldn't stand it anymore. He slapped the table and said, "Both sides, go back to your seats! Quiet! Listen to me! Stop!!"
What he was going to say next was to let both sides think calmly and not escalate the situation to an extreme level. Then he said some clichés that were usually used to break up the fight and announced the end of the meeting.
He would hold another meeting another day, exclude this extremist Moonlight Knight, and then use other reasons to provoke Iron Man and Captain America.
But just as he was about to say this, Schiller pointed his hand, and a silver light hit the congressman. He suddenly found that he couldn't make a sound.
At this time, he heard Schiller say:
"In order to prove that I am not just talking nonsense, I am willing to set an example and take the lead in announcing my true identity and specific abilities, which has shown my determination to maintain public safety."
As he said this, the silver on his body slowly faded, and the iron mask on his mouth also disappeared. After Schiller showed his face, not many people recognized him because he didn't often appear in front of the screen. Next, he began to introduce himself.
"I know that not many people know me, but I must introduce myself. My name is Schiller Rodriguez. I am a psychologist and a psychiatrist. You can see my papers in major journals. I am not modest. My academic level is still good."
"At the same time, I am also a psychiatrist at SHIELD. This one, Iron Man, received 230 hours of treatment from me. This one, Captain America, SHIELD has scheduled 130 treatments for him, but he only came for less than half..."
"The rest..." Schiller pointed at the superheroes present and said, "You should know that being a superhero is also very stressful. They are all frequent visitors to my place."
When he said this, the faces of everyone below had changed. The psychiatrist of SHIELD was an extreme leftist, and every superhero present had received his treatment...
Is it treatment or missionary? !
But then, Schiller's words made them feel really scared.
"And my ability... Maybe you know someone whose special ability, from type to strength, is very similar to his, that is-"
"Professor X."
