Chapter 7 A Whimsical Connection
After a long conversation between the two police officers, Spencer and Garibaldi, they felt that they had a lot in common. Spencer is well aware that the main responsibility of Interpol in Europe is to combat transnational crimes, organized crimes and other criminal activities. And the place where these criminal activities are most rampant is Italy, so listening to the opinions of police officer Garibaldi is very helpful to solve the case.
"Officer Spencer, are you interested in going around the street with me at night? I have something I want you to see for yourself!" Garibaldi asked suddenly before going out.
"If it doesn't bother me, I'd love to!" Spencer replied.
...
Just after nine o'clock at night, Garibaldi arrived at the hotel in a gray private car to pick Spencer out. Spencer was waiting at the door in advance, and Garibaldi saw Spencer at a glance while driving the car.
"Where are we going?" Spencer asked as he got into the car.
"Go and see the business of those Eastern Europeans!" Garibaldi replied bluntly.
Garibaldi drove the car out of the hotel very quickly. There were very few cars on the streets of Naples at night, but he didn't know where Garibaldi was going. When he was about to arrive, there were actually more cars stand up. Soon a scene of feasting and feasting made Spencer see some ways.
Spencer couldn't help thinking that this place looked like a red-light district, what the hell was this Garibaldi doing?
The car slowed down after entering a narrow street. There are neon lights all around, and women in coquettish dresses. Garibaldi's car had just parked, and soon a woman leaned on the window and asked, "Brothers, do you want some service?"
"Service, how much?" Garibaldi asked with ease.
"2,000 lire!" The woman said as she unbuttoned her blouse, exposing all her breasts.
This move shocked Spencer, who was not prepared.
"It's too expensive, let's forget it! By the way, are there any cigarettes of this brand?" Garibaldi said, and took out a note from his pocket, on which was written the name of the Cuban cigarettes that Interpol found in France. The name, because it is Spanish, Garibaldi is not quite sure how to pronounce it.
"How much do you want? This brand is about one dollar!" The woman took out this brand of cigarettes from the small bag she carried with her. The cigarettes are packaged one by one, but the packaging is very rough, and it is not a formal packaging at first glance.
Garibaldi took the cigarette, and after dismissing the woman, handed Spencer a cigarette and said to him, "See!"
"See what?" Spencer asked a little confused.
"The woman just now, don't you see that she doesn't look like an Italian?" Garibaldi reminded.
"You mean..." Spencer readily understood.
"Yes, the woman just now should have come from the east. You must know that the local sex industry is controlled by the mafia. Without the permission of the mafia, it is impossible for these women to work here!" Garibaldi lit the cigarette, took a sip, looked at the cigarette, and nodded continuously. This thing is really worth the money.
"Is this the Eastern European gang you're talking about? They're protecting these jerks?" Spencer continued.
"No, a large part of these women were smuggled from Hungary. But look at these cigarettes, you can only buy them here easily. These women standing on the street are like mobile retail stores, tobacco, alcohol, prohibited Medicines can be bought from them. Without the permission of the mafia, they would never dare to do it. And you see, there are some gangsters on the street to maintain order here. That is, these women The arrival of the Mafia did not reduce the income of the mafia." Garibaldi continued to analyze.
"You mean that the Mafia colluded with the gangs on the other side of the Iron Curtain, and trafficked women from Eastern Europe to work in the sex industry here?" Spencer realized in surprise.
"Our government is still fighting against the east, but our gang has long joined hands with the enemy!" Garibaldi said coldly.
The two sat in the car, watching the crowd outside. Each fell into deep thought. Although Interpol, represented by Spencer, linked the Toulouse case to a criminal organization. But I never thought that there would be such a complicated background.
"Officer Garibaldi, if it were you, how would you continue the investigation?" Spencer now understands that the aloof Interpol doesn't know what the real crime situation is like. Unlike Garibaldi, he is very familiar with everything here. He noticed early that some criminal organizations from Eastern European countries began to infiltrate the West. Due to the existence of the Iron Curtain, the European judiciary has no way to jointly combat these criminal activities. These countries at the forefront of the Iron Curtain have become a breeding ground for criminals to parasitize. Relying on the power of Interpol alone cannot catch the real culprit.
"Hey! Have you ever thought about who will benefit the most when these experts die?" Garibaldi finished smoking a cigarette, threw the cigarette butt out of the car window, and asked casually.
When Spencer heard this, he looked at Garibaldi, what was he going to say? The idea was immediately dismissed. However, he still replied to Garibaldi: "These scientists are the best communication science experts in Europe. They are developing a communication standard in France. Sorry, I don't know much about what they are studying. But It is said that similar companies in the United States are also researching this technology. I think it is unlikely to be them!"
"Then what motive do you think the gangsters have to kill these communication scientists with such great fanfare? What good does it do them?" Garibaldi asked back.
"Well, we haven't come to any conclusions. I don't know why the Mafia would do this!" Spencer said.
"Although it's weird, I can't figure out why a gang would do something that has nothing to do with me.
And the risk is still so great, unless there is any interest relationship between these two organizations! "Garibaldi looked at Spencer and analyzed a little bit.
"No! No! No! This is simply too ridiculous. An American high-tech company is involved with the mafia? Is this simply whimsical?" Spencer immediately subconsciously denied, but although he felt that Garibaldi was a little whimsical , but I have to admit in my heart that this can indeed explain a lot of things that don't make sense.
"Let me just say that if you spend such a huge price to do such a cruel thing, if there is no great benefit in the future, I will not believe it if you are killed!" Garibaldi said firmly.
